there's quite a few tutorial renditions of this track and this is one of the best. Only problem I found is either the guitar is slightly tuned out of key or the capo or its placement has skewed the fret pitching the sound higher. Apart from that I love the intro, another johnny marr gem...

Which tele squier do u have, The affinity series or classic vibe? I have the classic vibe, which is a step up from the affinity, so it could be that. Otherwise, the secret sauce is in the pedals, mainly my vox delaylab pedal, with a little tube screamer to make tone a little clanky (like in live recordings) and some compression. Also recorded guitar coming out amp rather than plugging in. Ofc its also key to finger chords smoothly with left hand, make sure all the strings resonate as best as possible. @@nicholaskguitar I have the affinity series, and just a distortion pedal and a a delay one, but it does not sound bad, i used to play acoustic, so im kinda struggling to have a good tone. but thanks for the tips
Eyyy Chirimoya! My main pedal i am using is my vox delaylab. Its a multi purpose FX pedal that can make all sorts of cool sounds like delay, chorus, vibrato, reverb, etc, so i am using a custom setting on that. A chorus pedal could prob get you there too. Also just some compression and a little tube screamer. Hope that helps!
Hmm, that's a good question. The strumming pattern was not something I really thought about and I did what felt natural. i would keep playing around w it and see what feels right for you. Generally speaking, its good to strum down on down beats and up on the up beats. You could marked up the tab on the corresponding beats as a rough guide to follow. Is this a helpful answer? If not maybe if you could tell me more about the issue and I will see what i can do!
Can someone explain the tuning? I’m in standard tuning and put the capo on the 2nd fret so it would technically it would be in F# Major but I see it’s written out in E Major. Do we tune to D standard over all then put the capo on the 2nd to act like it’s in E? First time trying some Johnny Marr and I know he does stuff like this but just wanted to check in lol
Nope, when playing with a capo all the chord names and notations are written as if the capo was the open strings, so what an F#maj7 would be without a capo if you played the same voicing with a capo on the second fret it would now be written as an Emaj7 (Even though the notes are those of an F#maj7 chord. A better way to put it is to imagine the capo is the open strings and that every fret now changes number depending on where the capo is and the names also change to the corresponding fret numbers (even if the notes aren't correct for the chord name)
Its in tune, with but unfortunately to the wrong frequency :(. But the intro sounds especially off because i don't have a tremelo bar like Marr uses. I definitely plan to do replay it, but tuned to 432hz
Do you mean that about the whole song? I know the intro sounds rough because i don't have a whammy bar and Marr is using one. Either way, it pains me that I didn't catch it and i am sorry to have caused you pain. I hope i can make up for it when i repost the cover with the corrections!
