Cool idea, but now "there's a coupon for that." Just picked up the "free" LED headlamp from Harbor Freight and (at first glance) it seems great! I'm going to run 2 lithium ion batteries in it this winter and see how it performs in the cold and around the garage. Perfect headlamp to throw in the car (with lithium ion batteries) just in case! However, if you're after maximum illumination, your solution still accomplishes the goal... The new version of the headlamp only has one bright LED diode. I'm just glad Harbor Freight is finally coming out with a new "free" coupon because I have stacks of the blue magnetic LED work lights!

In case of 1 bulb headlamp is the plastic part where it is written on/off has a small Crack or everything was OK when you bought it?
Mine had a very weak battery case cover, two plastic hinges that are poorly made. It flew apart across the room while I was taking a piss, trying it out. Luckily I have that blue light and it's great with 2 power settings and a side light.
