    That's a really eye-catching AZ2204F!
Big respect to session players, having to have such a big collection of references inside of their heads, to be able to draw from them, be inspired by them and play in the heat of moment, when the red light is on. Would love to hear more about your session stories, and maybe draw some inspiration from them. 😀
As for me, guess I'll just stay in my lane as a meagre bedroom guitarist, and do guitar covers of my favorite tunes and write the occasional original pieces. 😂

Ben, I love your sounds and suggestions. Been playing coming up on 2 years. Wavering on jumping into your masterclasses, but am already signed up to some. I have found that while videos are great to learn from, they aren't the best medium to practice from. My main problem is that since videos are time-based, they take too long to use as a basis for practice. The fallbacks are tabs and music staff notation, which I'm not very fluent in either. Any suggestions for practice tools or strategies? (ie. where I don't have to re-watch an entire video per lesson)

Hi Vince, thanks so much for watching and for your support. If you're signed up for my masterclasses at www.bensguitarclub.com you can slow all of the videos down to 50% speed, which can be really helpful in practicing the material at a slower pace. This can also be really helpful when you're learning a new concept. Hope that helps, and thanks again!

"Dog Eat Dog" by Joni Mitchell….! I am glad you mentioned the Joni Mitchell recordings in 80s… As you mentioned, Michael Landau plays the beautiful his signature rhythm guitars including the clean swell sounds.
I know that this was somehow a controversial album(produced by Thomas Dolby) among the core Joni’s fans, but this is the first Joni’s record I heard and still one of my favorite albums of her.... Plus, do not forget “The Night of Van Gogh” by Boz Scaggs.. By the way, mouth-watering tone and melody from you..!!

So glad you mentioned "Dog Eat Dog" - this and "Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm" are my favorite Joni albums, and both feature Landau heavily. I'm certainly aware of the controversy surrounding "Dog Eat Dog", but I think it's absolutely one of Joni's best albums. Perhaps for some, it was just too far away from the "Blue"-era Joni that most people consider to be her classic sound, but I love everything about it. Thanks for watching!

I've been hired for quite a few gigs (live in my case, with covers bands; not recording sessions) where bands have needed someone who can step in quickly. My forte has been a reasonable knowledge of hit songs going back decades, coupled with an ability to improvise. In this way, I can busk with pretty much any covers band and the audience is none the wiser. Occasionally there's a need to learn some specific riffs etc., in which case a bit of rehearsal is required. I don't read music or tab though (probably could; never bothered to learn), so I wouldn't be hired for any gig where these were needed. Proper session guitarists can read, and that sets them apart from people like me, so depending on how far you want to take your musical career, I'd say learning to read music is probably a very good idea!
Another point is: get out of the bedroom and play as many gigs as possible. That's what I did, and is how I built a network of contacts who could call me when the need arose.

I really appreciate your videos. I feel sad now because I’m struggling, I cannot make a living with music, and I’ve lost the opotunity of spending a lot of time practicing when I had more time to do so. I would like to feel that despite having a day job, I can still get amazingly better at guitar, practice the famous 10000 hours and even more, and may be some day quit the day job and pursue music as a full time career

@@beneunson I appreciate your words man, you are one of my heroes, but I don’t know… I hate feeling this way, I’m 26 but I feel like I’ll never have the option to go full time into it, nor the oportunity to be a superb player like you are, or like any of our musical heroes and admired masters… I feel like there is no time left in this life, and right now I don’t have either the will power

Get out gigging. Network with people who might hire you. If you're good enough, and right for their project, they'll call you.
