Hendrickson 44000 lab suspension was tough and one of the roughest riding suspensions in the industry

Our family trucking business had 2.
The 69, R model cab and removable hood side panels, regularly ran Elk Grove Village to Texas.
It drew alot of attention about anywhere it stopped past St Louis.

If you saw Ralph Bihlman waling around the yard at Calumet Trucking, you would think he was just one of the drivers or maybe a mechanic. I drove for them in the early 70s, you would never guess that Ralph was the 6th richest man in Indiana at the time.

My families company had 2 of these great tractors. The first on was a 1957 single axel that we had a air tag put on it. She lasted a million and a half miles on one rebuild. Our second one was a 1972 with 270 cummings ans a 13 speed fuller trans. It was a bare bone wit the siesta seat and air ride seat. When we sold her she had over 700,00on the speedo. in 1991. The company we sold her to ran her for years. Through out all that time we had 1 driver doing the driving. He worked for the company for 34 yrs and retiried at the age of 81 yrs old. What a great man !!

My dad had a 62’ long nose 220 Cummins 5 speed 4 speed auxiliary “20 speed” red with an 8 ft hood for a small 220; they look like the love child of an Autocar & an International.

Hendrickson's 'mutually beneficial' contract with International for the walking beam suspension was certainly not beneficial to the drivers of the truck. Rough

I drove a lot of different Hendrickson trucks over the years. Starting at Indiana trucking in 1972 right after I got out of the army. 59 with a 220 and 5X4. Pulled flatbed and dump trailers. Went from there to Lessard bros. Dump trailers. We would go as far east as New York. They never saw Hendrickson trucks out there so every truck stop would cause a ton of folks wanting to know all about the Hendrickson. Almost all the Lessard trucks had Cat 1674 they had one with a 318.

Bettenhausen in Orland park or Tinley is still running an H model with a dump trailer, even saw the old girl pulling container freight by Amazon in Joliet. Thank you for bringing a somewhat obscure brand to light. I grew up in town with a H model pulling a lowboy for a local earthmoving company so I've always loved them

Henderson walking beam is suppose to be the bee's knee's for off road type trucks I've been told. Driven a few straight trucks with it. Like it better than the Rayco type spring ride.

Genuinely curious here, not trying to sound mean. I’m wondering if it’s a local accent that makes Maddie end certain words at the end of sentences by drawing them out?
    “Worm driveeen”
    “Nineteen thirtieeees”
    “Windshieeelds”
What locale is this from or is it just a personal thing? Anybody know?
