Band Info:
Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1979 in Richmond, California. They have gone through numerous lineup changes, two extended hiatuses, and the deaths of two former band members. Their current lineup consists of guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson, drummer Tom Hunting, and lead vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza. Hunting is one of the original members, and departed from Exodus twice, in 1989 and 2004, but rejoined in 2007. Holt joined the band about two years after its formation, and is the only member of Exodus to appear on all their releases.
Since its formation, Exodus has released ten studio albums, two live albums, one compilation album, and a re-recording of their first album. Along with Metallica (whose longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett was an original member of Exodus), they are often credited as pioneers of the Bay Area thrash metal scene, and have sold over five million albums worldwide. Exodus is also considered to be as one the "big eight" of thrash metal, along with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill and Death Angel. The band had particular success in the mid-to-late 1980s with their first three studio albums: Bonded by Blood (1985), Pleasures of the Flesh (1987) and Fabulous Disaster (1989). The critical praise given to Fabulous Disaster garnered attention from major labels, including Capitol Records, with whom Exodus signed in 1989. The band released two more studio albums (Impact Is Imminent in 1990 and Force of Habit in 1992) before disbanding in 1994. After temporarily reuniting in 1997-1998, Exodus reformed once again in 2001, and since then, they have released five more studio albums, the most recent being Blood In, Blood Out (2014). The band is currently writing a follow-up album, tentatively due for release in 2020.
Album Info:
Let There Be Blood is a studio album with re-recorded songs of Exodus's 1985 Bonded by Blood, featuring their lineup at the time. The only band members who play on both Bonded by Blood and Let There Be Blood are guitarist Gary Holt and drummer Tom Hunting. The track "Hell's Breath" originally appears on the "1983 Rehearsal" with Kirk Hammett and never was recorded officially. Let there be Blood is a much maligned effort from Exodus, and with good reason. It is a re-recording of their seminal and beloved debut album Bonded by Blood, as the cover art and title suggest. It is by no means their worst release on a musical level, but that doesn't take too much effort as the hard work has already been done and a lot of Exodus' latter day output is terrible. It is also one of the more redundant and pointless examples of re-recording old songs. It isn't as thoroughly useless as Testament's First Strike Still Deadly as the entire thing features a new vocalist, and it does turn out a lot better musically than Anthrax's The Greater of Two Evils as the band stick much closer to the originals here. Nevertheless, this is rather skip-worthy whether or not you're familiar with the original album.

Dukes was the best singer who played with Exodus, simply.
He was!
Not
Confirm
Interesting opinion, but I say it was Baloff.
Dukes and Baloff
I love the original Blonded by Blood. But this 2008 version is just AWESOME!
I agree with you my friend
They can make 100 versions of bonded by blood but it will always be good as long as its exodus
"blonded"
lol
I've never been an exodus fan, but having listened to the original and then this one, Dukes crushes this. It's not even close imo
I used to think this re-recording was unnecessary, but in retrospect, Dukes' performance justifies its existence.
Dukes-era Exodus was absolutely amazing.
I prefer Baloff to Dukes, but he def put in a killer effort here. It's not just his performance though, EVERYTHING is heavier. Plus you have Gibson and Altus on bass and guitars, who IMO are better musicians than McKillop and Hunolt, It's a crusher, and a worthy tribute to the original, and to Paul, which was the point.
@@Matihood1 Fuck yeah, one of the top 5 shows of my life was Kreator/Exodus/Krisiun (i think)/Belphegor/Warbringer in '09. Saw them another time after that, but that '09 show will always stick with me. Pure chaos.
My humble opinion. Rob Dukes, the best.
Much better than the original! Heavier, thicker, in-the-face! P.S. Yep, I never liked Zetro's vocals...
En el original no canta zetro
Way better than the original. WAY. Rob Dukes slays.
Y ut a todos lados, y que yy Uyuni y tut que y que, y que no te
I'll always prefer the original, but dude, the re-recording is absolutely awesome as well!
I bought the vynil when i was 14 and it's been huge discovery for me after Maiden, Metallica and others. I immediatly loved this album and his incredible energy. I didn' really follow the band the band after but had an ear of their evolution and line up change too much for me. Dukes is clearly one of best thing happened to Exodus. Listening this version today, i am 51, is apreciated, i love this loud version of the album. Songs are so good, not aged at all ! Trash is alive !
Seriously love this album; love the original too, but man Dukes just had a certain edge that pushed Exodus to new ground.
You either love Rob Dukes' vocals or love Paul Baloff's vocals, there doesn't seem to be much in between. I can't stand Baloff's vocals, so discovering this exists is awesome for me. Rob Dukes is the best Exodus vocalist \m/
I feel the same about Baloff
I love this rerecording honestly! I am OLD, grew up with the original. This does NOT invalidate the original, it does pack serious punch and it is AWESOME!
I love both versions of this album. But this version of strike of the beast is some of the heaviest thrash I've ever heard. It's giving me dark angel and demolition hammer heaviness vibes.
That opening riff is such a fucking monster, always loved it!
Genuinely better than the original. A shame I never got to see Exodus with Rob Dukes live...
The only problem with the rerecording is a small one. Slowing down some parts of the songs. Other than that, fucking amazing
Bonded by Blood is an album which after almost 40 years ain't got older by one single day. LTBB is the proof of that!
Hunting, Holt, Dukes, what a fucking dream team, I wanna them always on my side.
I like how "And Then There Were None" sounds so heavy with this tone, in the orignal sounds good but I like this one more 🔥
This is a really good band
The modern production really shows how good this album was even though it sounds nothing like the original
Rick Hunolt once said the re-recording of Bonded By Blood was a complete waste of time. I highly disagree. Altough the sound of the original release was a bit more dynamic, I'm happy I'm finally able to listen to my favorite band's debut album and enjoy it. With all due respect to the dead and may he rest in peace, but I just can't stand Paul Baloffs voice.
Baloff is mid at best ngl, imo.
Hunolt is jealous and Dukes is the best Exodus vocalist
Spitting factos
the opening riff to bonded by blood is like artillery shots
this sounds amazing. way better soudn than the og even though i wouldve preferred his vocals
The original was recorded 40 years ago. Can't compare the conditions... but... after all... The Original it's Much Better. I'm old and I can remember those days like yesterday. First of all... don't have facebook to speak about this... You need to speak with your friends in the streets... much better... But this version just love it to
look, this sounds great. But as an old fart fan, I love that rawness of the original. I will grow to love this remake, but in a different way.
Sorry, guys, I am 57 years old, I know these times very well❤ nevertheless Gary´s Intention is true, this could not reach the power, intense, insane and crazyness of the original. R.I.P. Paul Balloff
R.I.P. Paul "The Most Overrated Vocalist" Baloff
The legend.
perfect!!!
this version makes some of the songs WAY heavier and better, like And Then There Were None, but some like Metal Command remain cooler in the original version.
New Classic!!
Dukes fucking rules!!!❤️🔥🦾
Aguante Exodus la puta madre!
Saludos desde Monte Grande, Buenos Aires!
💙💛💙💛💙
Bonded by fucking blood!
WHOA!!!
I prefer the original but this was pretty damn good 👍🏿
Exodus from this álbum is a way better and heavier version compared to the original one
It is not. Only have a "more modern" production which is expected.
@@Bob_Winnerstop crying, this is way heavier, kickass, and vicious than the awful Ballof wankery
I genuinely don't understand how the fuck people can compare this to bonded man. Baloff put a special energy into it. I wish they would have at the very least gotten finished with pleasures before they cut him loose. Dude was a fuckin madman on vocals and probably the best thrash front man this world's known. I wish I could have been around to see that.
I completely agree! There is no one who can compare to Bayloff’s vocals! Bonded By Blood was epic and it can never be re-done without him.
Although I agree with you when it comes down to how much better is the original version of this album , I take a different approach with how "awesome " Ballof was; I saw them live in 84 and I must say that he didn't impressed me at all. He was kinda bad to say the least.
@@martinberthiaume4971 well, I wasn't around that time to see it, I've only really seen the live shows here so I'll have to take your word on that one. Still like his vocals more than any other thrash frontman.
Baloff was not good at all, his death has made people immortalize him and while his energy was good as a vocalist he was one of the worst in thrash metal history.
Am I the only who thinks baloff was meh? Souza was the best to me by far
Wish they had waited a few years so they could have had Zetro
Watch Zetro's Toxic Vault on his channel where he speaks with Rob Dukes about this album, actually goes into some detail about how it initially would have been Zetro recording vocals
@@tubeoftheviper7779 been watching that Wäcken 2008 show again and starting to appreciate Dukes more
@@tubeoftheviper7779 Baloff was good for the time but he wouldn't have lasted as a vocalist through the years even had he lived. Dukes is a great vocalist but I really don't like that much scream in thrash metal. But it did fit Exodus' new sound with their more recent (last 15 years) albums
like the original recordings way more
What tuning is this album specifically? I am currently learning "And Then There Were None" on bass. I know this version is a tad bit longer than the original one from 1985. If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you
D standard buddy!! have fun with it :P
The original I think was E flat or E this sounds a bit deeper
Original IS Standard, Let There Be Blood, One Step Down, DGCFAD
@@slaygadethicide Original from what I've seen is an 8th below E standard.
Believe it or not, Travis Scott brought me here.
why Hell's Breath with [*]?
This song appeared in the first demos, but it was never officially recorded and it never appeared on any album. So as a bonus track, they put it
❤🤘🏼🇧🇷
Bonded by Blood album is way better \m/
fudido demais!
ugh
Well, it's good they pay tribute to their first singer with this record, but can't be compared with the original one: sounds dirty, savage and fresh... this one is too clean, sounds like a band of good musicians making a cover...
Correct.
This is way better than the original, no doubt. The nostalgia factor always does his job with the original.
ALLAH EXODUS
Oh man this ain't it at all fellas. This cannot compare to the original.
Yeah, because it's way better💪
@@trockenerworkaholic6507 definitely not
It's superior in every way.
@@Orchestruction not even a little bit
I like Baloff's version better, too.
Disgraceful album
FInally some one actually normal with functioning ears found in this truly degenerate comment section.
And you live in disgrace, pal
first time giving a go to exodus
What did you think? ☺️
