The Truth About Australia’s Future

  • Опубликовано: 5 авг 2024
  • Australia is massive and has huge deposits of natural resources, yet despite having more than enough land to build solar panels and large-scale wind power projects, Australia has a huge love affair with Coal. With a recent change in government and the looming, growing power of China, we’ve got to ask: What does Australia’s future look like?

      We need to sell coal as we have the cleanest most energy dense coal. If we don't sell it, less efficient coal will be used.

    I'm not aware of any "early" treaties between European (well British actually) settlers/governments with Australian First Nations peoples (that this video states were apparently broken). It is only in 2023 that constitutional recognition is even starting to be considered. Also it is really only by Western European standards that the majority of the country was considered unhabitable, though with climate change this is becoming more evident for everyone. The top exports of Australia are Iron Ore ($118B), Coal Briquettes ($54.3B), Petroleum Gas ($39.2B), Gold ($17.6B), and Wheat ($7.36B), exporting mostly to China ($138B), Japan ($47B), South Korea ($29.4B), India ($20.5B), and Chinese Taipei ($13.2B). Sadly even the new government has returned us to the UK and the USA with AUKUS instead of bringing us closer to the countries in our region as shown by the export numbers.

    • @tsubadaikhan6332
      @tsubadaikhan6332 Год назад

      We have actually sold Sand to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Apparently the sand they have in abundance is not good for cement and concrete. That little factoid surprised me almost as much as the fact we sell that part of the world racing camels as well. As uninhabitable as Australia's interior appears to be, it is a fine place for feral camels to grow. In fact, it's better than Arabia. Weird.

    More interestingly is that most of the advancements in solar technology have been made by government funded scientists in Australia... but due to the lack of incentive to build solar, such technologies usually end up being sold over seas.

    just a thought, but perhaps re-investigating into feasibility of Bradfield scheme to address flooddraught, energy by making use of outback for renewable energy, boost agriculture workforce, encourage population redistribution (urban->regional), and perhaps lot more potential not mentioned. Apparently Barnaby Joyce was a big advocate until he became deputy prime minister? Hope we revive this noble vision by starting to give it more serious thoughts for resilience and sustainability which will prepare Australia for the worst climate events, exponential population growth and global food shortage. but perhaps money and immediate loss of opportunity costs is always the massive obstacle to general public and politicians.

    Nice video but. The western side of the Blue Mountains is not desert. Its a massive area for agriculture. Australia grows most of its own food and exports 52% of its food. Australia grows just about every grain,vegetable and fruit. Every state in the country grows graps ( over vineyards )
    1.94 Billion dollars. Tropical fruits in North colder climate fruits in the south.

  • @JoelReid
    @JoelReid Год назад +1

    Important to note, climate models suggest that Australia is one of the few countries to benefit from climate change. While some effects like cyclones and bush fires become more common, the increased rainfall across the continent in many areas from climate change will overall benefit Australia.
    To be clear, there will be losers from it, but there will also be many winners. So suggesting Australia will lose out from climate change disagrees with current scientific climate models.

    While I like the analysis of Australia's potential, all the other stuff he talks about in terms of our future is utter crap. Take, for example, the Murray-Darling area. It is currently mired in an environmental disaster of our own making and is considered, in most years in drought conditions, and dare I say there have been fights about the rights to use those waters. More and more farmers are leaving the area for a reason. Take the recent mass fish death in the basin. While we are doing our bit for solar power generation, it is expensive. It has only been recently, in the last 5 years, that anything has been done about renewables. Most Australians would recall in 2013, our then-PM was dead against renewables. Even we don't know where our future lies. However, we will plod along as we always have and usually, until there's a certain someone who will always appear and take us either kicking and screaming, or otherwise, to the future we should have. As for China, well, China does as China wants. So what does Australia do when China does something it doesn't like? We rebuke them, like former PM Scott Morrison, and then cry about it like a child when they don't do what we think and want them to do. There is also the discussion about China's intentions for Australia. To be blunt, it would be unwise, strategically for China to attack or invade Australia. They have enough problems at home and annexing another country with its supply lines stretched long and going through so many countries, it would be very difficult for it to pull off such a plan regardless of whatever financial backing, or otherwise, that it gives to other nations in the region. Also, may I correct him in saying that China is a net importer of coal. I am not adding anything further. The title is mislabeled as the video hasn't really said anything about Australia's future. It just regurgitates information that is freely available and no new nuanced information. While I like his take, sort of, on the UK's migrant problem. Now that is a good piece. However, this one almost seems like a plagiarised thesis at best with no real conclusions.

    While this video has the fundamental facts correct, it lacks nuance and ground level understanding of the issues at play.
    Much like almost all foreign media and especially internet sources that assert themselves to be experts yet have limited their knowledge and scop to pure research from half a world away.
    I would suggest, therefore, that should you desire real and accurate information on any domestic issue from any country in the world you begin with locl sources that boast experience and feet on the ground and move on from there.
    This channel is cetainly inteligent and certainly academically informed.
    What it lacks is ground level context and understanding.
    It also rather annoyingly asserted its own political views and bias into this report and that is much harder to forgive.
