Gavin is like Maro in as much as he’s a public and beloved WoTC voice for the game we all love. I feel like this format, video, is Gavin’s version of the countless articles Mark has written over the years. I hope they never stop playing and making and talking and writing Magic.
Honestly, they're both so enthusiastic and well spoken. I listen to Maro's ted talk every few months as a comms guy to remind me of some great core concepts for knowing your audience.

Random fact: Sunweb had a different ability in design (I think not able to block large creatures), but the art came back blocking a dragon, clearly a large creature. So the ability was changed.

I find it kinda funny that the guy who works for Wizards uses Scryfall instead of Gatherer (understandable, since Gatherer is barely useable)
I'm sure WOTC is actually fine with a 3rd party putting the effort into making a superior search engine. It's not like they profit off of Gatherer, you know?
@@HessianHunter I just want to be able to post new stupid comments, and delete or edit old stupid comments, on the Gatherer again. Scryfall has no card comment section and it's a frustration because scryfall is otherwise excellent.

I like how they changed Terramorphic Expanse into Evolving Wilds for flavor in Zendikar. Then they finally reprint Terramorphic Expanse with new art and reference Nissa in the flavor text.

Warp World did nothing wrong! Favorite card. Was really hoping to see it here! :D I have a commander deck that wins the game with this card and roughly 18 permanents to start. It is crazy to resolve, but it was my first real standard deck ages ago, so it will always have a place in my heart. Even have a sweet alter of it that my brother bought for me.

I'm super jealous of the guy that designed Wrexial! Hearing that story inspired me to try and design an uncommon commander I'd like to see. If you'll humor me:
Moya, Oboro Phenomenon 1UU
Legendary Creature - Drake
Flying
When Moya, Oboro Phenomenon becomes a target of a spell, it phases out. It phases back in at the beginning of the next upkeep.
Whenever a permanent phases in, put a +1/+1 counter on Moya, Oboro Phenomenon.

It's a Wind Drake with a phasing ability that lets it become a decent voltron threat in mono blue. The phasing effect might need to be toned out to phasing in at the beginning of your next upkeep, but I really like the idea of being able to put a +1/+1 counter on it each turn. I like being able to get a benefit off of hitting your opponents permanents too, but that might need to be toned down whenever a drake phases in. Sadly, it wouldn't be able to be equipped or enchanted, but it would work with proliferate.
Part of me wanted to give it an effect that triggered off of drakes leaving the battlefield to work with Spiketail Drakes, but that seemed a little too specific.
When thinking about the potential lore, I thought Kamigawa would be a nice plane to represent. Moya is a word for haze in Japanese, and it sounded like an appropriate name for a creature that phases in and out.
Why is a drake is on Kamigawa? Moya is what came out of Keiga the Tidestar's Egg, and for some reason dragons are born as drakes, and eventually mature into dragons on Kamigawa. If that doesn't work, maybe her mate was a plane hopping drake?

This was great! I missed the stream but someone even asked about the card I would have (Selvala) so that was lucky. I would love to see more of this maybe as a once a month thing?
Commander uses aside, I have been slamming Flumph in limited. It's has flying and 4 toughness, so it keeps you alive when you need it to, and draws you cards when you choose to. I realize it can create blow outs for your opponent, but it still leads to lots of decisions, which I appreciate greatly.
I just watched the whole video, and it's such a blast to hear all these fun facts about (almost) random cards! I would definitely like to see more videos like this. I won't be able to watch a live stream myself, so if there is going to be another one of these, could I request a fun fact or story about Conspicuous Snoop or Goblin Cratermaker? I'm a huge goblin fan and already loved the Kiki-Jiki trivia! Either way, keep up the good work!!
Mirrodin used to be Ardent before Karn transformed the plane. It most definitely had native denizens.

I think that green Primordial seems super fair and fun, I don't get why it got banned or people even hate it. It's like a triple-creeping mold and some forests, so what. Wonderful flavour for green and feels like the commander version of a Reclamation Sage. Which is perfectly reasonable considering the crazy artifacts & enchantments around. Not that problematic imo and a cool payoff for such an expensive creature. Cool stream btw, even though I personally missed it, it's cool to hear the random little stories.

Hey Gavin on your warp world talk the worst one to play against is the great aurora bc yes warp world is chaotic but it is only reveal unlike the great aurora which is draw and I know this bc I draw a game.
But I love the insight of the magic cards and there stories.
4 color commanders were by far the best and most inspiring set. I really want to see more (also Planeswalker commanders)
Waiting since almost 10 years for 4 (before the commanders) for 4 colors factions bloc and start making a custom bloc, published it (on magiccoproration go to forum, édition perso, then Kingdomination and Gaea's guardians)
I seriously think that wotc "copied" me because not so long after puting more and more in those 2 forums wotc made the 4 colors commanders
( was copied by games workshop too, they created genestealer metamorph while I posted very similar conversion before they even bring back genestealer cult in the game..)
But.what can I do.. these games are they propriety, I doubt I can do anything about it for taking my ideas without giving me anything.. while people.are payed for having those kind of ideas.. (or to steal mines..)

Here’s what I hope’s an interesting enough question: Is there a list and/or is it tracked when cards are set on certain planes but not in their respective sets?
For example Nykthos Paragon [MH2], Herald of the Pantheon [ORI], and Nylea’s Colossus [C18] are all definitely Theros, but not in any Theros set. Trying for a pan-Theroan cube and all these extras seem like great inclusions.

1:34:00 - Ascendant Spirit is a really cool card, but it's kind of the ultimate epitome of "cards that clearly should have been white but weren't for some reason". At least Raven's Form, which mechanically was absolutely supposed to be white, has flavor excuses, but I mean, come on... Ascendant Spirit is a _spirit,_ a primary white creature type, and it ascends (a term already with religious connotations, which is in white's wheelhouse) to becoming a *4/4 angel...* I mean, that one just goes without saying, lol. Even "warrior" is very much white/red, and rarely ever blue. Heck, warrior angels specifically are _literally the premiere token type for white_ in this set! it hits every single mark for being a great and exciting white card, but because someone put "draw a card" on it it was shunted entirely to mono-blue, lol.
@36:35 - The time where the whole Modern Merfolk community weeped, as they were this close to have what they need to survive the format.

This is getting downloaded and listened to as a podcast during my commute :P
I remember reading an article about the zubera in Saviors. It was something along the lines of wanting to add more zubera, reason being either players like the theme or that the team working on the set wanted more cards to leverage off the theme. Now I may be wrong on the reason but it is safe to say that the 4 mana zubera didnt really lived up the hype.

In future Kamigawa it would be cool to see a new Tatsumatsa! Maybe one that did a Saint Traft effect, but instead put the Tatsumatsa dragon token into play tapped and attacking and then sac it at end of turn! ❤

I was thinking black recruiter could reanimate a 2 cmc or less from grave to play but that doesn't fit with the tutoring of the other recruiters, so maybe an entomb effect for a cmc 2 or less card or creature.
Just want to throw out there that Summit Prowler was my fav common in ktk. Even though it looks bad, I always felt good casting it

Gavin doesn't seem to know the fully story on how storm crow became a meme?
From a guy who actually played back then, I learnt that it was first printed in the same set as Force of Will being first printed, namely Alliance as Gavin said. Storm crow itself was a pretty bad card already, but it being able to be pitched to force of will was what "made it so good".

Goblin Snowman is the Ice Age card I fondly remember as a wacky fun card, with sweet matching art. Maybe one day there will be a legendary Goblin Snowman.
Battlebond 2 = Winter version of Battlebond 1? Great. Bet it would be a blast to draft. Please somehow keep pricing like Battlebond 1. Time Spiral Remastered fleets by with a price point, I guess, not meant for me.

So I wasn't able to join this thing but I wanted some more backstory behind the baron singer it is my absolute by far favorite card in the whole Magic the Gathering history if you could tell me a little bit about it I would really appreciate it like where the idea came from and some other tidbits

Oh, i was actually convinced that Fierce Empath was the green card in the recruiter cycle for some reason
My understanding is people used Storm Crows as a token to put their storm count die on when playing storm decks to keep track of their storm count.
