As a Steelers fan this is mind boggling…why you wouldn’t go after a potential star with a much higher ceiling like Justin Fields, or a proven veteran like Russ…running it back with mason rudolph and Kenny Pickett over those two. Steelers are wasting the primes of their elite defense with mediocre qb play. I’m ready to throw in the towel for this season already if we are running it back🤦🏽♂️

It’s not the fan base that won’t move from the Steeler way, it’s the management.
Tomlin is risk adverse and Pickett does what he want, do not make mistakes and do not turn the ball over. You cannot penalize a guy who does what the head coach wants, and the steelers know it. Tomlin does not want a good QB that throws the ball around, because the nature of doing that is the guy will turn the ball over sometimes and he hates that.
So basically take 0 risks and stay 9-8 first round playoff exits every year instead of take some risks, risk going 6-11 but with the potential to make a playoff run. Tomlin needs to reassess

the issue isnt pickett vs division teams, those are always close games, its we are a first round exit vs Mahomes, Allen, etc.

As a ravens fan, Justin Fields to the Steelers terrifies me.
Why??? He doesnt do anything. he cant even pass for 3000 yards or 20 tds in a era where almost 3/4 of the starters do. Hes a good runner but even those numbers were wayyy down. Hes sucks in 4th quarter even worse than he sucks the rest of the game and he kills drives. Then he has to play Browns, Ravens D twice a year with a oline thats worse then the Bears. Im a steelers fan and if we got Fields id promise you id be terrified too....for the Steelers and Fields.

@khaliljackson2192 yeah Pickett hasn't played well but why go for a QB who's played at worse level than Mason Rudolph lol. Need I say more. Both Fields and Pickett can suck. Fields can be better than Pickett and still suck. Neither are the answer for the Steelers. Wilson is better than avg but is declining sure I get it. But for 1 yr at basically a free price it's worth it as a bridge. I think Steelers should draft someone as there's gonna be a solid QB prospect or two that will drop into rd 2 or 3 we could pick up who will prob have better overall talent than Pickett.

If you want a QB who can't see the middle of the field and can no longer run away from pass rushers, Russ is your guy.
If you were Russ, why would you play for league min, which adds nothing to your bank roll, so one team could just basically let you play for free without investing in you. If he gets hurt, then that affects his ability to get his NEXT contract

Fields. teammates can't stand Wilson and they love Fields. don't care how cheap Russ is, he'll mess up team chemistry. the ONLY thing Pickett had going for him is his teammates genuinely seemed to like him.
As a Bears fan I am completely aware of Fields shortcomings - but I'm telling you he is waiting to be unlocked. I don't know what his ceiling is, but there's a reason a giant part of the fanbase wants to keep him. I think it's best to draft Caleb, but I'll absolutely be rooting for Fields.
From what ive been hearing & reading, the steelers dont want Fields, Wilson, or Cussins or anyone else for that matter! They claim to have faith in Kenny going into the 2024 season, and probably dont want to give up on him and throw him under the bus just yet.....? We the steeler fans are not happy with this decision that was made! So who will they bring in then for QB competition for pickett ? He cannot be the starter come football season.
If they run it back you can wave goodbye to a lot of your best players in 2026 because Rudolph and Pickens just are not good enough

If their goal is to be average (and that may be their goal), they can do that with a QB they have. Fields is certainly a risk, but also has a higher ceiling than any of the QBs mentioned... and could be a long term answer at QB.
Russ over Justin, but only because of leadership he could/would bring. Of course he'd need to win over the locker room. Leadership& confidence from a vet was why Mason had games he had last year.
How about both? And do it for $1.2mil and a conditional 6th round next year.
The Bears can:
1. trade back from 1 to 2.
2. trade back from 2 to 3.
What's the haul at this stage? Probably three firsts and three seconds, plus change.
We hold Carolina's second rounder next year and would have two extra firsts from these trades to put with our own next year.
With the extra second rounders acquired from this year's trades .. we're looking at a bumper crop of picks next year, including three first rounders and four second rounders!

4. Trade down from 9, drafting JPJ and Michale Penix Jr.

If I'm the Steelers I sign Russell Wilson for the league minimum (knowing I'm cutting him after a year) and then look to draft Bo Nix if he's available in the draft. There's your competition for 2025.

Here’s the bottom line for me: Joe Flacco got off the couch and played far better than Pickett. Who’s to say the same about Big Ben. Yes! He would beat Pickett out of the job in 2024. That being said, Kenny has to go. Fields or Wilson, both are better options than Pickett by far.

RW is rumored to be a leader in the dressing room. IF this is true, bring him! KP8 will learn from a veteran leader, MR will also contribute. There is your three. Make it a competition and should MR or RW be QB1 over KP8, then at least KP8 will learn from osmosis. He'll see what a veteran leader is. MR had a bit of BR for what... 4 years. Another vet would also expand on MR experience. There is your three for QB... make it a competition.
Wilson wants to start. He only has a few years left. That is why he wont come to Pittsburgh, he does not want to be a back up.

I've said it before...but here's the same slightly differently...
The Steeler's have participated in a Super Bowl, at least once, in every decade since the 70's with the exception of the 80's. They have had 3 HC's during that time and earned 6 Lombardi Trophies. You don't have that level of success without knowing how to adapt to changes in the game decade to decade, nor will you continue that success by falling victim to FOMO or following the new "Fad" other cookie cutter teams follow.
Taking chances once in a great while is valuable...taking chances every off-season is foolish. They know what they're doing.

When Wilson was let go by Seattle, what did he do in Denver? He didn't really start balling until he heard through the grapevine that he might not fit in Payton's plans for the future. Even then, the fire only lasted long enough to get them back to .500, then fizzled out again. My preference would be Fields, but SI is reporting the Steelers aren't trying to get anyone and figure to stick with Pickett and Rudolph. Not happy.

They will give Kenny another chance, as much as I don’t like it… Mike tomlin has had enough “high character” team members that I don’t doubt he could square Russell up if that was the issue in Denver. Russell makes sense from a maturity level, leadership from an offensive level which the Steelers don’t have and he is a winning qb who in the right system and players is a playoff caliber qb. Idk why you don’t go get him and let him excel as he did in a run heavy, deep passing offense like he had with the hawks.
Their best option is Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph. Steeler are paying those two nothing compared Fields. If they could fit Russ in their salary cap ($10 million max) then I say go for it, but I have a feeling Russ could get more elsewhere. Rich throwing out Ryan Tannehill's name is laughable.

Steelers are giving Pickett the chance to prove himself his third season. Please stop with the Wilson/Fields rumors because neither are going to happen. They are going to bring Mason back to compete with Pickett for the starting QB or Tannehill, who Rich Eisen just laid out is Arthur Smith’s former QB when he was with the Titans to assist Pickett learning the new offense. I do see them maybe drafting a QB late in the draft in case Pickett does not work out and see if they can show you anything. Maybe a guy like Penix Jr., Bo Nix, Sam Hartman etc. super seniors coming out of college.

Russ being cheap because of the first 39mil being paid by Denver is a fallacy. He'll only join a team ready to commit over a multi-year, 40+ contract. A young, hungry, and vastly more athletic QB like Fields will be far easier to develop and far more productive with an OC like Arthur Smith than an aging diva who couldn't get it done under Sean Payton.

Wilson can give us a couple of years to find a true #1 QB. Fields has potential but is a turnover machine with nearly 70 int/fumbles in 40 games. You can blame the horrible system he was in but Kenny (who I am also not sold on) was in a horrible system as well but he was at least able to protect the ball. Bring Russ in for the next 2-3 years as we find our franchise QB.

The Steeler Way is to go 9-8 or 10-7, back into the playoffs (with a bunch of help), and get annihilated in WC round...Tomlin and this old defensive style of barely throw the ball and hope your defense never gives up more than 13 points is so outdated its ridiculous. Fields sucks. The bears had a great defense and a great WR and decent running game and they still sucked with Fields. He can't read defenses and that will stop him from ever being successful in the NFL. Realistically the Bears needed just average QB play this year to be somewhat competitive, and they didn't get it. Fields is a great athlete but there is a mental part to playing QB as well and Fields doesn't have what it takes. That's all there is to it. Wilson is better. Honestly Pickett and Rudolph are probably better too. Just because Fields is available doesn't magically make him a great QB. He has sucked all throughout his career, with the occasional incredible play. Nothing suggests that that's changed.
