I really like the Milton guitar. Is that your own build? I'm always impressed how you are able to come up with fresh content. Thank you and stay healthy!
Thank you buddy. Yes the Milton is a one of three prototype guitars I began developing as an alternate for people to buy instead of Chinese fakes. However that was before I discovered Harley Benton and glarry and very cheap alternatives to recommend. Now I just have 6 super tele style guitars but I do love playing bluey 😊👍🙏 The pickups are algree chameleon and I have 48 combinations of tone. Mostly I use the p90 style settings and the hb sc junior sounds great for that too. I'm so glad you like the content mate and glad you are a regular 😊👍🙏
Like you said bro, its all about context. Would I use a pocket pod at a live gig? Possibly not, although i reckon it would be doable, but it's perfect for practising in confined spaces or when you don't want to disturb the neighbours
vocals very David Essex meets Pete Townsend.. not as bad as you think. Have you ever tried the Zoom MS series? I have a Zoom MS60-B, MS50-G and a G10N (never got the bass version). The MS's are more stomp boxy but the G1/B1 series has a headphone/line out, looper and drum machine (Quite cheap too).
@@Chinaguitarsceptic TheG10N is pretty much the MS50G in a plastic case but with the added looper and a basic drum machine. The sounds are pretty good - amp sims, pedal sims I still have the MS 60B, 50G and have the G1ON for my lad (though he is just starting to learn guitar (he's too small for a bass.. lol). He plays one of the HB 3/4 size ibanez copies.
I really like this thing. It's a bit bass-heavy, but it works. I have such an easier time fitting guitars in the mix with this than with any of my other stuff, Katana included. It's a bit hissy with high gain, but then so is everything else.
You have any thoughts about the Postive Grid - Spark? i want something that can do all kinds of sounds easy. Basicly search for a song and then have the sound of the guitar, the spark seems to have that. (and yes metal tones)
From another video on the POD Go. Use cases for one of these devices. 1. Practicing at home 2. Recording both at home and in the studio 3. Rehearsing with a band 4. Playing live shows My thoughts on the Pocket POD based on that criteria: 1. Definitely a winner here, but professionals will have something better, and there are a lot of cheaper devices for amateurs that are better for the other cases in that price range. 2. No direct recording via USB, so for the budget crowd you need to spend another $150 for a decent analog to USB device, or just buy a better suited modeling device in the first place. Definitely not up to stuff you'd find in a professional studio. 3. How much time do you want to spend switching profiles between songs during practice? You can't even attach a foot switch to change profiles to do a solo can you? 4. Pretty sure I'd want a foot switch here.
@@Chinaguitarsceptic it's well suited for that! There are cheaper devices that work pretty well, but nothing matches the number of presets/models in it's price range.
For starters... can I haz your autograph? Sounded great Mike! I agree that in the mix I don’t hear any issues. Show us more! If Ola would have just completed his sentence with “for what I do” then that would have resolved it but I have to say I don’t agree with him since he didn’t. Thanks and be well!
Lol. Cheers brother! You put a huge smile on my face - again! You're a good friend. Yes I think to be fair to ola, his video was entirely focused on using it for metal and I have to agree with him that the high gain tones are much less useable than mid gain and clean ones. Have a lovely weekend my friend and stay safe. 😊👍🙏😂
Very good Mike. That Pocket POD does seem to hold up well in context of what it's used for. Sounds pretty good in a mix. Oh and there's many people made careers on MUCH worse singing than that too. You can tell though from your posture when singing it's not something you're comfortable with. Definitely would like to see more with the Pocket POD
Haha! Not just yet. I'm going to do a series on small home recording set up and I'm hoping to record an album, but don't worry I have guest singer (s) 😂😂😂
I bought a Pocket Pod about 10 years ago and still use it occasionally. Some of the sounds are pretty good. I feel it hits its sweet spot with low to medium gain. Turn to a high gain setting and it sounds a bit like a guitar banging around in a metal can. But it's a handy tool for practicing in the middle of the night. I live in a condo and it's half-way decent silent practicing. Listening to this track, I wouldn't use the Pocket Pod for tracking. It's OK for the flat broke musician but you have better sound equipment. I don't feel the Pocket Pod does justice to the instruments. Just my opinion.
Yes you are spot on and I would of course prefer to use my Axe FXIII but I think it sounds passable in a mix.The mid-gain is the sweet spot for sure as you say! Not that I would take it over the Axe or better yet a real amp in the studio. Cheers my friend :-)
Sounds good. To me, if you’re a talented musician, you make the best of whatever you’ve got (like using back line rigs that aren’t ideal) and you sir, are a talented musician. Like you say its context. Metal vs Rock. In a mix or on its own. There is also the difference between being a professional touring musician and what they want for their sound and an audience member listening to a mix. I also know that for some people, if its not the 'best', anything else is just rubbish, not good enough. You see it with all gear too - a Harley Benton may not sound or feel quite as good as a guitar costing 5x as much or more - so its 'rubbish' to some but for others, its very function and a bargain at the price so fantastic. Could you have got a better sound with a valve amp and pedal board - probably but whether the audience knows or cares is a different matter. I think it sounded good - especially without hearing it compared to your Axe FX or a high end analogue rig...
Nice review! I highly disagree with Ola's review. I second everything he said about the user interface. It is plain terrible. However, for some reason his device sounds more digital and lifeless than it actually is. I think the weird signal he gets once in 10 seconds has something to do with it and it is related to the firmware version it has. I remember I had to go through a major firmware update to get rid of the buzz and cabinet issues about 8-9 years ago. The bottom line, it should sound almost identical to his Pod 2.0 - but now I just noticed in his video that his device is using firmware 1.0 which was terrible.
