that's so cool.
i bet this movie will get more than 1 milion views in a while...
I paused at the very beginning. Looked like figure skating, with the lights shining down on them. The coolest video on youtube, other than "American West - True HD"
Impressive! The quality is great as well! I'm glad RUclips allows this kind of quality now.
I love these! So cool.:)
Very nice! I like the movement to frame it out...good stuff!
Wow - that's an incredible amount of work.
very cool and the music is awesome
Now, THATS AWESOME!!!
That's amazing.
wow man this video rocks i love it
amazing!!!!
Incredible
in arena's that use hockey and basketball a lot they cover the ice with this thick plastic like material and then put the basketball court on, to protect the wood of the court its assembled on blocks of 2x4's
Great video, its good to see how they change the floor from hockey to basketball, now i know how its done even though in most cases the arena crew leave the ice down and put something over the ice then the basketball floor.
It was a very unique conversion but I liked it. Goodbye Arco/Sleep Train Arena.
Cool video !
...and what a waste of bloody time...all that man power and all those man hours...unbelievable
They only use ice at Arco for Disney on Ice/Figure Sating events, which is only about 6-7 days of the year. They make the ice from scratch before each of those events and scrape it up when it's over.
this video is great i always wonder how they change the arena floor and now i know thanks for the video (tlapse).
10s-25s - They let the lampies on the ice? Whoa... and by my count they did it in about an hour and a half. Good work!
that's insane!! in a good way
I expected the ice removal to be a little more high tech than "Shovel it into a truck"
Most arenas use the zamboni to "scrape" the ice rather than shovel it.
I've always wondered how this is done. Thank God for youtube
@jedimasterjack NHL arenas have freezing equipment permanently embedded in the concrete floor. This video shows a temporary freezing surface suitable for figure skating, but not really hockey.
Shared hockey/basketball arenas usually put a layer of insulated padding over the ice, then install the basketball floor on top of that. They only melt the ice once or twice a year, unless there's a major problem.
holy shit dude thats alot of work
Major flaw in arco arena's design. this is truly a basketball arena. Arco was never built for any type of ice event such as hokey. Cuz the stage is in the wrong place it should be long ways not on the side talking about the stage. Though this is still even with all the drama about being outdated ONE OF THE BEST places in the world to see a basketball game. No Arena in sports gets you closer to the court then arco Great vid. RIP Arco!!!!
looks fun
Arco Arena isnt an NHL Arena. It is a basketball arena, that can convert for concerts and Ice Shows. It is more cost efficient to Set up Ice for the 5-7 Days out of the year that they hold these type of events.
COOL
Interesting....I had read somewhere that the Arco Arena was unusual in that the layout of the ice rink was perpendicular to that of the basketball court...and this video seems to prove that (we don't see an actual hockey rink but I assume it would be the same).
1 million views, that would be cool
looked like a gaggle of ants ^^
cool video!!!
thats insane...
thats like wooow!!!
That would be hard work, but also a bunch of fun! Maybe I can help out at Phillips Arena one day before a Hawks game! ;)
It must take so much organization to pull a transformation like that off.
how do they know when the hoops are in the exact right place?
Measurements
cool
Well these guys did it in 3 minutes :D
@germxv Power Balance Pavilion, formerly Arco Arena, is shaped like an octagon, unlike modern arenas which are oval shaped. I don't know if that has anything to do with the way the ice is laid out, but in oval arenas the ice and basketball court has to be laid out in the same direction because of the shape of the building.
No wonder why Sacramento, CA needs a new arena. Arco Arena may be a "historic venue" in today's NBA, but it's no "basketball to hockey" arena.
it must be so frustrating to be one of the people who has to constantly take apart and rebuild this.
@jedimasterjack This isn't for the NHL, in all NHL arenas the ice is kept in for the season and is covered with a rubber mats before the next events floor is piece together. Pumping the water out after every game would be incredibly wasteful and time consuming. That would be done when an arena only uses the ice for a specific event once or twice a year i.e figure skating, which is what I believe this ice was for.
Bet that was the only major league arena to do the change over east/west,, north/south.
@tlapse that is a strange arena. most times the court and the ice go in the same direction. what kind of setup is that? weird
a very long process.. i didnt even kno that the seats slide in or out. amazing
The only time ice is laid out at Sleep Train Arena (formerly Arco Arena) is for Disney on Ice or figure skating events. Sacramento doesn't have a professional hockey team.
What company cleans the arena???
some places like cover the ice with some time of thing and then put the basketball floor over that that way seems way easyer
krass
some people just stand and watch the others working. lol
I work at an arena and do this all the time it's funny to see how much more efficiently y'all work
It's a shame that we're not going to be seeing that basketball floor anymore after next season.
2:18 the seat moving like it got pull by someone.. Wow
where was the Plexiglas panels for the rink in the beginning?
It wasn't a hockey game
diosssssss que currada
I have one question ???
Do you stay with your camera ???
@RubenCraninx In this case, the camera and computer were in a private box and the door was locked.
Yes, they are the freezer panels
One thing I noticed thats very strange is the courts face different directions. I don't know any arenas that do this.
bro this arena is the weirdest wrena ive ever seen
And it’s an NBA arena too.
this video is 3 min. but how many time need in the real time to do this?
just a question, How did the hockey players play without boards?
wasnt a hockey game
How many people work on this project?
@jedimasterjack Modern Arenas don't remove the ice. They lay the basketball court on top of it.
i think they did this at the staples center in 4 hours one time
i'm not from us so i have 2 question for u guys
1-doesnt it cost much more than just build another center for kings ?
2-are these guys doing that almost everyday ??
Is this a permanent change or is it seasonal?
I never knew the ice had to go completely.
TROLL it doesn't if they regularly need ice in the arena.
fuckin magic
how many hours do they finish the floor? Why don't they use 2 difference stadiums?
phung86 cause that would be to much work and first of all it’s called an arena stadiums are much bigger and there may not be another arena near there and also people do this a lot in arenas
So strange to see the rink and court perpendicular.
Search on "brokenkites" to find more of his music
Too bad it's not even the ARCO arena anymore. Now it's the "Powerbalance arena"
@camperjohn6464 its seasonal they do it after each game
It was probably disney on ice
It happened once when the ice started melting on the court during a hornets game I remember
Would this mean that if the Kings move to Seattle, they would change the team name to Seattle Supersonics? Just wondering about that.
We just refurbished our arena, we would love to have your team.
youre kidding me right? youve never seen it done before.
@jedimasterjack They melt the ice and pump out the water.
imagine doing this everyday -.-
watch it backwords and u can see them build a bascketball cort into an ice ring lol
RIP
funny how you will see people running around on the seats XD
@mongo399 uhh no they didnt, its time lapped
@RyanHerrboldtTV i'm thinking amazing because i'm brazilian ok?
@tlapse youtube "Boston Bruins to Boston Celtics Changeover Time Lapse" for an example of what the NHL does.
Arco Arena is such a dump! I cant wait for the new arena to be built
Actually, they never take the ice off. that would be ridiculous. It's hard to tell b/c of the time lapse, but they just put insulation over it and then lay the wooden boards for the basketball court over that.
Kevin Huff they did take the ice away in this video, but that's because it was set up for a one time event that required ice. Notice that the ice wasn't painted, there were no boards, penalty box, etc. Definitely not an NHL-NBA conversion.
That is cool as shitcrap
Looks like a lot of people standing around waiting and excess steps throughout. This could use some airspeed if you know what I mean. Process Improvement? 5S? No? Damn you military!!!
I dont know exactly but it looks like it was a "Disney on Ice" type show. Definitely not Hockey.
around 1:46 what are they doing
The appear to be taking up the floor cover that was under the ice. As others have noted, unlike an arena that also has an NHL (or minor league) hockey team, the ice isn't left down all year at arenas like this. And in some cases they don't even have permanent embedded refrigeration equipment to make ice, which may have been the case with ARCO/Sleep Train Arena, so that could actually be the pipes to cool the floor as well.
lol 2:06 scoreboards suddenly drops down :D
@tlapse they do not do that for the NHL.
smudent2010 I don't see any where in the vid or description that says they do.
oh its not going from a hockey game
u would get plenty more views, if you put in the title "True HD"!!!! tahtws wat i do
woah tht, whatever u call over head thingy (i dont watch basketball often...) looks fake when it comes in at 2:05
i don't know what they're doing before 1:30 ....
lol
maybe? maybe not.?
