Unfortunately, Disneyland is a no-fly zone per the FAA, and that includes Disney-flown drones. This is something that has to be worked out with the federal government. But perhaps in time for the 70th next year!
Disneyland Paris also has a no-fly zone, and had to work with the French civil aviation authority on the maximum height and a buffer zone/separation (they use a geo-fence to contain them) between the drones during transit and performance, and guests/cast members. They also run tests and checks before every show, including checking weather (i.e. wind speed is key) and sending up test drones to confirm if the show can proceed.

Das ist wirklich fantastisch! Am besten gefallen mir der Dumbo Zug,das Piratenschiff und der Drache und das Feuerwerk gegen Ende (wie beim Original damals). Es ist total faszinierend mit den Drohnen! Und mir gefällt daß es viel leiser (gefällt den Anwohnern sicher auch) und umweltfreundlicher ist
1:20 - 1:25 is a great reveal and sound effect, felt like a kingdom hearts moment...well done Paris, Disney should in incorporate some of the effects to other shows...
That's pretty impressive! I figured it was only a matter of time before Disney got in on the drone show action. As I was watching this, I was thinking about how cool it would be if they did the flying pirate ship, and they did! Super cool!
Disneyland Paris have been doing drones for a while now, they really cranked up during the 30th anniversary celebration and last year's Bastille Day show is also well worth a look, and the Avengers show in the Studios park.

In Anaheim it is a permission issue. Which to me is strange since fireworks are far more a nuisance than LED lit drones.

No, this is the pre-show and the fireworks (Disney Dreams) runs a few minutes later. Just like the drone show they had for the 30th anniversary.
