Dildar Hussain & Shahbaz Hussain | The classical and qawwali tabla of Punjab | A teen taal duet

For quite sometime QalandarArts & Ustad Shahbaz Hussain have been wanting to put this specific occasion together and we finally managed to. Ustad Shahbaz Hussain is not just the UK's, but one of the worlds leading Punjab gharana classical tabla practitioners. Ustad Dildar Hussain needs very little introduction. He was the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's tabla maestro for over 30 years and he personifies Qawwali tabla. Open the dictionary, and it's simply a picture of him!
Ustad Shahbaz wanted to honour Ustad Dildar with this arrangement; a conversation between two traditions of the tabla that both originate from Punjab but which have their nuanced differences. They were supported on harmonium by Londoner Kash Pal who in fact represents the next generation of Qawwali tabla players.
Such a coming together like this is very rare and the small and intimate crowd that attended felt very privileged to have been up close and personal like this.

This was Amazing n the thought of doing this 🙏🏽… but they should have played separately as well … Ustad Shahbaaz was not being heard because of being disturbed during his time…Amazing Tho🙏🏽

Seems like an issue with audio equipment, Qawwali tablas are already much more sharp and naturally louder that plus the placement of the mic very close to the Qawwali Dayan means Ust Dildar Sahibs tablas were way too loud in comparison to Ust Shahbaz's, the engineer should've mic'd both sets the same way or using the current set up ensured both sets were at the same volume

Yahan buht ataae, be suray aur be taalay dildaar Khan shb par comments paas kar rahay hain jese ke unki auqaat ho. Khan shb aik buht hi mukhtalif sinf ke tabla nawaz hain and unho ne khud kaha hai ke mera kaam aur hai aur Shehbaaz shb ka aur. Ye cheez sirf aur sirf unko tribute ke liye ki gayi hai. Ye fusion ke experiments hotay rehtay hain.
