    Thank you for a very useful resource. Your self reflection is most insightful and I will be breaking your video down in minute details to learn as much as I can from your practice. Perhaps We can do a practice together when I come visit KL next (when boarder lockdown is lifted)

    You have an excellent sense of self reflection and self critique. We should all be so diligent in how we improve our practice.

    Coming from a non dojo guy here, if it were not for your narration, I would have thought your form was nearly perfect. You definitely appear very professional. Pardon my language, but simply badass.
    I suppose when you attain such height, it is the most minute of details that require the most attention. Your narration and overlays really helped outline exactly what you mean when describing your future adjustments. This is something I have not seen from other sword users. Truly a delight, and a trove of exceptional practice considerations and ideas. Your overlays are something I would never have considered, but at home training makes this idea almost mandatory for proper technical review.
    I am pretty sure I can say this for more than myself, but I appreciate your uploads!

      Thank you for your kind words! im happy my sharing have valuable ideas for people.
      I wholeheartedly understand - it is alot of things no one talks about (even amongst Dojo people). I was once a non-dojo sword flailing anime inspired guy :D.
      Only because of my other Martial Arts background and an extremely good timing of finding an Iaido Dojo within my area i am fortunate to learn it.
      unfortunately my experiance in Dojo is very short lived and so I decided to use RUclips as a driving force to keep practicing, and uniquely enough it makes me think even more internally how "one" should practice the art with no Dojo & Sensei.
      - So me sharing my progress and what i know is actually helping me deepen my journey too :)
      (even tho some may shun the idea) - but hey, I do what i can and i try not to claim any false teachings...you wont be seeing me opening any Official Ryuha anytime soon hahaha

    Great video! Thanks for posting. I really like the teki "lines" really helps me invision the correct placement of the cut. And your lines showing correct kissaki placement on chiburi are very helpful to me.

      Thanks! The teki lines is for my own reference, but it should act as a general idea for others too. Because different schools may have varied interpretations so it's best to follow the ones you are taught.

    Hi there. You are doing very well! Would I correct to guess you study Shinden Ryu? Just noticed the sageo placement. The second kesa cut on kesa-giri was sweet! If you don't mind me pointing out a few things from a seasoned iaido-ka. When rising after noto during mae through tsuka-ate, try not to lean forward, it looks as if you are pushing off your front leg like you are tired. Rise up as if being pulled from a string attached to the top of your head, it might sound silly, but it helps if you squeeze your inner thighs together. Curious, you don't do a stomp during the "ate" in tsuka-ate? During the ate, try not to lean into the strike, when you do the tsuka drops before you strike. The tsuka should shoot straight out. Tsuka-ate is my favorite out of Seitei. Keep on swingin' my brother!

    Great video,very informative and your channel is very nice for at home practice.Also,may I ask what you did wrong with the kissaki?For my beginner eyes it looks perfectly fine,and what is the Jo-Ha-Kyu,I’ve not heard that yet.

    • @namazuryusshugyo5214
      @namazuryusshugyo5214  3 года назад +2

      thanks!
      for the way i was taught, my kissaki was far too off, it should be perpendicular with my 'shoulder joints' ? i think thats what they call it.
      Jo-Ha-Kyu is a concept that was derived from Japanese Theatre, - its basically the tempo or pacing of each movements...moving from, "beginning...speed up...explosive end" ..
      one example is when you cut it should convey there is a "beginning...then the speeding up of the technique....then a swift end to that technique"
      wikipedia have a great explanation for Jo-Ha-Kyu you can check out :)

    Question for you sir, do you warm up first a bit, and bust out a couple kata, etc, before doing a checkpoint? Or do you go right into it to see what you've retained??

    • @namazuryusshugyo5214
      @namazuryusshugyo5214  3 года назад

      I prefer to go straight at it, just something to see if i've been slacking on any particular areas. (theres alot of eating and laying in bed during covid lockdowns) hahaha
      other reason is fear that my camera overheats and miss the shots.
