95% of the combat is real time, where You need to chain spells, dodge, parry, change magic, counter-attack, but people just focus on QTEs. That's really silly

The combat is from the dmc combat designer so it won't just be mash square. It's probably normal or easy mode. You don't really showcase a game with the player dying and stuff

Considering that the enemy has a variety of attacks there is no way you can press buttons randomly and do well. Examples You press jump - oh wrong time now you ate an attack You press dodge - wrong time you ate an attack You press attack - wrong time you ate an attack You randomly press buttons that now go on cooldown. Now they are unusable and you need them to do damage when an enemy’s will is broken or to draw an enemy in or to pull yourself up to an enemy. Get it now? Anyways it’s obvious you haven’t played any good actions games, and if you did played anything that contained real time action it didn’t have depth and it was set on easy mode.
i don't think the qte are meant as a challenge, just as little way of keeping the controller on your hand while the cutscene plays. also one added benefit no one talks about is that they offer branching paths for cutscenes. Since the qte don't game over you, but they change the outcome of the cutscene

Man they should have just used FF7 Remakes combat system and just tweaked it and actually gave us playable companions other than an AI dog. Obviously Clive’s combat moves have more depth than any character in FF7R. Doing that for every character would have taken too many hours. Anyways why would we want the same combat as FF7R when we already have FF7R and Rebirth also coming. Also I am not sure about you, but what I find exciting about a character is their personally and character development. I have played many RPGs with multiple playable characters who had terrible character development, and I didn’t really care if they died a horrible death in the game. So for me a better written unplayable character > a poorly written playable character

So far it looks like a generic hack'n slash. Nothing wrong with hack'n slashes, I love them, but Final Fantasy used to be something else a long time ago. They should have stuck with FF7R's battle system, there's no need to try and reinvent the wheel every single time. Also, dialogue is really basic. I'm not impressed but I don't hate it.

I wouldn’t go that far I mean FFXII was basically an auto battler, and FFXIII while not as braindead as FFXII could still be used in such a manner though you wouldn’t be getting 5 stars in battles since the AI isn’t very good at optimizing. Not worried about QTE but real time removes a lot of fun you can do if it is turn based. Real time feels very repetitive

Man they should have just used FF7 Remakes combat system and just tweaked it and actually gave us playable companions other than an AI dog. No sense of wonder or excitement from getting a new party member or finding an optional one. Maybe they just don't want to spend time coding multiple unique characters like OG games idk but to me that's a staple of FF games.
Obviously Clive’s combat moves have more depth than any character in FF7R. Doing that for every character would have taken too many hours.
Anyways why would we want the same combat as FF7R when we already have FF7R and Rebirth also coming.
Also I am not sure about you, but what I find exciting about a character is their personally and character development. I have played many RPGs with multiple playable characters who had terrible character development, and I didn’t really care if they died a horrible death in the game.
So for me a
better written unplayable character > a poorly written playable character

I didn’t know that combat was the only thing that made Final Fantasy what it is and something that has been changing over the years.
Perhaps Square shouldn’t include any of the staples in the series like enemies, summons, chocobos, moogles, crystals, spells etc since only the combat is what made it what it is.

So far it looks like a generic hack'n slash. Nothing wrong with hack'n slashes, I love them, but Final Fantasy used to be something else a long time ago. They should have stuck with FF7R's battle system, there's no need to try and reinvent the wheel every single time. Also, dialogue is really basic. I'm not impressed but I don't hate it.
This is such a funny comment because when FF7R's combat was announced people made comments about FF7R's combat the same way lol. History repeating itself.

I wouldn’t go that far I mean FFXII was basically an auto battler, and FFXIII while not as braindead as FFXII could still be used in such a manner though you wouldn’t be getting 5 stars in battles since the AI isn’t very good at optimizing.
