Mughal emperor Shah Alam was a supporter of Marathas. He even appointed mahadhji shinde as a protector of Delhi. This is why he was blinded by rohilla pathan Najibuddulah

      Sir
It was not Shah Alam who appointed Mahadji but Bajirao confined Shah Alam to Delhi and put Mahadji Scindia as guardian of Delhi .
Shah Alam had to obtain permission of Scindia to make a movement even within Delhi. Such was the Greatness of BajiRao .

Good speech but any serious observer will figure out several discrepancies in this version. Several things were whitewashed. Two of them - the tyranny of Marathas in collecting taxes from even hindu kings irked them so much that they chose not to side with them in Panipat. It is prominent in Bengali folklore how ruthless these Marathas were even to so calledindigenous people, in South, they destroyed Temples and the seat of Shankaracharya. Number 2 is the oppressive caste system, the Peshwas introduced in their reign. The sudras and the dalits were treated very very badly. That oppression was unprecedented. Good they lost otherwise India would have landed up into the grips of orthodox Brahminism.

Typical leftist interpretation which ignores the Muslim oppression, utter destruction of Hindu temples in north to such an extent that today in north India today there is hardly any temple worth name which predates 18th,the usurious system tax collection by these savages pauperised entire Hindu society.
As regards tax collection is concerned it was not the general public who had to pay it was from rulers who were any way collecting the revenue and it was 25 percent hence called chauth and it was collected from Hindu rulers who were willing to pay the Muslim king and were so cowardly that they did not object to oppression of Hindus,it was Marathas who protected Hindus,Huge donations were given by Marathas to Hindu temples all over India.
It was Ahilya bai Holkar queen of Indore who built thousands of temples in North India including Kashi Vishwanath,Banaras and Somnath in Gujarat.
In fact Maratha power was the first Hindutva state with declared policy of protection and propagation of Hinduism, this is like a bone stuck in the throat of leftists

1:01:00 > Uday K seems to be saying that around 11th century we became more rigid and before that the caste system etc. was more flexible. he seems to be blaming it all on the 'Muslim' invasions. I think this goes against scholarly understanding. i would like to have more details on why he thinks this way.

Secondly change in Varna is evident in Ramayana Mahabharata Smritis (including Manusmriti)...(You can google it)... As here in Bihar Sharma surname blongs to both Lohar (Shudra) and Brahmin community..... Chauhan/Parmar is common among Rajputs and tiller class as well.... Bhardwaja Gotra belongs to Brahmin, Naai (Shudra) and Rajput as well..... Surely they belong to same family which later separated on the basis of their diversification in occupation...
Though change in Varna was never in trend in pre Islamic India but flexibility was definitely there.....

    Is this history ?
There are two under-currents to the narrative. One is communal, Hindu-Muslim. Another is Swarajya, Indian nation-state equated with Marathas (Maharashtrian Brahmin ,Peshwai ). He couches Hindu-Muslim in Indigenous-invader terms, but what is conveyed by this is a common knowledge between him and the audience. Apart from Shivaji, his Maratha history is glory of Peshwas.
Dr.Kulkarni does not seem to have heard of 250 years rule of Vijayanagara empire. Chalukya,Hoysala,Chola and other southern kings who were very much in command till 16th century in this part of present day India. He glosses over the fights between 'very much the indigenous' kings in the North and South and Marathas. He hides looting of Sringeri by Maratha forces. He does not mention the loot, pillage and killing by Marathas in Bengal. He makes out as if the Maratha rule was all benevolent and 'invader' rule was all tyranny. But all this is ahistorical.
The content of Kulkarni's history is the same as that of Savarkar and RSS and Hindutva, born out of nostalgia and longing for return of brahmin Peshva rule. This is the rock-bed of Hindutva and their communal narratives. This is the same spring from which Godse was launched. This is very dangerous terrain.
So, BIC has to please somebody ?

@@rohitadhatrao6877 you have a point. There is extensive communication between Nana Fadnavis in Pune and Gopalrao Patwardhan who led the Maratha campaign against Tipu. This matter is investigated in detail by historians like Govind Sakharam Sardesai. The raid on Sringeri was the tragic consequence of allowing auxiliaries like the Pindharis to accompany the main Maratha army. It was not the intent of the Maratha Army to raid the Sringeri Temple complex.

The parts of India that the Marathas annexed and integrated into their empire became the Republic of India, while the areas they lost to the Afghans and the Brits in the 18th century became Pakistan.
You can see what has become of the parts of India under the Islamic Republic of Pakistan or Afghanistan -

The last indigenous empire was of the Sikhs under Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Punjab before we went under foreign rule. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was able to invade and demarcate the boundaries with the Abdali Afgans by annexing Peshawar, Kaybar and Attak from the Afgans. The Afgans to this day have not been able to retrieve those territories from the present day Pakistan. To say that the Maratha rule was the last indigenous rule as well as the only indigenous rule to be proud of is not correct. Infact it was the inefficiency of the Maratha side of the Indian rule that led to an invasion of the British Rule in India. The Maratha rule over Punjab would have only lead to slavery of the Punjabis much earlier than the rest of India ruled by the Marathas (a century to be precise). The speaker is hell bent on glorifing the Maratha rule and whole doing so the speaker is not only concealing the facts but also twisting them.
