We got the Mini Cooper monster truck running last week and this week we finish all the parts needed to do the first test drive! Even though it is just a 2x4 at the moment it cruises off road with ease. Our homemade Mini monster truck is an absolute blast! Week week it will be a 4X4!

Had a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 inline 6 and it was straight pipe when I got it I love the way that thing sounded
you should propagate local native plants since you live in such a forgiving climate for gardening
Where did you get that rivnut tool for the impact driver? I need one!
They definitely made supercharged mini's factory so I think you guys absolutely have to get a premium stock blower and strap it on there for a little more hillclimbability yeah that's a word just made it upp! 😂
Make the MINI more MINI... It clearly started out as a real project made by someone who kinda knew what they were doing, run out of funds or time and sold it to a towing company, they then cheaply jerry rigged it enough to move it around and use it as a form of advertising, nothing else.
I think the most awesome thing you could do to it would be to give it much smaller ATV like rims and tyres that will increase the acceleration and climbing ability. Then lower the suspension and use something like Fox gas buggy shocks instead, remove the leaf springs giving articulation? Possibly making it into a smaller, more weaponized jumpable toy. It would be on brand for the channel.
That vertical prop shaft is the real hero. It will be the first thing to go.
Also, Will is getting crazy ripped, double back pocket is just natural training progression at this point.. 💪 He had two options, Give up back pocket phone or get buff enough to literally not even care about the consequences. He chose to send it. 🤣
I love Edwin trying to fly the drone while being thrown around.
Makes me happy to see the drivelines nw sticker still on, pat and his guys have built so many custom drivelines for me over the years. Highly recommend those guys
All jokes aside I love GHP!!!!
My International truck in Oklahoma still has one on the shaft they made at the shop in Everett!
lotta chuckles at the shot of ethan slowly moving the mill over to get to the bender / press break. stoked for you guys to have a shop soon!
Umm yah ! I could swear I saw them start it 3 yrs ago . Idk I might of been trippn . Shrooms happen.
Yeah, I think they did, but then COVID happened & they put it on hold. It was impossible to get concrete for a while (most of our concrete comes from China) and the price of all building materials tripled in 2021
They'll probably finish the shop right after the siding on the house.
You could easily remove at least 2 leaves from each spring pack to get a little smoother ride. 👍
or just have shackles that work lmfao
@@motoboggin2619yeah those shackles are all jacked up
I remember those leafs from the 70’s. Lol. To be young again…..
The panhard bar is severely binding the suspension causing most of the rough ride.
@@twatdidusay304 they removed it tho
I love spring/summer at the GHPC compound because it’s when Ethan gets to break everything he made over the cold months locked away in the shed! Haha
He’s like a crafty bear… he hibernates all winter building cool stuff, ripping the occasional snow build to keep his sanity and then when the ice is gone and the sun comes back out, he starts to test the tensile strength of various metals and push engines to extremes that the wildest engineer never dreamed of and he does it all with style!
Originally I used to cringe and cry when he broke stuff, but I’ve come to appreciate his way of thinking. These builds were made to be used and they exist for the fun they bring and if it breaks, you can build it better next time or move on to an even better project that will learn from this one.
I’ve learned to be a bit less precious with my stuff and have more fun! I literally raged when I got the first scratch on my OneWheel… now I let anyone try it, I bomb it down trails and crash it all the time. I crashed my motorcycle into a ditch recently and had a very Ethan thought; “Oh, this is a good opportunity to make that tail delete I’ve been designing! I just gotta learn to weld…” hahah
Thanks for all of the entertainment, encouragement and knowledge you guys have shared over the years!
Stay Premium!
Your guy's ad integration has gotten so much better. As a local to your area, I look forward to seeing your abominations out on the trails!
14:20 electrician here. I use shrink heating often. and yes, the shrink is extremely satisfying! :D
Get wire, solder wire, apply heat shrink, dang it...
Only time shrinkage is acceptable and desired 😂
I just love how you guys can build anything with that little garage. Can't wait for the new shop!
I love the crude shop and working in the dirt. There’s nothing you can’t solve or build there. I’m a corvette clean shiny city boy. I like your life style better. Dogs, dirt, projects and friends. Thanks for sharing. I ordered that camera you showed. Looks cool.
Awesome work, guys! I find it really interesting with 1.7 million subscribers. You guys don't have a shop with a lift. But I really do like the fact that you guys do it old school right out of your garage.. Keep up the good work!
They are building a new shop right now, gonna be good
37:12
@@intricateinc8566 It took a year to pour concrete, and still haven't put siding on the house. It's probably going to be awhile before the shop gets done.
The reason the shock is up higher is you need down travel. With the shock at full extension at rode height, and down travel is going to pull on the shock and destroy it. You've Gotta set your shocks at full droop
Yeah these dudes are not very smart. They just do janky stuff.
@@rodaj687you live and you learn. Not really a matter of dumb or smart, just haven’t experienced something doesn’t make you dumb.
I mean, springs are so stiff that car is probably full extension.
Yeah there setup will not work well lol they need different shocks all together
Came to the comments to see if anyone else understood this issue... Kudos.
You guys are missing an opportunity to call this thing the “Mega Cooper”.
This!!!!!
you should probably redo those shock mounts. Currently you aren't accounting for much droop in the suspension. If it moves more than the height of your shock mount, you'll bottom out the shock. You probably have more compression travel than you could actually get all things considered, but almost no droop travel.
That’s what I said …. He definitely didn’t think that one through … his shock is now his limiter strap…..😂😂😂😂
Came here for these comments.
These guys are great. Just what I thought when I watched that part of the video.
Oh shit. He figured it out later in the video. Live and learn. 😂
@@ryanp9084 He sort of figured it out. He still doesn't have much travel in the front end, and the rear end has no droop travel cause he mounted them directly onto the rear axel.
"get ready for the jump! Just kidding!" is such a mood. Love it! Especially with Edwin not being able to see, gotta wonder what he was thinking
When you perform the inevitable complete re-engineering of Mini Monster, please leave the interior mostly intact. I won't hold you to keeping the auto, though you could convert it into a sequential ;) MUCH LOVE!!
Absolutely love Bjorn and how much he hates the camera being on him, it's hilarious.
He's always talking about it lol
he's always guilty!
Gonna have to remove a few leafs from each spring pack i dont think they were designed for that little weight
There is not much flex because rearleaf hangers is hitting on that rear crossmember 😂😂
I've been watching your videos from way back in the day and I just had to deposit right now and compliment your producer for the amazing videography and music aspects because good stuff
Thanks man! I had to edit this whole video the morning it came out, I’m glad you liked it!- Edwin
Hey anyone else remember the 2jz lawn mower? I wanna see that make a coneback
This is sick , as a Cooper S owner in the UK it hurts to loose the center exhaust.
Apparently, some people,Ethan, don't understand about drooping or drop,or drop, because the shock has to be longer than its mounting point in order to allow the axle to droop or articulate...
Fun times! Have always liked the background music. Good beats.😂
Lots of wobble in the driveline, can't wait until you get the front axle driving! Needs lockers too!
You forgot that suspension also extends.
Bless
We all make mistakes
Love your videos!
Thanks for bringing us along with the build.
Really appreciate the use of safety gear guys , dont wanna see you guys get hurt
👍. Rootin for ya
Imagine growing up with this dude....omg...the things he probably built in his teens...someone should interview him n getvhis back story. Unless I missed it already. New sub here n love it....thank you for the great content n amazing builds
It’s on O’reillys RUclips channel
In the aisle’s with Derek from vice grip garage.
Great job on the mini cooper and can't wait to see it with the front wheel drive axel out of the transfer case connected what it will do then.
Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!
Try pulling a leaf out of each of the springs. I imagine that would soften up the ride and let it flex some more though you would probably lose a few inches of ride height. The shock mounts should also be set when the axles are at max droop so they don't act like limiting straps any time the axles want to drop below static height. I love what you guys are doing and I look forward to every project you take on.
I love Edwin trying to fly the drone while being thrown around.. Them dogs are living their best lives much love bois.
"Kinetic persuasion" I like that one! I use "blunt force motivator"
impact modification
Guys the video editing is just bonkers, you have such subtle style! Music pause… slowly crank the mill… crank crank crank crank crank…. Ba bam music! So good!
Besides the strings getting sucked in to the cutting off wheel ..and if ur not paying attention ur finger can end up in the wheel as well.i found that out and got five stiches split second tried to amputat my finger so safety is the best thing
Croissant wrenches always make work delicious
Love the channel so much , do much talent and skill. I love that you cut everything on the plasma in hexagon. So much talent would love to just help I got some skills , would love to spend time withe the crew. I would work for free just to watch and learn. You guys do so many amazing things, look forward to watching more. Love you all thanks for the entertainment and knowledge I've gained just from watching. Appreciate all you do much love lee from the UK.
I don't think I've ever seen Ethan less into a project then when he's undoing someone else's shitty craftsmanship. Neat build, odd starting point.
real. I guess they buy those unfinished project cars to diversify content, but I'd rather watch Ethan doing his own thing
He already mentioned he kind of regrets this purchase but they were too excited and committed to buying it so here we are. Ethan also mentioned in this video he might convert the entire suspension to 3-4 link which will probably result in almost completely rebuilding this to his standards which would be sick.
The sound of that thing running reminds me of my old suzuki samurai, good memories were made in that thing!
i really can’t wait for the new shop i can just imagine what you guys could build and get done
It looks like the shackles are pined against the frame rail / bumper things. Free those up and it might be a little better. At least till y’all four link it
The perceptive reality of vr drone goggles while in an off road car is funny lol
Diablo blades are amazing
Every other auto RUclipsr who said they needed more space, more tools, should feel a little shy about how much this channel has accomplished with that little shed.
Needs a dropbox/ quick change transfer case to help with tail shaft angles
can you bring back the series on your firetruck, I found it super interesting! But this is sickk man
Edwin has done top notch editing again as always 👍👍
that lime green wrap needs to go asap. That nice shade of factory British Racing Green will make it look a 1000 times better
When Will was running away from the bug his phone was in his back pocket. 10 pushups! Let’s go!
As someone who has flown fpv, chasing the vehicle while being in it, I know every little bump sends the drone to the ground. I loved watching you struggle because I know the feeling!
Pretty certain that frame is from a Jeep YJ. YJs (and maybe CJ7s? I'm not sure) had panhard bars from the factory even though they were leaf sprung. No idea why. I always thought it was kind of a weird setup. Maybe to help eliminate axle wrap or something?
Double up on shocks and mount the body to the frame with air bag suspension so the whole cab is like an off road seat
You guys are nuts!!!! but what I like about you is you are nuts and highly skilled, and that is such a nice combination. Keep up the great work and content,
It might ride smoother if that rear tranny mount was actually connected to that giant crossbar that is sitting under it lol....at 46 min in the video u can see it shake the whole drive train...its pretty crazy
I will never say that I'm going to hammer something together again. I have always said that I will kinetically persuade it 😂 😂
Love that rear track bar angle!
Yeah I hear'ya...since when does a leaf spring system need a track bar IT DOESN'T...THAT SUSPENSION WILL NEVER WORK
It could use track bars forward, with those lift blocks, it might pull yoke out of tranny.
0:47 That was hilarious. It went straight up. That never happens.
And when those beetles are finished building their home, they say: “ALL DUNG”! 😂
Best way to loosen the suspension for that would take a bunch of leafs out of the springs and just have a real jumpy mini lol
Also a lot of flex out of the drivetrain being the engine, trans, and transfer case everything else looked solid ish
You guys build the coolest things
Man I hope when I get rich enough one day I can do some good business with you guys and purchase a custom build! You guys are freaking awesome
Tip for moving the mil handle with speed. Power Drill with "normally" a T shape thing in it to move the handle. But your handles only have 1 grabby bit so T shape wouldn't work. Maybe make a like 3 pronged, kinda like if you make a claw with your pointer finger thumb and middle finger, then weld that to a rod. BAM! powerfeed!
Love your xj reference, learned to drive in one and no never rolled it though I did try. Keep it coming guys.
the dung beetle balls are nurseries, they put their eggs inside to keep them warm as well as a source of food for when the egg hatch
I would scrap thenfram and make a 4.link off both axles to the body. Weld up some extra square tubing for the unibody and get some good shocks for it like they use one rock crawlers. Yous know Paul from FabRats check out his 4 link system and see where he hot his shocks from. That would make it ride better and look cooler without that ugly frame. Cant wait to see what else yous do to it
Been waiting for this since it was fist reveled on the channel. Send it
Now make it 4x4 with lockers and put a vw 1.9tdi in it for the torque
yeah. A diesel would be awesome!
Them dogs are living their best lives 😂 much love bois
This is awesome, this is the content that is so enjoyable to watch!
3:52 the origin of the Minecraft anvill sound
There's a big part of me that's thinking that while you're doing all this work, why not fix the problems with the suspension while you're at it. You're even having to work on the suspension which is literally making you fix something that you know that you're going to have redo when you fix the suspension anyway. Whatever you end up doing, you will definitely have the coolest Mini Cooper known to mankind!! 😊👍👍👍👍
Me questioning not having down travel due to shock mount movement.
2 minutes later : problems addressed
Ya’ll asking alot of those u-joints on the driveline. Should swap for CV joints. And take a leaf or two outta the springs
me and my friends have a similar project to this. 1976 saab 99 GL on a 69 jeepster commando. It is an absolute monster truck
I agree, let more air out of the tires and take out a leaf spring out. Some PRIEMIUM shocks would be great.
Since the push-up initiative, will has quite literally gotten noticably bigger! Keep it up Will!!
That “bear in the van” guy was Napoleon Dynamite in real life
Truly dig these long viedos! Keep it up :D And for all of you not liking it. press pause and keep watching later. Internet is great isn't it?
good job on the sponsor commercial part, first time i have skipped that portion of someones video! also made me want to get one!
Is it just me or does Ethan seems a little low ? I Hope you’re doing fine man best of wishes ❤
Guys, you need to have the panhard bar parallel with the axle or else it's gonna try to shove the rear end out the driver's side if you leave it like it is.
Are y'all ever going to put siding on that house? lol, another great video.
Those Jeeps had panhard bars front and rear...most of us delete them..much better ride. Love your builds!
I'm wondering if you guys will put a bigger engine in the mini Cooper. You guys "need" to make Will do more push-ups!
It's not a Mini Cooper, it's a
Mini. Probably a One.
It will likely disappear soon. Not a great project
@@procatprocat9647 The body at least is a Cooper S. It has the centre exhaust and the air vent on the front for the supercharger.
@@procatprocat9647 Umm, it IS a Cooper. You're right tho, it's nowhere near "roadworthy" ....
Great to see someone thinking outside the box for a change...
That’s some impressive drone flying while riding in that bounce house.
You need longer leaf spring shackles. Springs don't flex much when they don't have room to move.
Another little addition to the crew
this content is a banger!! LIT
With the shock reaching to the axel. Shouldn’t it reach past? You want a lil load and roam to stretch and not lock out the shock when crawling right?
4-link conversion and coilovers, a better transmission and cooling system, and upgraded brakes will make this thing an absolute Mini monster! this car should definitely see a proper overlanding adventure
If you still wanted to keep leafs and get a better ride you could build drop down brackets and get flatter leafs. Maybe even get some slightly longer.
Humble suggestion to help the ride issues.... maybe just remove about half of the leaf pack since the car is so light. Shouldn't drop the car much, but you'll get a ton more flex/cushion.
Best quote yet "I have 12% of a plan!!!"
@6:53 it would be nice if bendpak was watching this right now... they seem to help out youtubers fairly opften in this regard. but then again, who is to say they aren't already in on the new shop build.
I’ve cut 3in stainless shafts out of Davits on yachts with Diablo blades on a sawzall. Best blades you can get
“Kinetic persuasion” 🤣 Love it!!! And I’m using it for sure.
That thing would look premium in the original green color
Definitely a major accomplishment 👏 ☮️
I own a R56 S but went the opposite duirection. Low slung, wide body....and I love this thing!. Id remove a few leaf springs to make it more comfortable to drive and look into bigger brakes/more power but damn thats really cool.
