Just stumbled across this because I'm looking at Chronometers recently and discovered this beauty from Ulysse Nardin. Nice overview. I'm hoping I find lug-to-lug measurements for their 41 and 43mm versions of this marine chronometer.
It's great to see some reviews done outdoors, lovely day for it! The sunlight really brings out the detail of the dials that the indoor shots don't seem to capture. Would love to see some close ups of your azzurro 1521 out in the sunshine!
I had the original version of the UN Marine Chronometer (then called the 1846) years ago, and I sold it because I was just never happy with the 38mm size. My goal to go after the next generation Maxi Marine model which is 41mm but got caught up in other brands for a while (like Seiko, no thanks to you!! :-)) Watching this video has jump started that plan again for me. Great job as usual, Tristano.
I need to check out that museum next time I'm in NYC. Interesting about the Rolex Explorer I, because Don Draper also wore an Omega Seamster De Ville for most of that show. Speaking of Omega that rustic brown strap really compliments your Speedy. Great video once again, keep up the good work!
Jonathan Ellard Hi Jonathan, its an amazing museum, I totally recommend it, such a shame I could not film inside as it was amazing, not just their collections/exhibits but architecturally too. As for the madmen Omega, yes!!! I LOVE THAT OME, maybe even more then the Rollie (shhhh!!!) but sadly they didn't have it. I think the switch happens in the last season as the show transitions into that era of watches. Great comment, thank you for the kind words as always, Best regards, TGV P.s. New video just up! ;-)
Hi TGV, thank you very much for another great video. I was really thrilled to see you reviewing an UN! The watch looks really solid and well build. Nice details as well! I think it would look even better with a black dial and a polished bracelet. Anyway, thanks again and take care. Cheers!
Lippo187 Mmmmm Black dial UN, now theres an idea! You have got me curious too. I loved the blue but the black must look stunning too. Great comment as always, Thank you. Best regards, TGV
Amazing video, TGV! Really loved that UN. I'm a big fan of the blue dials as well. This mix of rubber strap with steel reminds me of one of my pieces, the Tissot T-Race Blue (1st version); the color, material and clasp looks the same. Keep up with the great job and I'll leave an embrance. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. :)
Divano Amorim Silva Viewers in Brazil! Very cool! Wow that T-race is very different, not the Tissot I am used to seeing. Great watch brand. Thank you for the kid words and sharing your comment. Best regards, TGV
Even though I'm a fan of Sinn watches, for some reason I don't care for the U1... is not a bad looking watch, it's just not for me. The Ulysse Nardin is stunning... A master piece! Great vid as always.
Hey TGV, I'm the kid who was deciding between the two omegas, thanks for your advice. I did in fact choose the seamaster professional:) I'm going to get it next week, I am now going to start saving up for a used Rolex explorer 2!:). Do you think it's a good idea?! Thank you.
Mad Men is awesome, on series 4. Last episode in series 3 when they started up they're own agency was amazing and Roy Orbison at the end, Shaaaaaadarobaaaaa.
JoshD1001 I have to agree with you, Mad Men is great! I have yet to see the last season, all good thing come to an end I guess. Great comment, thank you. Best regards, TGV
Bellissimo video Tristano! ;-) What a lovely Museum you have just a couple of blocks away from you... :-) I love both Ulysse Nardin & Sinn brands. I have both of them in my collection and I have to confirm all the possible best about their qualities... kind regards my friend.
I must say the Ulysse looked pretty damn good on your wrist. I did not think it'd look that good while you were reviewing it. Incase you were wondering why I'm so excited about this, It's because I too have tiny wrists lol, this is proof a watch isn't automatically crossed off for being 42+mm. As always great video.
Ethiopianraver Thank you ER! Excellent point, great comment. Gald to hear I am not alone with skinny wrists. The Hamilton X-patrol is another 42mm big watch that one how works very well on me, the Squale 1521 at 42mm is another good example. I think its a sign of a good design don't you think? Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry Definitely, a great design shouldn't have any one feature out shadow or be "louder" than others. The various aspects of the design should compliment each other to create something significantly more than just the sum of the parts. Which is, in essence, a watch is.
how would you compare the ulysse nardin with the omega seamaster master coaxial in titanium (blue dial)? I think both are competing for the dressy dive watch spot in a collection, and I must admit I'm very tempted by both.
Farah Nasr Hello, Thank you for the comment. Great question, a tough one too. I would lean towards the UN, don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Omega, but I feel this UN is something very different and unique. I would also say the quality of UN is superior to that of the average Omega Seamaster. Please let me know what you decide, always interested to hear. Best regards, TGV
All I can say is Wow. That UN is incredible. That blue, with the sunburst... Just wow. I don't recall was that the 44mm? Either way it looked very nice on the wrist, I think short lugs help. Plus the roman numerals and I love that magnification window. Although as much as I appreciate it, I don't think its watch for me. Have you seen the U1's with the black bezel. Now those...
Great review TGV!! Speedy looking cool on that strap you were sporting. Great Sinn considerations and a undestructable beast of a watch! However the UN stole the show, somehow it blends a vintage style face into a sheer classy case. Although you can see some Breguet in that case design it still manages to remain identifiable as a UN! Have had more than an itch to buy one but have not had the guts! Ciao. Jp
Jeremy Pitotti Thank you JP!!! Always love your comments. I agree completely, the UN was the without a doubt the star here, even against Don Draper's Explorer 1! Great comment, if you pull the trigger on the UN please let me know. Based on this first encounter and I had the spare cash I would find it hard to say no. Best regards, TGV
It's crazy to think how many things there are very near to us that we haven't yet discovered. There are several museums in the Tampa area we still have to make our way to. The challenge is finding a sitter! LOVE these pieces, my favorite was actually the UN, stunning really and so much to admire when you look down at your wrist.
Amateur Watch Collector CG, you should go and take the kids. My mum used to take me every weekend to a different museum when I was a child growing up in London. It was a massive influence on me as it got me to appreciate so many things from History, Science, Art etc... so much better then any book or TV documentary could teach me. Looking back I was extremely lucky as London has many of the first and best museums in the world, but I can't stress how crucial it was and shaping my understanding of this big bad crazy world at a very young age. Anyways, I had a feeling you would like the UN, I could see you with one of these, maybe the black version? Just a shame they are so damn expensive. Out of curiosity, if you got a watch at this price range, what would you go for? Rollie? Omega? Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry I may give it a go with them. We take them to pretty much every place that we can find, including children's and science museums that are a bit more interactive in nature, which makes it a more enjoyable experience everyone. I have to agree that London has arguably some of the best museums in Europe and the history is part of what I really enjoyed while living there. I think I would love the black version of the UN! The watch I'm looking to purchase around the holidays might actually be the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra co-axial chronograph GMT with the gray dial...it is incredible, but the size is pretty big! I will be making my way to an AD to try this on very soon! A Rollie is on the list, but these Omega Chrono's have me smitten at the moment.
They just showed the new James Bond trailer ad before your video. Awesome! I think the baddie was wearing Persol sunglasses too. That Sin looks like a brute of a watch, a tank. Outdoor semi review, awesome Guv!
Stewart Craig Haha FANTASTIC! I fell kid of honoured even thought I know its got nothing to do with me and just coincidence. Hows it look? Have yet to see it myself. I saw they were filming in some really cool places, LOVE the franchise these days, the awful late 90s/ early 00s seems so long ago. Of course Persol! I am sure they studied my channel closely researching the villains ;-) Anyways, as always, thank you for the kind words. Hows the wee lad and family doing? Best regards, TGV
The boy and the familiar are good. The new Bond looks epic and toy can't go wrong with Monica Bellucci and my new favourite that girl out of Blue is the warmest colour.
Excellent review. Both the Sinn U1 and the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer, are interesting unusual watches. Great German build quality on the Sinn U1, not sure about the “Lego” hands I prefer the hands on the Sinn T2 - 1015.010. The UN Marine Chronometer is pure class, Roman numerals and nautical styling make it an exceptional watch.
lombady banker Ciao LB! Thank you. Yes the Lego hands are a divisive topic, I must say I think they are great fun. I am very curious to see a midsize version. The T2 is stunning!!! I will have to agree as I prefer those hands too, well spotted, cheers for sharing that. Best regards, TGV
Do you know if the UN is compatible with a NATO strap? Such a beautiful watch and I'm going to be getting the carbon 41mm version but I'm afraid to cut the rubber strap to fit and would prefer to just change it out. Thanks
Excellent production and analysis of both watches, whilst presenting you Speedy was trying to steal the show with tha lovely leather strap. I digress. The UN aesthetically appears more superior to the Sinn as a rabbit is to a rat, the UN displays a better design. The Sinn fails to convince me in all aspect but primarily on design and size, in my considered opinion the UN beats it conclusively. On the flip side the Sinn appears more durable. Pls keep up your excellent work.
Hello Mike, this is your future self. To answer your question the answer is the U200. Unfortunately I think you will find it a bit too small and it's thickness just makes it look really odd. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the advice TGV, oh you now have me looking at junghans, fantastic time pieces and may be the dress watch i need. May be time to part with some more of my hard earned money and why not :-) !
Aww man, 2001 and Tron? I might have to find my way up to New York some of these days. A question, is there any advantage over straps? I have straps of all variations, all comfortable, but is any one of them better than the other? Particularly curious of a rubber strap vs a metal link band in a diver watch. As always, another great video TGV!
Shawn T Hi Shawn, Thanks for the comment and kind words. GREAT question btw, I think I will have to address this in the next strap video which should be soon as I will want to prepare some fall options for my fellow wrist watch connoisseur. In the meantime, I have to say, rubber is extremely useful, especially the higher end types of rubber for a diver, check this video out... ruclips.net/video/e1camFx-ep0S/видео.htmltay tuned my friend. Best regards, TGV
Stunning Ulysse Nardin I love it ..love the U1 but its just a tool watch at the end of a day and Nardin is so much more sophisticated and appealing to me :) I love them dressy :)
EDC Gunner haha Nice one! I got to agree with you there. In many ways the U1 is the ultimate tool watch, the fact this one has been used unsparingly for 3 years and has not got one scratch is undeniable proof. But, like you, I would take the UN if I had to choose between these two bad boys. Thanks for the comment EDCG, always appreciated, especially from such a quality you tuber as yourself. Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV, Can I just say I love your channel by far the best I've seen, I am new to the watch collection scene and started my collection with an omega seamaster 300m ceramic in blue which I adore ! Following your review I have added a squale 1521 black with polished steel. I need your advice although the polished steel is nice I would prefer a brushed finish, any ideas where I could have this work carried out ? Or would it be cheaper to sell and purchase the satinato version ? Keep up the good work with the channel always look forward to your new vids
78Carpo Thank you so much! very kind of you to say indeed. Congrats on the Ceramic Seamaster, excellent choice, WOW a Squale 1521 too!!! Fantastic. I would advise to sell it and buy a new one satinato, any work outside of the Warranty will lower its value, plus the cases are done so well by Squale, it will never compare to the new/real thing. Let me know how it goes, they sell like hot cakes as the secret is out on how good they are ;-) Thanks for watching, Best regards, TGV P.s. New video just up! ;-)
Hey man, first thing I wanna say, is that I really like your videos. I wanna now what you think about fossil automatic watches such as the me3027. Are the movements good? Do you have any experience with automatic fossil watches? In regards Jonas
Jonas Herziger I'm also interested to here his honest opinion on Fossil's Swiss Made line. I think it could go either way. Some say they lack inspiration and soul.
Is this good friend of yours happened to be Marc from Long Island Watch? I recognised those two pieces of his almost instantaneously. Exquisite piece that Maxi Marine Chronometre, huh?
Hey Man. I recently saw a fossil automatic watch (me3027). Do you have any experience with fossil automatic watches? If you own one could you make a video about it? In regards Jonas
Love that Ulysses Nardin. Definitely a high-end brand I like, although not quite as into their "scenic" watches. The Sinn U1 has never done it for me - I much prefer the Navitimer or yours. TGV, you seem ripe for an upscale watch. Blancpain, IWC, Ulysses Nardin, Lange...
Jonny Casual Yup, may be just about time! I have actually some VERY big plans for next year. Upscale indeed but on a scale you would believe! Great comment, nice to have you back on deck JC, or as I like to refer to you, the right honourable Jonny Causal! ;-) Best regards, TGV
I just got a ulysse nardin marine chronograph watch and it's the same one as in your video and I don't know how to tell if it's real or fake can you help
ferisalgue WOW, thats insane. I can't help but be intrigued by it. Maybe I need something completely different like that. I like you thinking. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry Yeah, I remember the first time I saw the Diavolo, it just blew my mind away, I had to research on how to read it haha. Now, What are your thoughts on the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster? My Dream watch, and that is, is a Patek 5970, but that is unreachable and I believe the Zenith to be an extremely good replacement.
What great watches TGV!! Wow the ratcheting on the Sinn, you can hear the craftsmanship! Has me thinking this is definitely on my radar now...thank you for your reviews! I have an idea, if you can entertain me; instead of concerts in the park how about watch reviews in the park? dwell on it.. ;) Ciao!
itsleo Thank you my friend! WATCH REVIEWS IN THE PARK! love it. I could do a few from the great lawn in CP, only 10 mins on the subway ;-) Best regards, TGV
Johan Larsson Haha, perfectly understandable!! The strap is a Hirsch from my good friends at Holbens! ruclips.net/video/VloV14p3FD8/видео.html Best regards, TGV
Sylver Chavez Hi, is the link on the channel not working? hmmm very strange. I will have to double check it. Anyways, in the meantime, here... instagram.com/tgv1983/ Thanks for watching, Best regards, TGV
You know how much i love the U1. You're a proper little devil for putting this up. I'm not feeling the Chronometer at all though, it's just not my cuppa at all.
stephen rhodes haha! Thank you Stephan. Totally understand how you feel about the UN, I have the same feeling with Hublot for some reason. Best regards, TGV
Would give up my U1 for the Ulysse Nardin if someone gave me the Ulysse for free. Then I would sell the Ulysse and buy another U1 plus have a little cash left over. The U1 is a great watch for every occasion but the dressy ones. The Ulysse has a trendy, currently popular, design that will not survive the test of time.
Mark Kortum Hi Mark, haha, interesting comment. I would love to hear more, please could you explain why you think the UN will not stand the test of time? I can see what you mean but I am interested to hear what it is exactly that makes you think that. Thank you for commenting and watching, Best regards, TGV
Just stumbled across this because I'm looking at Chronometers recently and discovered this beauty from Ulysse Nardin. Nice overview. I'm hoping I find lug-to-lug measurements for their 41 and 43mm versions of this marine chronometer.

As for the madmen Omega, yes!!! I LOVE THAT OME, maybe even more then the Rollie (shhhh!!!)
but sadly they didn't have it. I think the switch happens in the last season as the show transitions into that era of watches.
Great comment, thank you for the kind words as always,

P.s. New video just up! ;-)
Hi TGV,
thank you very much for another great video.
Great comment as always,
Thank you.
Best regards,

Neither watch tickles my fancy, but a superb review of both pieces. Stay cool.
Locutus D'Borg Haha, no problem, I respect your honesty all the same.
Thank you as always,
Best regards,
TGV
Best regards,

I'm just gaga over Ulysse Nardin. Great little parkside review.
Excellent production and analysis of both watches, whilst presenting you Speedy was trying to steal the show with tha lovely leather strap. I digress. Now I want the Sinn more than ever. Great job, TGV! My wife will hate you for that.
Which model is a smaller U1. I quite like the square hands, can you get them on a smaller model?
Hello Mike, this is your future self. To answer your question the answer is the U200. Unfortunately I think you will find it a bit too small and it's thickness just makes it look really odd. Hope that helps.
Another great video TGV.

how much is this ??? can't find the price
Hi TGV,
Can I just say I love your channel by far the best I've seen, I am new to the watch collection scene and started my collection with an omega seamaster 300m ceramic in blue which I adore !

Congrats on the Ceramic Seamaster, excellent choice, WOW a Squale 1521 too!!!

+Jonas Herziger I doubt he has one! lol
Great comment, nice to have you back on deck JC, or as I like to refer to you, the right honourable Jonny Causal! ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
I just got a ulysse nardin marine chronograph watch and it's the same one as in your video and I don't know how to tell if it's real or fake can you help
also it's black not blue and the back looks a bit different and it's 300 meters instead of 200
How did you get it and not know if it's real?
Despite it's size the UN looks very good on TGV's wrist
andrew18570 I know right?!?! Haha Thank you, too kind.
Best regards,
TGV
Your Sinn 104 blows these away!
LA90004 Between you and me, I AGREE COMPELTELY! shhhhhh ;-)
Great comment, Thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
P.s. New video just up! ;-)
you should take a look at the Ulysse Nardin Diavolo ;)
ferisalgue WOW, thats insane. I can't help but be intrigued by it.
Maybe I need something completely different like that. I like you thinking.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
WATCH REVIEWS IN THE PARK! love it.
I could do a few from the great lawn in CP, only 10 mins on the subway ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Not my cup of tea in watches but I love your speedy and especially interested in knowing what beautiful strap is on it?
Johan Larsson Haha, perfectly understandable!!
The strap is a Hirsch from my good friends at Holbens!

Just when I was about to go to sleep, you uploaded your video. hahahaha
Zahy Matar LOL! You will now have dreams of watches and parks in queens ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry Hhahahahaha! I had a watch-dream last night! Funny stuff
Sinn is Awesome :)
Initially I thought that the top subdial was a lunar phase dial.
+William Albert excellent observation, I can totally see that now you mention it!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Ulysse Nardin what's impressive it keeps great time, it has the most patents of any watch, its one of the oldest watch companies
What is your Instagram? I have not been able to find it.
Sylver Chavez Hi, is the link on the channel not working? hmmm very strange.
I will have to double check it. Anyways, in the meantime, here...

Best regards,
TGV
Sinn wins. No questions.
bro why are you so into chefs lol ? what do you do professionally regards.
Mark Kortum Hi Mark,
haha, interesting comment. I would love to hear more, please could you explain why you think the UN will not stand the test of time? I can see what you mean but I am interested to hear what it is exactly that makes you think that. Thank you for commenting and watching,
Best regards,
TGV
The UN is dope. That U1 has the ugliest hands.
Face of chap with cigarette....lol
