As the designer, I'd say this was a very fair review. It was made, less from a competitive stand point, and more "because I wanted it to exist". On that note though, I have effectively run this at events as a sidearm, though it has often been plagued by issues of one sort or another. The only thing to note beyond what was mentioned is that the hammer is not cosmetic, but central to how the blaster operates. The hammer rotates and presses a linear pusher into the chamber, and also operates the hand that turns the cylinder. Because of that, it can also be hammer fired without using the trigger at all
@@thinredpaste that will definitely be helpful for the longcolt. The original magpie could probably use some updates, but I have no major plans for that at the moment.
I can totally see modders go to town on this and making it into a really good blaster with metal components, rev trigger, and better shooting performance. And it will totally happen because of how cool this blaster looks.

Holy moly, those micro flywheels are impressive AF, even if the blaster as a whole is an underperformer. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more drop in kits for converting spring pistols to flywheel!
As a real gun owner, I couldn't help but notice Frank's movements when handling the blaster - particularly moving from half-ready and presenting. I get the impression he shoots more than foam darts, but if not they're good habits to have! 👍
Something I noticed is that this blaster looks almost like a 1-1 replica of a Mateba Mocel 6 Unica, which if so, I have to complement the designer on. It's a pretty obscure real steel semiautomatic revolver that fires from the bottom of the cylinder instead of the top, which reduces flip up. It's one of the more obscure and complicated revolvers ever made.
Maybe make the hammer function as when the hammer cock back, the flywheel start revving and the cylinder start revolving. When the trigger press, the hammer slam the dart like a pusher and the rev stopped after the dart fling and hammer return. Other way, when the trigger squeezed, the hammer cock back, the flywheel start revving and the cylinder start revolving. When the trigger is squeezed full, it it follows the step above. Tldr: make the revolver double action to remove trigger strains.
So how it actually works is that the hammer rotates and presses on a linear pusher. So the hammer is completely functional, just not in a lock and cocked way, but double action only. He didn't really cover this, but you can also hammer fire it, which will remove that finnicky trigger pull
Dang that thing is a trip. Love the cosmetics and the removable cylinder. The single trigger activation/flywheel idea is nutty. With refinement I could see it being awesome
If I was ever a designer for 3D Printing, I definitely would make a actual Magnum Based Foam Blaster and do what I can to mimic the Magnum Pistol plus find ways to make sure to get quality plastic to print. Fun fact, if people like the snob barrel which is my personal favorite on damage, looks, and even more reasonable for darts, could add a feature to replace the barrel to technically be like a N-Strike attachment Gimmick. It definitely be something to be hammer but to make a little design like a air compressor so tiny it can be a slight different compared to a traditional magnum but be as close as possible. And the best part when reloading a magnum pistol, having the optional quick reload piece to have some darts ready. Once reloading, open the dart barrel and stick in that quick reload till you take it out and you are reloaded. A idea to make it feel you are using a magnum but it be as a foam flinging magnum pistol gun
This is pretty much my dream blaster, I’ve found out about it months ago and it’s everything I’ve wanted. I don’t play in games or mod so honestly just want a semi realistic revolver to play around with
this one definitely seems like the kind of blaster you'd moreso want to take to some sort of nerf-based LARP event instead of a performance-heavy competition, and i appreciate that greatly
What a coincidence, I've been working on a mod kit for the Longcolt Magpie variant and I think I've made a pretty practical and reliable sidearm out of it. I had all the same concerns that you voiced in this video, and I addressed all of them. I'm still doing some tweaking but I expect to release it soon. If you'd like, I can send you one for review.
I love how this thing looks. It looks like it's very inspired by the Chiappa Rhino revolver. I'd love to pick one up, since I'm more of a casual Nerfer more than a competitive one.
This would be great if you wanted something for a cosplay that also fires. I’m imagining so many Destiny cosplays you could do by repainting it. Great review
Id love to see Adventure Force do something similar, just for a more solid injection fed plastic and probably more affordable. I say AF because quality and cost beat the hell out of Nerf these days... especially cost.
I know this would be mechanically and/or electrically very complex but I have an idea: this but it features a working single/double action similar to a colt python. Manually cocking the hammer would rotate the cylinder AND start the flywheels, leaving only the injection of a dart to be done by the trigger. Other than that it would be identical. Pulling the trigger with first cocking the hammer would do the same as demonstrated
I said it before and I will keep saying it. The magpie is most definitely a SHOW PIECE. Great to look at, great to hold, great to mess around with, but when in a war when you ACTUALLY need it, 7/10 times it just will not cooperate. My magpie has all the metal bits and delrin arms from Roboman, and I still have these issues. It's possible, but it will most definitely test your patience
dear god, i just got this video recommended after not watching your content for like 6 years. Great to see you still making content and fun to see the intro is still the same
The hammer should have had a "single action" function like real revolvers. Ie: Pulling it would activate the flywheel, index the cylinder and skip the first stage of the two (three?) stage trigger.
Man it has been a *while* since I last visited this channel. Really enjoyed your stereotypes and enjoyed your reviews when I was really into nerf. Felt nostalgic and like wow, this brings me back. Thank you so much man. I'll definetly start watching again I still enjoy your content.
Because the trigger pull is heavy like 8 to 10 pounds, the purpose of that is to mimic the feel of handling a real double action revolver. Most revolvers are double action because the heavier trigger pull also doubles as a safety, to make sure the firing is always intentional on the user.
I imagine this working well in CQB with like a good stryfe as a rifle and the magpie as a cool cliche weapon. Like oh no i'm out. Switches to pistol. Also good as you dont have to prime it so it works as a good side arm
This reminds me of a thought I had a little while ago. Could you make a springer nerf gun where all you have to do is pull the trigger. Pull it half way to rotate and prime the blaster and pull it the rest the way to fire. Or you could prime the hammer which would rotate and prime the blaster, then pull the trigger the rest of the way.
Having the trigger pull prime the spring is not only mechanically difficult, but it would prevent you from using any stronger spring as that would make the trigger pull obnoxiously heavy.
do you still do combos? i'd like to see one on the infinus or version 2 of some older combos like stryfe modulus and rapidstrike but don't delete the older videos just newer ones your combos and play style might have changed.
