- Опубликовано: 19 окт 2024
- Join us for some narrowboat terror on the Tidal Thames as we head from Limehouse to Brentford! (hopefully without sinking!). In Part Two, following our outbound journey from Teddington Lock to Limehouse, we turn around and head back on the River Thames, destination the Thames Lock at Brentford, and the Grand Union Canal. With dozens of boats on the river, waves over a metre high crash over the bow of our narrowboat and cause some panic!

Hey, Shaun? Now I realise it's you that does the captions: thank you, from the bottom of my heart (as a deaf person, I'd not be able to understand anything without the captions). It truly makes a difference to people like me when there's good, reliable captions and not the youtube automatic ones. Thank you!!
Totally our pleasure, Liz. Excuse my terrible grammar and spelling though 😂
If they did RUclips Awards, you guys would win...... for so many reasons!! You’re the best!💟💟💟💟
Aww, Christine! 👍🏻💜
Agreed!!
You tube does have awards thing. You get a silver or gold I even think they have bronze Arrow buttons. I will see is I can get a photo of it from another RUclips .
@@shawnverbree8740 think it’s a silver award when you hit 100k subs and a gold when you hit 500k I think?!?
I live in las vegas and have only seen london in movies and tv. This is one of the coolest videos i have ever seen from a river perspective. AWESOME is all i can say. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
you prolly dont care at all but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Zane Zakai instablaster =)
Well it took the better part of 10 days but I've gone thru 121 episodes you Foxes Afloat. I've said it a couple of times already, once more won't hurt. Thank you both for sharing your lives with us. What you do and how you do it is truly special. In the early 90's I hitch-hiked all over the UK for just about 18 months and you have brought so many of the good memories back to me. My wife has a request. She is a big history nerd and loves your snippets of canal history. She would love if you could talk just a little about what role canals and canal travel played during WWII.
Wow! That must be one of the fastest catch-ups I've heard of. Well done. Yeah, we do talk about the war in a few episode, a couple more in the coming weeks 👍🏻
My wife and I live in New Zealand. Way back in 1978 I spent a week on the canals. Picked up our boat from the Shropy and went up into Wales on the L*********** Canal and back. Now years later I discovered you both at about vlog 4. We went to the first and caught up. Love what you do and very envious that you have been where I have been and places I didnt get to. Even though it looked very different after 40+ years I did recognise places. Colin, I must say that I think the life you are leading is doing you a world of good. Sure you still have your demons but I think your good times are more frequent and more enjoyable and the confidence you show is great. I know you can edit the bad bits out but I can see the happiness being radiated from you. Ok enough of the soppy stuff. We both love your travels and love the history lesson you give us as you travel the canals. Your travels and happiness has reached all the way to New Zealand. Thank you both for the memories and new adventures.
Thanks so much, Michael!
Another great trip, especially the “Titanic” moment of the water overwhelming the well deck and coming into the bedroom! 🤭
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was impressed that you were so calm about it, I would of been wanting to get off at that point!
Another great video again missed otis this time
I hope no flooding in Colin’s cupboard! 🤭 Great blog again... just as exciting in reverse. Those waves were a bit scary!
hopefully no harm done to the decor
Colin and Shaun, Thanks for doing the Thames, so well done and professionally produced. Pleased all went well. Cheers John.
Thanks John 👍🏻
just to say thank you so much for taking us on the trip with you two, you may not have liked it all but i am sure me and other subscribers did the comments history lessons photography laughs fantastic thank you again, take care both keep well keep safe.
Our pleasure!
Well done; that was a heroic trip. When you get back up north don't dangle anything in the Macclesfield canal - the Manchester Evening News reports that "Man hospitalised after being bitten by giant FISH with razor sharp teeth" (Sept 17th). A man tried to recover his sunglasses from the canal and was bitten on the finger by a three foot Pike. They didn't explain how he measured it with his finger hanging off!
Haha! Yeah, was reading about that 😂😂😂
"Mind the Bicyclist!", "Yes Hyacinth, minding the bicyclist." Great job, guys, wonderful show as always! The bail of straw has a historical story somewhere. Like a purple fencepost here in Texas means no trespassing. goes back to the late 1800s.
Crazy history sometimes!
You're a bright spot in an otherwise dull and dreary world. :)
Aww, thank you, Jeanette!
! "You're a Nightmare" ! LoL That is the perfect t-shirt/mug promo !
Haha! Maybe 😂
Both of you were shaken AND stirred! Going under London Bridge must be one of the best boating experiences possible!
It really is. Amazing though! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, you both know how to give us all a scare! Knowing that people will avoid doing the first stint on the Thames, you go and do it twice.....there and half back!!
I love how calm you both were, especially Sean who I think helps you Colin to manage the scare factor well. You work really well as a team. Brave doesn't begin to describe 2hat you did, but Silver Fox was also a hero, some of those washes were quite deep. However, the scenery was awesome and Tower Bridge was beautifully decorated underneath. Thanks for the ride 😎😍
Our pleasure, Caroline. Thank you! 👍🏻💜
Really enjoy your vlogs lads, if you moor up anywhere near kings Langley/ Hunton bridge on the GUC i run a pub called the unicorn 10 minutes walk from the canal, I’d love to buy you boys a couple of pints to repay you for the great viewing.
Ah, Ade, that's such a lovely offer. The bad news is that we passed through there about 5 weeks ago. The good news is that's where we start in this Friday's episode 👍🏻
Foxes Afloat I’ll look forward to Fridays episode 👍🏻
Glad you mentioned Otis!
Don't worry. Next week is pretty much the Otis Show 🐶 🥰
@@FoxesAfloat Well he is very very cute, almost as cute as you two. Good to see positive representations of the gay community.
Hi Colin & Shaun. Another enjoyable vlog. Enjoy your time off and a few cold ones. Looking forward to seeing Otis again when you set off on the next leg. Have a good week. Debbie & Patrick New Zealand
Thanks 👍
Thank you so much for doing captions. I'm hearing impaired and it really helps me to know what's going on. Your hard work in typing this all out is super appreciated, Shaun.
You’re so welcome ❤️ (Shaun xxxx)
Loved your Thames adventure, think the best bits were the ones with all the posh houses-oh how the other half live eh- probably because it seemed quite calm,I’d have been laid on the floor under a blanket with my teddy on tidal bit(not that it would have done any good 🤦🏻♀️😂) ....flipping ‘eck.... too many flying past big boats and wash for me😱,so,not surprised you’re having a rest and stacks of bacon butties, can’t wait for next instalment.Stay safe xx
Back to the calm of the canals now ☺️
5 Star and more! Again the best two videos ever, ever produced! Brilliant guys :) Take care and see you next week!
You're the best!
It's amazing you have the time and power to answer almost all comments on your channel, in contrast to so many other youtubers. Kudos for that guys.
If you take the time to comment it's only right we read and reply to you 👍🏻💜
115 degrees F (46 C) in Arizona, now that's 'Scorchio". Loved that series.
BTW. Didn’t want to concern you before you’d made your exit from the Thames, but . . .
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to ride on a Thames River Police launch on the Thames, near the Houses of Parliament, and the skipper demonstrated the deadliness of the back current on full tide.
He did this by driving the bow of the launch into and touching one of the central bridge piers, facing against the tide, and turned the engine off, and we didn’t move, being forced into the pier by the swirling water. He hastened to point out that if we should capsize, don’t worry about swimming as the tide would drag us under anyway!
Sweet dreams!
Haha! All good in the end
Gosh, that was beautiful. I am not likely to ever come to London because of covid, cost, my age and the distance (New Zealand) so I am sightseeing through your eyes, and you film everything so beautifully. Thank you.
Maybe one day!
Great video boys. You were very brave to navigate the Thames as it can be quite choppy at times. Silver Fox did you proud and what a star you are Shaun at the helm no matter what. Look forward to next week. Enjoy you few days off you have earned them. Take care as always and Lots of Love xxx
Thanks, Virginia! 👍🏻
Thanks for taking me on your sojourn on the Thames. Was not always kind to you but you recovered well. Kudos guys, looking forward to Otis' return, too.
Our pleasure!
Hi from Australia. I recently told my Mum about your channel (a 10 pound pom from back in the day) and she has watched the series through at least twice. Oh, she is a new subscriber and thoroughly loves your channel too. I was lucky enough due to CV19 restrictions able to watch this episode with her. Thanks for what you both do.
That is awesome! Thanks so much and sending love to your mum!
Love your interaction with us all, I feel I’m on board with you, you both are delightful, and happy, thanks guys you both make it so real, 👍👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much!
secret border crossings hidden . . look up Active Patriot uk !! Protect our future . .
The oddly shaped boat that you pass on 11:48 minutes USED to be the transport barge that belonged to friends of ours! It was converted into the bizarre shape it has now by a London artist, but it sailed the French canals and rivers before that, much in the way you're sailing the British canals and rivers, only with cargo instead of cameras. Great Video (but what a pity you didn't go straight on at Limehouse, the first time! :-))
Thanks! We couldn't go straight on. We have a tight schedule now to beat some planned stoppages or get trapped on the wrong side 😬
Anybody else & I would have said that's a lot of faff to wash the welldeck & bedroom carpet, but its you, what more can I say. You have shown us London from a completely different perspective, no traffic fumes, noise, getting barged about by rushing pedestrians or showered by sweat from sweaty embankment joggers. Thank you. Keep vlogging.
hehe! Cheers Doug.
That trip was awesome as you guys, hope the buttys went down well, have a well deserved rest guys, see you on the next one.
Thanks 👍
Love how he's piloting the boat up the Thames one hand on the tiller and the other holding the unbrella. I just love how genuine you both are..... motor on.
😂😂😂😂
I was thinking Mary Poppins
You made the passages on the Thames look effortless and totally safe only because you carefully planned the journey and heeded the warnings for making a safe passage. It’s obvious how well you work together as a team.
Thank you for being one of the only people to acknowledge that 😉
It might have been a harrowing journey for you two but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the trip up and down the Thames with you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Lol That mention of Otis being back next week saved another comment asking where the bleep Otis is. 😠😉 Another great video guys. Thanks again for sharing your adventures.
Don't worry, next week is literally the Otis Show 🐶 🥰
What a wonderful experience, can't tell you how much I loved this! Really enjoyed watching, thank you for taking us along! Take really good care...stay safe! x
I'm also looking forward to watching your Realtime video's as well! What a nice bonus! Please give Otis cuddles for me.💖x
Thank you so much!
Thanks guys for taking us on another fantastic adventure on the tidal Thames and as usual a very interesting and hilarious journey. Have a well earned rest and we'll see you both and Otis next week. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thanks 👍
What an experiance the last 2 vlogs, with busy-ness, chopy-ness and lovely sights around London but after the few months I can understand the welcoming feeling for the calmer canals. Very enjoyable thank you x
Thank you!
Love the quality of your vlogs and the raw emotions you have on your journeys. As always, and a feature of your vlogs, the research you make on the local histories really great to hear. Just superb guys, you are greatly appreciated for just being you.
Thank you so much!
Thames experience has been brilliant viewing , enjoyed every video and the last two were just so Must do viewing . Good luck on Grand Union canal try the Aylesbury Arm a real treat and peaceful . Live not at all far from the Aylesbury Arm , you would enjoy i am certain .
Thanks, Lawrence
your very brave doing the thames, you too make me laugh with ya bickering , keep up the good work
Thanks 👍
You two have taken me to places I will never get to see except though your eyes.Thank you so much keep up the good work
Our pleasure!
Silver Fox showed that she’s a water vessel, not a house, this trip. She’s lovely.
We loved this trip x
It all looks so familiar, it makes me realise how much of London I have seen on my visits there. Every major landmark brought back a memory of who I was with when I went there. It is incredible how much I must have tucked away at the back of my brain only to find it coming back while watching this video. Well done guys., a visual treat.
Thank you 👍🏻
yet another fantastic video. Thanks guys.😀
Glad you enjoyed it
Greetings from Arkansas USA 😊 I really do enjoy your videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
I have loved this and the last vlog. Iwatched last weeks 5 times. On to the second for this one. Also the Realtime Narrowboat journey while sewing .
Awesome! Thank you!
OK, mates...someone's gotta say it. If we don't get to see Otis just a little bit on every episode, we're going to have to drop ya's. You know we're kidding, but love to see that sweet face!
Don't worry. The next episode is literally The Otis Show! 🐶 🥰
I enjoyed the return trip on the Thames as much as the first, thank you both, hope you have a nice rest from filming you've certainly earned it. See you next time.
Glad you enjoyed it. See you next week!
Of all the Narrow Boat channels I've somehow found (RUclips's algorithm is odd), you guys have been one of the most fun. I'm guessing because of your back and forth banter. Absolutely enjoyed your adventure. Cheers from Germany.
Wow, thanks!
Brilliant again guys... So, now you're on the Grand Union - thats my turf! I did my Marathon training runs North (and South) from Watford. I've also supported my buddy on some stages of his 60k run (Kings Cross to Bletchley) so I know it well - enjoy. I hope you make the most of a few days off - by god, you've earned it!
Nice one! Seems like forever since I did the London Marathon!
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!! Very brave indeed! As usual I enjoyed every second of it. Can't wait to finish up my job, then look into building my own Narrowboat!!!
Nice one! 👍🏻
Brilliant again!!! We always sit down to watch ‘the boys’ on a Friday night... it means the weekend has started!!!
And I got a parcel in the post today.... something to look forward to in January!!
Love that!
Have watched the both real time videos. Bloody enjoyable , you guys are the tops in my book Pete in Kiwi Land
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this weekly dose of relaxation and education! 💕
You are so welcome!
To travel along the River Thames in a canal boat can be treacherous - people don’t realise how wide and tidal the river can be - Love seeing the City from the river and all the new buildings - I am old enough to remember when the “ Pool of London “ was a hive of activity with boats unloading their goods to go to their respective warehouse - You were very brave to take that journey and obviously happy to be back on a calm and sedate canal - An excellent video - Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
We may not be your most common viewers, but the little boy I babysit here in Nova Scotia Canada and I love you guys. He’s going to be 2 in a couple of weeks and his favourites sayings are now ‘traaaaain’ and ‘Dillon puppy’. Whenever he’s getting a bit fussy or before nap time we just watch you guys and the world is good again so thanks. I thinks it’s your voices and choice of music. And I love it because my family vacations in the UK in the 80’s were always on canal boats and I love the memories. My fave canal was Cambridge and the R. Ouse. Thanks for all you do.
Awww, that's amazing! Thank you so much for telling us. So cute! 🥰
One more thing, I am so excited to see your new boat venture. It's incredible and was just thinking the other day how incredible it would be to see what narrowboats could be. Can't wait! Best of luck and CHEERS!
Thanks, Mark.
Tidal Thames episodes are wonderful. Very exciting.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Great video and wonderful music! Where is Captain Otis? You two are very entertaining and informative. Thank you again for ALL the work you do. Bruce from Northern California
Don't worry. Next week is literally the Otis Show 🐶 🥰
Shaun with the umbrella, looks like a southern bell 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
I have never been to England and am not likely to. But almost all the names of bridges are absolutely familiar to me. It is incredible to take this tour through London by river.
It's a great experience 👍🏻
Hi, I found you on RUclips this week and have now caught up with your travels. Thank you for your wit and laughter, it has made my week. We are getting a narrow boat soon, so hope to wave to you on our way. Thank-you both.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awwwwww there was me keeping an eye open for you cruising up the lea!
Maybe next time 👍🏻
Great video. And great to see you both having fun. You deserve it.
Thanks so much!
How much head room your boat needs is called its Air Draft ;)
Great video as always..
👍🏻
Michigan here, great lakes area and I envy your canal systems videos tremendously!
Thanks 👍
Great episode as always. You make it look easy so there was no evidence of the struggle to keep the boat from hitting any wall.
Thanks again!
Enjoyed the video guys, but I do miss those beautiful drone shoots over the magnificent British countryside and the most mesmerizing music ever, looking forward to your return to the canals.
Us too! 👍🏻☺️
With the wakes of the other vessels, you guys are either crazy or very brave. Thank you AGAIN, for what you post! LOVE IT ALL!!!
Thanks so much!
I ‘be found myself holding my breathe from the start of this one......the green weed stuff in the water looks like it stinks ! 😁 Tower Bridge....what a fantastic sight to motor under. ❤️ An Uber boat?... what the.....?????? Water ingress......you’ll need to wring the boat out a bit...am still holding my breath on this one....it’s getting scary.....and the threat of shooting is not helping!! I wish I had known that you were going to Londinium, I’d have kindly asked you to go Thames ‘beachcombing’ for a 17th century clay pipe for me ...it’s on my ‘to do’ list! Hope the other narrowboat made it ok. It’s such a skill, doing what you’re both doing, and I applaud you for it....definitely not for the faint hearted. Well done lovely fellas....I think you’re such a fab team. ❤️ The Grand Union.......lovely....I know the bit that meanders down through Cassiobury Park in Watford. Used to walk and cycle that stretch a lot. Hope you’re having a good rest and that Otis is ok. Lots of love lovely fellas. 😘😘😘
haha! The green stuff (duckweed) isn't bad, just tiny little leaves and don't smell. It was like a shanty town in Cassiobury park with boats that seemed to live there.
You can find clay pipes along the canals - the dredgers dig up loads! 🙂
Brilliant!
Thanks, Louise! x
Long day for your guys but ... WOW ... what a vlog (both of them) on the Thames! Again, more wonderful memories. I so look forward to my Silver Fox Fridays! Stay safe and healthy and many pats for Otis!
Don't worry. Next week is pretty much the Otis Show 🐶 🥰
All I can say is brilliant again👍
Thank you!
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering about Otis. Tell him his fans said 'Welcome back'. Don't worry, y'all all share the same fans. We all enjoy your adventures. I will have to take some time to watch the real time videos. Should be entertaining.
Don't worry, next week is literally the Otis Show 🐶 🥰
Hi colin and Shaun, fantastic video as usual, you've got some balls to do that, the way those waves were😬, keep up the great videos 👍
Thanks 👍
Shaun the way your holding your umbrella, you look like you have a bit of my Mary Poppins thing going on. LOL
😂😂
Keep the outtakes coming too 😊😊😊🇦🇺
Always plenty of those 😂
Nothing nicer than early Saturday morning taking a trip with you. New Zealand 🇳🇿
Glad you enjoyed it
Great vlog,enjoy your rest ❤️
Thank you 😊
OH SHERBERT hope little otis had a life jacket on too looks SCARY what a dirty river
So which cupboard/locker did you hide him in??
Otis wasn't with us.
Very smart to not have Otis aboard during the tidal Thames. He is so little and the river is huge and busy. Love you guys. While I am locked down in the US I can travel vicariously through you.
Never seen London from that view b4 and yes wow it is awesome, My heart was pounding whilst you were on the Thames even thought now it's a year later.
It was an absolutely awesome trip xx
I've come back for a rewatch of what I call the Tower Bridge days and the end of your time on the Thames. I'd found your channel during this time, and binge watched from the beginning. The first 'caught up' videos were just after Dylan, and the damage from the other boat. At the time I felt immensenly privileged that you two chose to share your journey with us. A couple years on, and your journey continues. I still feel priviledged to be a subscriber, and a member - from the other end of the world in New Zealand. Arohanui.
I loved these two. Looked really exciting - not surprised you needed a break though.
Cheers Phil.
Excellent Adventure! Thanks. Enjoy your R&R.
Thanks, will do!
Shaun you were magnificent, yes Colin you may have been a nightmare but I would have been too. Thank goodness you are back on the cut. Rest up guys you deserve it.
Cheers, Jane!
Truly a couple of Northern boys. Spend months traveling to London, the metropolis, Capital of the World, when one tires of London one tires of Life and all that. And once you finally arrive you look at each other and go "Nah we're good" and head home. :)
Halfway there already 😉
My hubby and I watch you guys every night as our 'vacation' treat. I started from the beginning so we are only at #82, Hope to catch up to your present day soon. Great photography and interesting info. One of the best travel vlogs around. Greetings from Florida USA.
That is awesome!
Colin, you’ve been like a kid at Christmas this Thames trip! It’s wonderful to see an adult view the world with the same joy and wonder and awe as a child! It reminds us that as crappy as things may seem, there still is beauty , excitement and hope!💟💟💟💟❤️❤️
What's the point in growing up? 😂
👍❤️
Nice video guys, miss London a lot. Been gone 20 years. Every time I go back it's changed. Greetings from New Zealand and subscribed.
Welcome!
Whatever the week may have delivered, there’s a wonderful pause in it every Friday now when I catch up with your adventures, your superb videography and music choices, your humour and warmth. Seeing buildings, bridges and scenery from the boat viewpoint, and with the added bonus of facts and info is great; an alternative travellers guide in some respects! Hope you enjoyed a few days ‘off’ after the rather bouncy looking Thames! Looking forward to exploring the Grand Union with you :)
Thank you! Looking forward to a few days rest 💜
If someone told me they can't stop watching 2 fellas travelling about on a narrow boat I'd say they need to get a life..well done RUclips, you finally recommended something really good.. why do I find these so easy to watch....
Hehe! Thanks!
@@FoxesAfloat no probs... binge watching to catchup lol
Now to relax in calmer waters , you both did very well handling the wash from other river traffic , and watch out for that sun burn , hope you use protective lotion . Perhaps an open canopy over the back maybe to protect you from the sun ?? . Yet again another great vlog and a happy Saturday morning for me take care .
Thanks 👍
Superb
Thanks 🤗
Thanks for the Thames adventure - very entertaining. Good to be back on the canal system. All the best, catch a good rest. 😃👌👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Thanks, Terry! 👍
Loved This !! 😍 Thank You ! Cheers From California 🧡🤎💛❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Shaun and Colin
Thank you for your great vlogs. At some point in the future when you get further north on the Grand Union you may be interested in cruising the Wendover Arm to Little Tring. From there you can walk about a mile along the dry canal to see the restoration progress being made. Keep having fun. Steve
Hi Stephen. We've actually passed there now (chasing winter stoppages) but we do include some information about the Wendover Arm on the episode recorded in that area. When we return next year we'd love to dedicate a whole episode to the project.
I am loving your videos. The life stress has been tremendous lately but watching you guys makes me relax and forget about the horrible things going on. Thank you both!
Our pleasure!
Thanks for taking us along what an adventure sights were awesome!
Glad you like them!
Amazing tour thanks....and the fantastic buildings alongside the river
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video but the Mrs Bucket line had me laughing for a good while!!! Thanks for that!!♡♡
You are so welcome
