Alan Moore became an actor who plays the part of "Alan Moore "24/7. He created a public persona and a "bit" that he would do for his audience that eventually overwhelmed and replaced the real person that was once there.

The interview is crushing because Moore demonstrates what a true writer is supposed to be: A creator of worlds, fascinated by characters and ideas, committed to them. Exited to share them to the world in new ways. They have been replaced by the mentally ill, political agents on Twitter. It's really about "what happened to WRITERS".

It's extremely difficult to manufacture enthusiasm. It's all vs all, and charting the long term peaks and troughs of the industry, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that the mercenaries brought in to hawk product are seeking to skim some limelight for themselves.
Love what you do and work takes on a different tone. Trading time and effort for a paycheck seems like the baseline assumption, with both parties seeking to undercut the other for table scraps.

One of my favourite Alan Moore comics that I think most people missed was "Promethea", came out in the early 00s from America's Best Comics. I have great respect for Moore. I see him as the single greatest comic writer of all time with not much competition. He’s inspired me to want to become a comic artist. But he started comics down a path of being dark, adult, edgy postmodern deconstruction pieces. That’s all well and great, but it’s no longer nearly as new or subversive as the creators would like to believe.
I think there’s room for all different kinds of comics and comic fans. We can’t exactly afford to exclude potential fans any more than we have to. They don’t sell as it is, and we’re coming from an age of superhero renaissance in film and television, where you would think comics should be picking up all sorts of new fans.
I believe I’ve seen this interview you’re referring to, and I remember thinking “this lady has no idea what she’s in for.” It is beautiful, as you said. Alan Moore was humble, respectful and almost optimistic, and Len Wein gave Moore his blessing very publicly to deconstruct Swamp Thing. (If it’s the one I’ve seen)

Alan Moore will go down as one of the greatest Comic book writer's ever. He, along with Gibbons, Kevin O'Neil, Grant Morrison and John Wagner dragged British Comics into the modern age in the early 80s! Comics as an art form was redefined by Moore with Watchmen. I don't think we'll ever see his likes again. Thankfully i was lucky enough (and old enough lol) to have lived through that special time in Comic book history!

Cant deny that the man's brain and storytelling is far beyond anything in todays comics, a real storyteller. He even have the looks of a old wise or crazy wizard for crying out loud. Go with the vibe of ..."legends and curses they pray on your soul". One of a kind and a truly gifted storyteller.
PS Alan is acting like a pretty much normal guy and seems really happy and passionate in this interview.
Whats up with the crazy zoom in close ups though? Made me smile and his (and the others) positivity is really is putting a smile on my face, a real gem of a interview i must say.

Moore lives in a town called Northampton in the middle of England. He's written a novel and retreated into esoteric stuff. He's become very disillusioned with Britain because of Brexit and because his socialist party lost the recent election. He's a visionary artist and is hard to categorise. He's out of time with his age. That is probably what gave him his imaginative vision and originality.

Alan Moore gave all his fux away because he is a socialist--or because his stories and characters were butchered by Hollywood(except I love the movie and TV versions of _Constantine_ because the actors actually love the character and it showed)
The man is brilliant, and it is painful to see a time when comics were an art form that could make a political statement that you would read even if you didn't agree and still love the story, and then get jolted back to today, where garbage tier stories put the pulp in pulpit.
