WHAT is not so much about patriotism as it is about being proud of what one is. The flag they are waving is not the Philippine flag and it does not depict political turmoil of any kind but the chorus does say that it does not need bullets to conquer worlds anymore; bars (words or lyrics or songs) can win hearts every time. 😊 The boys were given free hand by their then management to do the MV and they came up with this masterpiece with Justin (the youngest with a pony tail) who directed it, Pablo (the one who sang first ) as its writer and who writes most of their songs, Stell (the farmer in the MV who has the highest voice among them) who choreographed the dance with a little help from Ken (the deep-voiced fella), and Josh who slayed with his iconic rap coming out from the elevator. 😊
The song is full of symbolisms as most SB19 songs are. The central theme is about standing for one’s own beliefs, waving one’s own flag and not being afraid to go against the flow of popular thinking.
SB19 waves our flag (Philippines) proudly on both the local and global stage! Paving the way for Ppop music to be recognized worldwide.

Thank you for appreciating the song's structure. Pablo wrote this during the pandemic and collab'd with a Fil- Canadian music producer, and Pablo was pretty hands- on about his vision being expressed in the music. The guy, Simon Servida, even vlogged about it. This was at the time when Pablo and his brother were still finding their footing in music production. Nowadays, they produce most of SB19's songs as well as some of the other members' solo projects.
Another SB19 song with a 'quirky' structure is Gento, which was also written by Pablo.
The dust in the dance break part is literally dust from the volcano(Mt. Pinatubo)

Keep reacting to SB19 please! If you like the Rock vibe, check out some of Ken's solo stuff. Ken is the one with the deep voice and goes by Felip, his given name, for his solos. I would suggest "Fake Faces," "Konako," and "Bulan" to start. Each member has solo projects that reflect their individual personalities. Ken's is very diverse!

In all SB19 songs, there is no dud in the bunch, literally since day1, and we are very proud for you to check them all out, to see how patriotic, passionate, talented, and humble these five individuals are... If you will love them because of their powerful vocals and unique style, expect to hear new song that might not sound like their style due to collaborations with other artists, as their popularity globally grows, where I noticed they highlight the other artists' style more when they do collab compared to their own songs where they really showcase their passion and power as a group. But still great songs and worth to check out with great BTS stuff
Please react more to SB19 if you are the type of reactors who appreciate artists who put a lot of love and passion in their work especially in their live performances. You can see that SB19 is the standard when it comes to vocal agility, harmonies & technicalities. There is no difference in the studio version and live version inspite the hard choreo that they do. They gjve so mucb respect and value to their audience & fans that SB19 does not give you a "bare mnimum" performance. SB19 gives you value for your money & time, which is hard earned money. It shows in their concerts, fan service , MVs, and merch most esp lightsticks ❤

First time hearing SB19.
*"What?!?"* starts off great. This will interesting. Then the first vocals are hear & the song just bottomed out for me. I do not like rap. Then the song changed. Vocals are different. The vibe is different. Immediately, I thought SB19 was doing a Japan's *"Maximum The Hormones"* type of a song. Stay in this genre or vibe for an X number of bars. Then change. Keep the song interesting for the listener. Once maybe twice they stayed to long before switching. But when they did switch. It was the right vibe to move too.

8:45 They have a "Making of WHAT?" video released and yup, they had several takes of that for different angles! And yes the dust did go up all the time. 😂 Some of the dancers and filmographers had vlogs about it because this MV was by far what flipped the perception of PPop in the Philippines (whivh was SEVERELY NEGATIVE at that time) and it also changed the attitude of producers to take MVs and other entertainment content VERY SERIOUSLY, thereby jumpstarting the flood of quality videos coming from Filipino artists (you have NO IDEA how ridiculous the quality of videos were before this MV dropped).
For all reasons, WHAT woke a lot of Filipinos. It defined the standards for several things: what PPop's level of talent should be, what Filipino content like MVs should be, and just what kind of music PPop should produce. And that is why it is titled WHAT? because it answers so many "What" questions that were thrown at SB19 by doubters.
In a way, you could say, WHAT is a "question" that gives the loudest statement.
