  • Gday, This was a quick one day build, i'm not sure what there going to be used on but I suspect its a vintage engine of some description,
    I had a visit from Cliff Shipton who i've know for many years but didn't know he was a photographer, the quality for Cliffs work is amazing, The Far South Coast is a beautiful part of the world and Cliff is proving that, the calendar is just a small snippet of the quality of work he does, Cliff has started a RUclips channel and I highly recommend you having look if your interested in seeing another part of the world, Also check out Cliffs website, Instagram, and Facebook, send Cliff an email if your interested in a calendar, links are below,
    Thanks for watching, Cheers

    If it's a standard thread then a quick way to do this is to use some grub screws. You can turn down one end to a point and harden them. You can also turn one down to make a little socket and use a bit of an old allen key to make the hex tool. I have a video on my channel showing the whole process.

    Many threads out there so I purchase all thread rod (when available) with the thread I need to transfer, lock two or three nuts together on the all thread so it fits my three jaw chuck then drill tap and cut off a threaded bushing for my standard set which is either 3/8-16 or 1/2-13. I use a hack saw to slot the end so I can hold the bushing with a flat screwdriver if it turns when it shouldn't. Your craftsmanship is incredibly.

    Matty I have a full set of those, and they are a must for serious hobbyist. I actually drilled and tapped the end of a 3-foot-long piece of 3/4" round shaft and used it as a transfer punch to mark the center of a half nut I machined for my lathe. I also made one from 1/2" rod for an 18" long transfer punch to mark the center of a cross slide nut for my Clausing Model 100 lathe. When rebuilding Vintage machine tools, it is a must to be able to make your own replacement parts. Great video and superior workmanship. Thanks as always for bringing us along.

I use C,W,or T for roughing and anything slender, thin or has a tendency to vibrate or deflect i go for the DNMG

      Gday Robert, If you had to pay a machine shop to make these it would be a different story, This was all made out of scrap material and I don't charge, If I make something for someone I just get them to buy the material, Thanks for watching, Cheers

    Hi Matty, a great build as always. Will you use a coating on the body to prevent rusting, or just keep it oiled?
    Looks like some nice places around the area you live.
    We wish you and the family a Merry Christmas.

      Gday, Im looking into zinc plating, I really don't have rust issues here which is strange considering I live right next to the ocean, we really are in a beautiful part of the world, Merry Christmas from all us here to mate, Cheers

      @@MattysWorkshop cheers. I assume it's some kind of soft rubbery abrasive block. I didnt know if ive ever seen one, wouldn't mind one for my lathe.

    What are transfer screws ? I have no idea…

    • @MattysWorkshop
      @MattysWorkshop  Год назад +1

      Gday, transfer screws allow you to transfer the centre of the threaded hole onto another piece of material, you screw the inserts into the threaded hole until the point is just protruding, lay the material on top and tap it with a hammer and this will leave a centre punch mark showing the centre of the hole, I hope I explained this ok, Cheers

      @@MattysWorkshop thanks Matty, sort of explains it, but I’ll need to research some examples and why you would need to do this… apologies, I’m a novice at all this…
