  • The first Wedneday of October each year is Worldwide Cerebral Palsy Day. So this week's video is all about cerebral palsy: what is it, how does it affect Alicia, and what we'd love to change about society's perceptions of people with CP. We hope this provides some of the answers to all the questions that people are too afraid to ask. Remember that it's not what's on the outside that counts, and never judge a book by it's cover :)

    I feel such an incredible amount of respect for Alicia as someone who lives and struggles with this every single day, yet is still living her life as best she can, just like everyone else is trying to do. Nothing the rest of us go through in our day-to-day lives even compares to what she has to overcome every hour she's awake. These people with CP deserve to be respected, learned from, and treated as intellectuals in their own right. Seeing videos like this inspires me want to help other people like her that deserve it. How can you feel anything other than respect and admiration for the lives that CP folks lead? It's just sheer willpower... the kind that most of the rest of us will never understand. Very best wishes to you, Alicia.

    I give you both my first subscribe ever. I start to work as personal assistant in Sweden for 11years ago. To a guy with Cerebral Palsy. When I arrived for my interview, I had really no track of cerberal palsy. Searched the job most of the light is interesting. But the end I had tears of joy. Because I just thought he was so damn strong and lovely. I get the job and stay for 20 mouth then I quit and get a other work. Because i didn't get enough hours in a mouth. It didn't feel so good. But we did always have a little contact me and my friend. 5 year after i quit I was on his 18 birthday and when i quit high school. I take him out on his first bar round. Really love this kid or should I say man because now hi is 23. And now after nine years Im so happy to be his personal assistant again. And this time for stay.
    Lovely video I feel your both lovely energy and happiness.

    I've spastic cerebral palsy from my birth. This is a motivational video . How her conversation is understood , how her feelings are kept in the depth of heart. All this is due to wonderful hearts. I want to join this community. I'm in New York city. Please tell me anybody to meet the holy environment . Good luck , keep going on. Thank you very much for posting this video.

    What an inspirational story!!! and a very positive attitude from this young lady. God Bless her for having the courage to educate people about CP. I have it also. Fortunately, it didn't affect my speech.

    I volunteer at the CP center where I'm from and I can say that my experience there has been a great one. I would be lying if I didn't say that I was quite intimidated on my first day because I had no idea what CP was at the time, but once I got to know the staff and the residence there, I now understand it and I really enjoy my time there. When I walk in the door, I am greeted by so many of my friends there and I'm always looking forward to the days I can go and hang out with them. One major thing I learned working with people at the CP center is that people with CP don't have disabilities, but rather different abilities. :) Great work guys. Glad I ran into this video.

      Yes that is so true what you said about different abilities :) I had never even heard of CP before I met Alicia, and learning about it and getting to know Alicia has really widened my eyes into this whole new world and has given me a new appreciation for people with disabilities and made me realise that we aren't all as different as I once thought. Thank you so much for your comment! And I'm sure you do great work at the centre. - Leah

    Hi Alicia this was hilarious 😂 I’m a full time powerchair user and can relate to these questions. I hate it when people end a sentence with “awwww” and when they tell me “it must be nice to be out and about”. What a stupid thing to say! X

    Hello , I'm german but I hope you can understand my English😉 I think everyone around the world should have respect for you because you have more barriers in your life than a "normal" person. The communication seems to be very different. Are there people who can't understand your illness and think that you are "crazy in the head"? I have respect for you. I would be happy if you will answer me.

      Hello! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Yes there are people every day who don't understand that Alicia's CP doesn't affect her cognitively, we hope that the more people see our videos, the more people will learn that Alicia is very capable indeed! :) :) Did you know that yesterday was worldwide cerebral palsy day?

    • @tinak128
      @tinak128 8 лет назад

      Yes, I knew that because my cousin has cerebral palsy, too. But his cerebral palsy is not so pronounced like Alicia's. We get along super. But there are people, like you have wrote, who think that the people who have cerebral palsy are "crazy in the head". But this isn't true. Everyone around the world could have cerebral palsy but there are people who can't understand it and there are some people who laugh about cerebral palsy. This isn't ok. But I think there are people in each country (here in Germany like in the region where you live and so on...), aren't they? You can laugh with the person with cerebral palsy about anything but not about this person. You are so wonderful that you want to show the people around the world what cerebral palsy is ...👍 Thanks a lot😃 Hope that everyone understand that cerebral palsy is not that the persons are "crazy in the head" but there are constrained movements... (hopefully you can understand my english which is probably half german😜If you don't understand anything, write it, please because here in Germany you don't speak english very often than in school and I'm still in school). I would be happy if you'll answer me, thanks☺

    ok. this is the best one yet, that i have seen! You both say such critically importante things in this one, that so aptly get to the very crux of the realities of perception, and attitude. i think it's really hard for many people to get past reactionnes- and get outside Their comfort zone (and thus be able to learn and grow), and i think it's pretty indisputable that not pushing past self-limitations, and thus not propelling oneself toward ever excelling capability to learn and grow- is a really sad thing, ultimately.
    we can ALL grow!!!!! (that was like a battle cry) :)))

      +kibbalis it's so true what you say 'we don't know because we don't understand'. It wasn't until I met Alicia that I learnt how alike it was possible for us to be, I had no idea!! That's the whole idea behind our channel, just to get the word out and prove people's perceptions wrong! Thanks for your comment :) - Leah
