Nice thing about Syn Gates is his solos are not just shredding. They are melodic and suit the song. Thats how i judge a solo. Had to be melodic almost like a song within the song. If you listen to almost any Randy Rhoades song, the solos are almost always like that. Which is why to me, he is still a guitar god still.

This is definitely a rockable instrument. I've liked
Schecter's since I first saw Pete Townshend with them back in 1981 or so. I think the guitar is ULTRA ugly...but, boy, is it built!! The construction is so good that it even sounds tight. Nice trade. This will be a good utility guitar for somebody.

Sounds incredible. My 2nd one I just got 2 months ago, is a 2010 custom in the white with gold stripes color scheme. It had the same Seymore Duncan Invader pickups, sh-8b at the bridge and sh-8n at the neck

So I have a Schecter S1 Elite like what Zachy Vengence plays. The story about acquiring the guitar was a friend had it and I played it and was impressed with how well it played. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a shot at it. I ended up buying it a year later. I thought it was a C1 Hellraiser but when I got it I remembered how well it feels and bought it. I ended up keeping it and moved the strap button on the back where an SG has it. I changed the black speed knobs to Tele style gun metal grey knobs.
The pickups are SD Designed but since they have Alnico V magnets they sound great with D'Addario NYXLs. I will upgrade the pots and electrics but the pickups actually sound nice enough to keep.
For my playing, Schecters are great choices for an inbetween a Epiphone and Gibson. The scale length on different variations can fluctuate too. Mine has a 25.5 inch scale but the newer swamp ash models have 24.75 inch scales. Overall these are great guitars. My S1 Elite stands in for an SG with more body. My prototype Ltd Viper 400 is my Les Paul stand in! They just re-released it with a different finish and fingerboard.

Hey Austin, for your future knowledge regarding a Floyd Rose and changing the strings - I have a little experience with one, enough to know I don't want another one lol, and the first thing I found out is that you are not supposed to do exactly what you did. Prior to removing the strings block the back of the tremolo unit so it that it doesn't dive into the body once the strings are no longer keeping it up. Prior to messing with the one on my Jackson I watched a ton of video's of guys I trust and everyone of them said the same thing, block that unit before loosening those strings! Most of them said to block the unit, remove, replace and tune in the low E first. Then do the high E second and then the D third. At that time you can remove the block since you have 3 strings keeping the unit level. Also, changing strings on one is not difficult. If your style, which most are, is the kind you remove the ball end of the string, just snip off the ball right at the point where the string is wound over itself, about a half inch in front of the ball. Loosen the string retaining screw, you will see the little saddle that is pressed against the string with the adjusting screw. Slip the old string out, slip the new one back in and then tighten that screw, but you don't really get after the screw, just tighten it enough the screw doesn't move, basically if you have to really grip your screwdriver to turn it anymore, you're too tight. Tighten the screw up and then the rest is normal. As for the locking nut, the advice varied from only loosen the one you are working on to loosen them all so I guess that's not as critical as the tremolo unit itself. Just thought I would throw this out to you in case you get another one in or maybe someone else is needing some help with one. My best advice is to not own one lol..

I am glad that the young man got the bass and I think it's really cool he is into the vintage stuff!! It's funny because I was considering buying that bass or trading something for it for basically the same reason as him, the vintage aspect. Some of the comments have said you got the better deal, money wise that may be true, but I think you both made out pretty good! Now you have to be watchful for a really good trade and should be on your way to the final goal!
Hmm that grey edge sure looked like perhaps there was a maple cap on that guitar and that's why the black appeared grey. It's a cool looking guitar and I am amazed at the weight of it! It seems to me that most shredders are wimps and need those tiny light weight body guitars to play, but this thing is built for a man to play lol.

Thanks. Bass taught me the importance of keeping time and serving the song overall than flashy playing.
On guitar I am a pretty fierce rhythm player with an emphasis on a solid and dirty tones. Think of the Clash, Stiff Little Fingers and Social Distortion. With bass I started heading more towards post punk, reggae, 80s alternative to counter the banshee type of tone with beautiful depth, like diving into a beautiful lagoon. Think of the album "The Bends" by Radiohead. Now drop in Joy Division and Bob Marly and the Wailers. Damn near opposite but complementary towards the rude tones of guitars. As a bass player I usually use a pick if I am playing quarter notes, eighth notes or sixteenth notes. For half notes or whole notes I switch to fingers or my thumb.
One thing I can't stand is popping and slapping. I have to explain to the bass player that he is not Bootsy Collins, Flea, or Les Claypool. Less is more.
I also used pedals for a short time and got a pretty cool sound. I would run a Grunge Bass into a Danecho and then into a Bass Chorus. If you listen to Moby's cover of "New Dawn Fades" by Joy Division, it pretty much nails that. Also a Swedish/Finnish band called Kent has great bass tone. You can swim in that tone...check out any song off the album "Isola." Great stuff!

I like your show, watch every episode. You should give the kid his guitar back let him keep that junk bass. Maybe he can sell the gates guitar for a playable bass. I think he may be a little green and was taken advantage of.

Floyd Rose type guitars are just common sense to set up really. not too hard if you really think about it.... Changing a string at a time makes it easier if your unfamiliar to them

    • @Wargasm644

I’m glad there are so many Floyd haters. I can always score good deals because people are too dumb to know how to set em up. I guarantee you that’s why trogly was able to get over on that poor kid.

I swear those locking nuts are junk. Iv owned 2 floyd guitars and i managed to strip the inside of the bolt head on both. Does anyone have any ideas for how to unscrew them enough to replace them? I was considering pliers. I had it in drop C tuning for like 5 years and decided randomly one day to put it back in drop D only to strip the damn allen key head without even realizing it 😢
