- Worked on this ages ago but just never got round to editing and publishing. I've often been asked about the whole left my job to work for myself thing and wanted to discuss it from more than one point of view so I asked the very talented Rebecca Nanjego to join me on this one

“I could breathe” I could breathe” I know that feeling. Where you’re working and working and you keep telling yourself it’s the only thing you can do. You don’t even allow yourself to think that there’s an alternative. I’m sure if you had been told that oh you could leave this job and go be yourself you would think that person was mad. I envy you ladies. I can’t wait for this freedom

Asking yourself what you have done in the past 5 or 2 or even 1 year makes one feel so inadequate. My God. It’s so good to see us talking about this. I’ve seen it turn into 6 years yet I had told myself 3
Whew. Sis. Time can really creep up on you. You blink an wonder where it all went. It's a reminder to us all to set goals and go through with them.

Time really does pass by quickly and having nothing to show for it is frustrating.
I concur with you, financial planning is pivotal for transitioning into self employment.
Time can really fly by. We have to be so intentional about things so we can account for it and just be happier with our choices
Loved Loved the conversation!!!!! I agree, money / savings / financial planning (or awareness) could arguably be the most important advise to put into consideration before transitioning to self employment.
Without a doubt. These waters are murky so having money saved up is such an important thing
This comes when am thinking about my business and transitioning, I love it 😍
I have been in this for six years but being a house wife n getting married Young
Everything changed with age in 2019 that's when I got serious with my routines n creating my own work for money
2020was life changing in lockdown n now am that crazy work holic at home still on my financial management journey
But self employment is everything
But money management n creating productive routines is key in this ship , balance chill time n work time as good as you can
All I can add to this is a .periodt

First of all its no secret i love u both,your journeys in one way or another have an influence in my life.
This was an amazing conversation,i dunno how many times i kept saying i can relate with that or this from what each of u had to say but this has reminded me to be grateful for the support system i have and created more silver linings that despite highs and lows(especially the lows) there is a point we get to stability if we push ourselves,learn from our mistakes and use our God given sprinkles of magic🧡

Great conversation ladies enjoyed this one. Quitting to pursue self employment is certainly scary. I went from getting salary to paying salary to my employees and getting nothing for myself. There is a trauma there that needs a conversation of it's own.(lol) but we shall overcome. The freedom though is certainly worth it. I could never turn back no matter how much i have been tempted to.
You have touched an important point there. That's a discussion we should definitely have. I have no doubt many business owners can relate to that

Lol... not me watching this after being given an ultimatum by my supervisor to ditch my creative work and stop being "distracted" and focus on the 9 to 5pm. Proceeds to draft resignation because the 9 to 5 math is not mathing! Haha... glad I landed on this video instead of going down the whole of gaslighting myself.

And the way that ka formula of "since you like "reading + writing that means you will become a lawyer" is problematic is the fact that it never accounts for things being seasonal. It locks you into thinking that's the ka only pathway you can work towards and even ignoring so many other cues that could have been potential career options. It's so bad and we should do better to think about how else to mentor and encourage young people to harness many other skills like critical thinking that become critical to navigating and interrogating those bu areas of interest along the way. Thanks for the ka discussion by the way :)
Totally agree. We need to throw all those bu 'formulas' away 🚮 and make room for more wholesome career choices that actually fit
