When her boyfriend shaved her head it reminded me of when I saw my dad shave my mom's head after her hair started falling out cuz of chemo. My daughter has alopecia...the only time I saw her cry was when her scalp was showing through. After that, she shaved her head and wore beanies for 2 years. She kept her job, her boyfriend and applied to college. I was never more proud than when she ignored what society said was "important" and kept moving forward.

I lost my hair to an autoimmune disease and malnutrition in 2015. I'm crying because this is so beautiful, you are so strong, and I am in awe of you. The emotion of losing you hair is intense. You feel like you've lost the very thing that defines who you are as a woman (or a man). In the words of India Arie, "I am not my hair... I am the soul that lives within." My niece has the same thing. She struggles with it. She feels less feminine and gets bullied. She tries to hide it but I pray for the day she can shave it all off and just rock the look. Because I see how hard it is for her and don't want her to struggle anymore. I love her and I hate that she has to go through this.

Well, it's her hair. Even if it didn't fall out I think it's only a woman's buisiness if she like to wear it long, cut it short or shave her head completely. I would tell my man to leave if he'd tell me I had to grow and wear long hair only to please his "beauty standarts for women". My hair, my desicion! It's awful Becky's hair falls out and that she had to shave her head to feel comfortable again. Next week I'm getting brain surgery and I'm getting my head shaved but, lucky for me, my boyfriend's been behind me 100%. :) I have epilepsy and because of that the two of us can't get married yet because we live in different states. We've been waiting 3 months for this appointment and when I finally got it both of our families went CRAZY!!! The sooner I can get rid of my seizures the sooner the two of us can be together.
And he said that he doesn't care what I look like, as long as we can be together :)

Amber Otter It went REALLY good :) I just got the stitches out last week but it still hard to open my mouth all the way like for eating (or even yawning lol) but I get to see my boyfriend on Friday and get to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family! And I CAN'T WAIT!!!
I was thinking about getting a wig, but I was talking with my little sister about it and I decided not to. Everyone's been giving me compliments on my "hair" and "how I pull off this look". lol also my dad was the one that buzzed my hair and he buzzed his the same day as mine, and now we have the same length hair. So my hair is growing back really fast and people say I look alright.
If I had to get this test done again then I'd get a wig, but because of how fast my hair is growing I think it would be a waist of money.
But another positive to not getting a wig is my boyfriend doesn't care if I get one or not :)

This legitimately made me cry. I have androgenetic alopecia, not many viable treatments for it, so I'm slowly seeing my beautiful curly hair shrink to nothing. I just hope that the people around me will be half as supportive as that wonderful gent in the video when the time comes for me to chop my locks.
Hi! I also have Androgenetics Alopecia. Have you tried Minoxidil? (You'd have to do it forever but it's better than nothing - for me at least, it is)
Hi Andreia! I've heard of it, but there is a risk of being one of the people who do not respond well to the treatment. That and the fact that it's rather time consuming and expensive is why I shy away from it. I've been drinking spearmint tea and using saw palmetto topically overnight to counter some of the effects. Also crossing my fingers for stem cell / genetic engineering ;) Glad to hear you've been getting worthwhile results though!

Now there are beautiful things out there in life, places, experiences, etc. Some man-made from scratch and some is just nature. But trying to change yourself externally every single day.. it's not necessary. Honestly strangers don't care what you look like. Obviously look decent for the public eye but if you don't wear mascara, it's not the end of the world. We need to not change our image for anyone else or what commercials say. If makeup makes you feel great, it's actually very creative sometimes, then great!

It wouldn't matter if people were mean anyway, since I think it's beautiful. The sooner I learned that I can dress or look however I want, the better.

I watched this video 4 years ago and completely forgot about it. Now, I’m going through the same thing. My hair and health have been slowly falling out for almost 2 years now but I was careless and ignored these signs. This summer lupus hit me hard. Now I only have a few clumps of hair left. Im thinking about shaving it soon so I dont have to thing about it.
This year is my senior year and it has been so hard, especially with distance learning. My health is deteriorating faster than my communication skills lmao. Tonight I just stumbled on this video again, and I cried. Thank you for sharing your story.

I had long healthy hair and every one loved it.. My little friend had cancer and I was so close to her.. Her hair eventually started falling and she grew self conscious and hopeless.... I shaved my head for her to feel how she felt and encourage her...I had to donate my hair because that's what she wanted me to do ❤❤ and now I really miss her..
