Customer: “yeah, can you add another 10mm headset spacer please?, should just take a minute.”
The headset spacer is a two-piece design so would take no longer to add a spacer compared to an externally routed cable.

@@GHinWI you might need to explain the change in cable length situation for the newbies!!
However, depending on your bars an additional spacer can create a pinch point for the cables due to the increased angle and you will not be able to press the bar fully down and not be able to fit the finishing cap. I know having tried to add an additional spacer to a Spark RC Pro and it took me a while to fathom out what was going wrong. Once I went back to the original 2 x 10mm spacers the cables freed up and the one piece bar fitted as required.@@NowtDaftTonyFawcett

Depends on the bolt and the mechanic. At my shop shock hardware, hollowtech crank bolts, seat clamp and stem are always torqued correctly. Everything else is tightened by feel.

Really? How often is the cable routing a problem? Once or twice a year at most? And it’s not as if it’s YOUR problem since it’s the mechanic who has works on it, not you.
We had the same whining a decade back when bikes started going towards frame routed cables. You folks are all the same, whining and botching about issues that won’t even bother you in the least.
On that note, if you do indeed happen to be a home mechanic, then that’s on you. You make the bed that you sleep on. No one asked you to take on needless trouble by trying to work on your own bike, when there exists a simpler solution in just throwing your bike to a mechanic and letting them do the work.

@@slowcyclist4324 hahaha. Wow. Yeah I work on my own bikes because I spend my money on my bikes and components and not paying someone else to do the work. And yeah doing work on my headsets is definitely more than a couple times a year because and I use my bikes and take care of them. If you have the means to pay a mechanic to work on your stuff, awesome, but for those of us who are mechanically inclined who actually find wrenching on our stuff to be half the fun, stuff like silly cable routing is just obnoxious for routine maintenance.
