      I'm physically disabled, and I walk my dog 2-3x per day, trying to take different routes each trip. Plus, she has a big yard in which to play. 👍🏻
      She gets SO excited to go for walks and car rides, but she gets so nervous during the trips. But she's a little hellion if I don't exercise her physically and mentally, every day. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So, I'm divided. I'm not sure if it's good for her to be so nervous.

    •  2 года назад +1

      @@Acidfunkish the dog feeds off of your energy. I have a very confident dog and a nervous puppy. She learns confidence from him, but there are still things she’s scared of, like swimming.
      With swimming, I put on a life vest and drag her in the water, then let her do a round and up again. No “aw, poor puppy” but instead “good job”. With some dogs this can create more anxiety, with others, it eliminates anxiety to be “thrown into” whatever they’re scared of, as long as the outcome is fantastic. Her anxiety is slowly decreasing, but with our first dog, he was also scared and after 20 times, he’d jump in on his own and he has a blast now

    When I walked peoples dogs it was the chihuahuas and Boston terriers that wanted the most exercise I would take them for a mile long hike up the mountain and they loved it. Many of those dogs are still alive and that was back when I was in high school and I am 28 now. Their owners still take them to the mountains. They still love it even as they are elderly dogs.

    Generally, tiny dogs have narrow necks and thin windpipes, so attaching a leash to their collar is very uncomfortable for them, easily choking them if you're not careful. Better to use a harness, which puts the pressure on their more sturdy chest instead.

    • @akshithvijaykumar3779
      @akshithvijaykumar3779 2 года назад +6

      Harness shouldn’t be used unless you want the dog to pull. Instead you use regular leash and teach it not to pull. Especially a fearful shouldn’t be in front of the walk but in the back in a follower state

      @@akshithvijaykumar3779 That is kind of wrong. Yes, u use harnesses if u want the dog to pull (like in sleighing sports or Mantrailing). But Collars are only recommended when the dog can already walk quite well on the leash. Otherwise it can be extremly damaging to the dogs neck, his back and for his eyes (bcos if the dog pulls while being leashed on his collar it creates pressure). That's why a good fitting harness is way better and healthier. The dog should be able to learn how to walk in a harness without any new (dogmade) problems :)

    • @akshithvijaykumar3779
      @akshithvijaykumar3779 2 года назад

      @@shoyrushoyru Harnesses were originally built for pulling and to attack. When you put tension on a harness the dogs natural instinct is to pull. If you are saying to train a dog not to pull using a harness it’s not the natural way to train. Take a look at other animals like horses or donkeys they use halter to guide the animal. But a harness is placed to pull carts, chariots etc. Nobody should be training a dog to not pull using a harness.

      Any dog can be trained to walk well in a harness :)
      Any dog can also accidentally injure its throat with leash around the neck :(
      I once saw a harness for big and strong dogs, I think Victoria has had something similar on the show: if the dog pulls too hard on that kind of harness its head gets pulled to the side by a slip around the nose. That way, if they want to chase something and really pull, they tackle themselves. Not very nice for the dog, but still better than a neck injury or damaged wind pipe.

I have 3 dogs and they have be well behaved so they can go off leash at the dog park. A loose leash is absolutely necessary to get us to the park safely.

      yes, but owners shouldn't leave the harness on. I keep seeing reviews where owners are posting chewed off harnesses...because the harness was left on. The harness is easy enough to put on... put your hand through the neck and have a treat in that hand, slip the harness over the head while giving the dog the treat. then buckle up and get going on your walk.

      The biggest reason dogs get bitten is because the owner of the biting dog didn't step in fast enough, or didn't have enough control over their dog. Every instance I've heard of a dog fight, or dog chase, they were in an open field or wide pathway- with the aggressor not on the leash.
