The Second Coming is one of the most underrated albums ever. Try Good Times, Tightrope, Driving South, Begging You... in fact, just play the whole album.
After all these years I still think the first album is better but it's totally underated and this song is killer. I remember waiting so long thinking the second coming was never going to drop.
Critics slagged 'The Second Coming' when it came out...I dug it then, and still do now. If you dont like stuff...well, as I'm fond of saying - 'Sucks to be you' :)
This album is outstanding - it only suffers because the previous was one of the best ever. As a huge Led Zep fan I loved the changes they made. I'm a fan of Ian Brown, but just imagine Robert Plant vocals on this track. The production sounds very Jimmy Page as well.
I remember this was an outstanding instant hit for me from that album. I think the Second Coming album is great, in many ways it is better than the first. What I always said about it is that overall it may not be quite as good as a whole album, but the high points are higher, if that makes sense.
Damn! I forgot how good that one is,. I don't get it how people didn't like it. I loved this whole album when it came out. Led Zeppelin would have killed for this one. This would have fit right into the Houses of the Holy album. I'm still proud to say I got see them live back in the day. Ian's vocals at the end sounds so much like Liam's , and we know who came first. Totally enjoyed this one!
Great to have new content from you today. Great way to start the week. Your description of listening to the whole album and identifying the songs you liked the most made me long for the past of musical discovery. Sitting down with an album, listening to every track and reading the lyrics printed on the sleeve.
Bought Second Coming when it was first released and it sounds better today than it ever did. Such an underrated album with some fine tracks. Good Times is another belter! Thanks for another great reaction!
Love the track, love the reaction as always Greg, you can't really go wrong with The Roses, they only recorded about 40 songs their whole time together and i personally think about 35 of them are just about perfection. Remember the 3rd album Greg! its made up of non-album tracks and b-sides and is as good as their 'official' 2 albums, its called 'Turns into Stone' and most bands would kill to have some of the songs The Roses put out as b-sides back in the day. 2 Roses b-side tracks i would recommend are 'Standing Here' and 'Where Angels Play'. Keep on keeping on.
I think that critics and the public were expecting more of the same from them but it had been 5 years and they had grown as a band and very obviously been influenced by different music, especially John Squire. Listening to the album now is a different experience as I think you can appreciate it more. You should try 'good times' from the album my favourite.
It’s kind of buried away at the end of the LP, but I think it’s one of their top 5 tracks, it’s absolutely sublime and I remember thinking exactly that in 94 when they released it to an underwhelming reaction, which was due to many factors already mentioned in the comments, along with the fact that they snubbed the mainstream media and gave their comeback interview exclusively to a magazine dedicated to the homeless, sold by homeless people, ‘the big issue’. I don’t think that played well with the big music publications.
Trivia: A "Danger Mouse" animator was The Stone Roses guitarist John Squire, between 1981 and 1992. American musician & producer Danger Mouse chose his stage name as a reference the show, initially performing in a mouse costume. In the 1989 film The BFG, which was also produced by Cosgrove-Hall, a Danger Mouse poster is shown above a boy's bed. South Park (2008): In the video, Danger Mouse is in Imaginationland. As always above info from Wikipedia.
The flaw with this album is that Brown just didn't have the vocals to match the music. His voice went well with the more indie sounding music on the debut album.
I think he's refering to smack, could be wrong but having grown up in the north west of England at this time and enjoyed the whole madchester thing could well be . Think most of them r drug referencing. Mersey Paradise is defo another one. Hope this helps and doesn't put you off Ps tears is my favourite by the roses loved watching you hear it for the first time thanks for sharing your experience.
Great choice for a comeback reaction. I'm 90% indie/rock too but for something different you really need to hear Lana Del Rey's newer stuff: Happiness is a Butterfly: ruclips.net/video/p1LLKISvRds/видео.html
One of my favourite songs of all time. Brings me so much joy to see someone react to this and react how I did when I first listened to it! The second coming is hugely underrated, John Squire is just on fire. I prefer their debut but songs like tears on the second coming just prove how great ur is.
Took me right back to my childhood. Awesome tune.

What a tune. Underrated album

This is actually my favourite Stone Roses song 😂. Just love the guitar.
Epic song... squire is unbelievable
Probably the album I’ve listened to more than any other in my life. I love your reactions and love for The Stone Roses!
Thank you for the kind words, Grant. Means a lot!
I don't care what anyone says, I loved this album so much. Yeah its different from the 1st release - so what
one of my fave stone roses track along with mersey paradise and driving south

💖Stone Roses - Doing GREAT solo Greg!!! So good to see you back🤩
Glad to be back, Claire . . . especially now that you've commented! 🤩
@@intothemusic908 🥳👌X
Arguably my favourite track of all time!!!!! Great way to start your solo reactions👍
Thanks!
Nice roses choice- where angels play is top too.More happy mondays off the early ep's album is a must!

Thanks! I do have some more Roses stuff coming up the road, including some from that 3rd album.
It’s a shame you’ve gone solo , I enjoyed your rapport . Amazing track 🤘🏻
I’ve seen the future in the tracks of your tears. Great words by squire.
Another good choice Greg and a fab reaction. Stone Roses encapsulate the '90s for me
Very good review. Keep it up!
Glad you liked it!
Love the reaction Greg. Need to do “Breaking Into Heaven” next! Squire’s solo in that is electric
Thanks. On my list.👍
Spot on squire is again so good on that track
Seconded, and also tightrope.
@@davidl9771 Agreed. Tightrope shows how good they really were

They’ve already done Good Times
Good to see you back Greg. Some good ones coming on I see 👍
Thanks, Steve. More to come!

Greg, would very much like to hear you react to the Verve once again, Life's An Ocean (Later with Jools Holland)
Happy to have you back. I would suggest a reaction to Grace or Mojo Pin by the inimitable Jeff Buckley, such a great voice
Crimson tonight
Back with a bang greg, some great reactions to start with. If not on your list try cast sandstorm would definitely be one you would enjoy.
Thank you, Colonel! Glad to be back. And thanks for the tip!
One of there best for sure! In America at least, best band you never heard or paid attention to..
Unfortunately true for many Americans. Lucky I'm not one.

Pretty sure it's a flute sound on an organ, played in reverse,
Reaction to Suede - Breakdown

Perhaps through most of the album. But I do think his vocals are strong enough here on this track.
Oi Greg, you promised me the first choice for your next reaction. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Glad you enjoyed. And, you might be right with the drug reference. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for commenting, Louis. Such a great song. - Greg
Try star sailor
This whole album is a cocaine-fuelled attempt to copy Led Zeppelin, but they do it so well I can't be mad at them..
