I’ve owned 11 Toyota’s. All models. Not had a single problem with any of them! Bombproof engines & electronics. I can guarantee that it will always start up first time every time.
*And then the bomb which was supposed to blow up the Toyota ships itself back to the person who detonated it. The one who wanted to kill an innocent little car only commited suicide all along. The end* Not being dark, but that's how durable Toyotas are!
I find it weird that people who do not own a Toyota and don't like Toyota in general are expert in Toyota problems while I've been through two Toyota diesels without any single issue.
One of the most reliable cars especially with the petrol engine, who cares if it doesn't fell as "sporty", it will be troublefree for years when VW and other rivals have expensive issues. Why on earth do you recommend the diesel, because of 100 less tax per year that's nothing...
The worst thing Toyota ever did was to kill off the "hatchback" version of the Avensis. The saloon is impractical and not everyone wants to drive around in an estate.
A RUclips Commenter Don't generalise. Europe makes the best cars of the world. The problem is the way the market is manipulated in the detriment of the consumer, profits. I am european and I stand well away from BMW, VW, and LAND ROVER.
It's also a completely different market. You have to remember that the original Mini was considered dead reliable until it came to the U.S. where it blew engines left and right from trying to do 75 mph all day long. Japanese cars have a long history of rusting. Even as recently as 2007-8 Mazdas were turning to colanders after a bit too much road salt so it's unfair to say that they don't have their own issues as well. I'd say that an extra few grand servicing a Volvo or Volkswagen is not a big deal in the long run just to have a nicer car than the Avensis anyway. Why spend time in the purgatory of a Toyota when you can stretch your budget a bit for a nice Audi or Benz, assuming it's logical? I call that living to potential, not proud and impractical.
The problem with buying a diesel in the UK these days is that while it's currently cheap, the government keep making noises about punishing these cars. I'd personally never get another diesel and I don't see the problem going away.
Socialists want to punish all car owners so no matter what you buy they will be attacking. If everybody went out and bought the electric cars that keep harping on about they would be then looking to put extra taxes on them because the paint and batteries are bad for the environment.
@@bighands69 The problem with your claim is that there haven't been Socialists in power in Britain since the 1970's! You remember? The days when we had the best healthcare system in the world; when there were no homeless on the streets, and no one needed foodbanks?

I'm planning on buying a reliable and comfortable car that I could take on long road trips, and so far something like this looks quite attractive and seems to fit my budget.
Damn, I was going to buy this car, but not now as the water bottle is in the way of the gear stick! Oh, it's OK, I've just thought. I'LL PUT IT SOMEWHERE ELSE OR HAVE A SMALLER BOTTLE !!!!!!! What a stupid review! Why are all the press so negative about the Avensis? Boring is not a reason to hate a car, an estate is for carrying stuff, not racing down back roads.
1:22 "Pleanty of room here" and at the same time her legs are in a strange angle with knees stuffed into the front seat...... these "reviews" are clearly biased!
suspisious why toyota does not offer a hybrid for the avensis....the interior is boring, the passat is emotional compared to that avensis...and u know what that means?
I've never understood why car reviewers devote so much attention to boot/trunk space. Any time I use my car's trunk, it is to carry small amounts of cargo. Maybe some groceries and occasionally a gym bag. Maybe once in a year or two I might notice a lack of cargo space because I need to carry suitcases to the airport, in which case I just call a taxi for that one ocassion. But generally speaking, my cargo space is very far down my list of deal-breakers for a car. Can you imagine if they made a car with normal wheel base length that had a super itty bitty boot for carrying grocieries, and the rest of the space (possibly an extra 2 feet) was converted into interior cabin space? It would be like having a limosine for the price of a cheap entry level car, that also was easy to drive. It would be awersome. Interior space and especially backseat relax factor is something that impacts the quality of my drive and any friends/family with me in the car. I don't care about trunk space. Every car reviewer loves it though. I guess its because trunk space is easily quantifiable, but I find it hard to believe that every car driver cares about trunk space. Very strange! Love Carbuyer by the way
I bought a new avensis yesterday an believe it or not it was a choice between this or a new E class. Using it as a taxi. The warranty and reliability sold it for me. Merc sadly just isn't as reliable.
Adam's Vendetta the tata nano is cheep, spartan and dangerous but at least you could have a conversation about it, something I can't imagine anyone would want to do with the Avensis
1.8 petrol version, car tax ... ".... a hefty £130.....". Uh, what? Oh, come on. £120 a year in amongst all the other costs of running a car... is an absolute pinprick.

My dad has one of these and it's the absolute worst! Very uncomfortable, the leather seats are quite rigid and in a long trip you'll feel pain. The suspension is very stiff and doesn't absorb impacts at all, you'll feel every bit of the road. The interior is not well built, with plastics (the door handles mainly) screeching all over the place. Some plastics feel cheap and scratch very easily, although the materials on the dash and door panels are mostly soft to the touch.. The satnav system is slow to use and buggy, whenever you use the USB it will start making noise and at some point zapping through all the media options. The speakers (the standard set) are awful, lacking bass (even my mom's 2000 Polo has a better stereo even though it only has 2 speakers). My dad had the previous generation of this estate and although the materials were not as good and the satnav had the same issues, I can tell you right away it was way more comfortable, the suspension was much better at absorbing impacts and the seats (leather and alcantara) were comfy. The engine wasn't as powerful though, even though both of them are 2-litre diesels (the previous was built by Toyota themselves while the new one comes from BMW). If you have the previous generation stick to it!
Toyota UK (and european) models are mostly boring, bland, ugly and sluggish. I wonder why they don't bring much better models that they sell around the world.
....I just think if this is the best choice for your money you've kind of given up really. Boring. You can do better AND enjoy the car experience more.
That's a total rating. Just look at the dummy, its yellow and orange on frontal impact. Something like this we should not have on new cars. Even the Corolla did better.
At 0:17 you can see the frame above drivers head deforming. Japanese cars are going down the drain, this car was build especially for the ncap. At higher speed it would offer less protection. You can compare the crash test with a Kia Optima to see how a proper build car crash looks like.
Take it from me, I made the mistake of buying a 2016 Mazda 6 touring with a 2.2L diesel engine, car is useless in the city (can't go over a speed bump without scraping the underside) dangerous on the freeway as blown around by most vehicles, poor MPG, door mirrors that you have to fold in before exiting the car. I have got rid of it and brought a 2016 2.0L diesel Passat estate, vastly superior in every imaginable aspect.
Max, I paid cash for a Mazda 6 tourer and it was crap, plastic interior and a weak engine. The head unit was ok but the stuck on tablet type screen was poor. The residuals was not that great either. The mistake I made was listening to all the RUclips videos singing this cars praise. Agreed, the Passat is slightly more expensive than the Mazda but in three years time when I go to sell the vehicle on I will more than make that money back. Yes the Passat at first glance seems boring that's why I never considered it in my initial pick of car, that was my mistake.
