6th october 2020. i will remember that day forever. When I read the USA today story on my phone at work during the day: Eddie Van Halen has passed. Didnt hear anything other than van halen for the rest of the day.
Eddie forever will be king. I have the charvel b&w when it first came out. Got the EVH rb&w a few years ago and I agree about the frets. Also picked up Kramer 1984 reissue when it came out about the same time charvel and bang for buck the reissue is the best to play, just needs the famous strip paint job. Now just waiting for the Frankie from backorder. Cheers and thanks for sharing this.
If money wasn't an issue, I would buy the 78. i bought the evh striped series and replaced the pickup with the evh frankenstein, added an FU-tone brass block and brass fine tuners
My 1981 Charvel neck is the same profile as that relics. It is extra wide 1-3/4" and really thin front to back. It also has the gibson sized frets like Eddie's had back then. Itcisxmy favorite neck shape
I would buy the more accurate one. I just looked for one and they aren't available. I think the advertised price for the '78 Eruption was about $5,000.00 while the Stripes version is $999.00, and the 78 Eruption Relic is at $30,000.00. I'm not doing $30k. I'm still considering buying my own parts to recreate the guitar in its earliest photographed form. :) Have fun with yours!
I'd buy neither. I'd build a replica of the 78 or a red-black-white striped EVH replica and add a couple of my own little twists on it spec-wise. That way I'd end up with the exact EVH style guitar I want, and while I would probably spend more than the Mexican made striped series it'd still be a much better price point than the custom shop replica.
you can immediately hear the harmonics and the character of the replica producing that sound ! OP - check out chip ellis evh set up on youtube on how to exactly set up this guitar as Eddie did
Your "crazy money" USA replica is amazing, and it's likely a good investment if you keep the case candy in mint condition. The joys of it being relic'd is it won't show signs of use. Beautiful! Have you tried the MiM replica? I got one last week for a really good price (£850 new UK). Relic finish is cool - it's my first relic'd guitar, obviously not nitrocellulose paint or anything.
That was probably a copywrite problem, although I have pictures in the book that came with it that Ed Van Halen wrote where the Gibson decal is rubbed of. Since this is the end of tour addition, it's accurate. Thanks for the comments. PS. I just got the striped Series Frankie and while it is a nice guitar with a nice updated neck, this eruption blows it away.
@@garythomas4431 i didnt figure the Gibson sticker would be..i was kidding. I wish they would recreate the shark. I would love to play the new franky but it makes more sense to make one at home. Just doesn't have that mojo if you dont
The normal Striped Series with Floyd Rose is a better guitar overall and at reasonable price. The relic or limited series are nice, but WAYYYY over-priced for what they are. But if you are collectors and have loads of money, go for them!

The price of the 78 series is BEYOND ridiculous.5 grand 10 grand 30 grand, you can build a top notch guitar for under 2500!

Both cool, go Warmoth.
If money wasnt an issue I would buy them all, and all the amps, and build a studio.
EVH stripped? When? I didn't know that! 😂

Very nice indeed. 78 relic all the way.

Awesome guitar......can you upload the dvd/video that came with that guitar?
Sorry, this did not come with a video.

rather have the floyd anyday,I play the things not stare at them.
Cheers!!! 🍻
Well, since his white guitar did not have a Floyd, I would not want that one.
What one would I buy? Easy, that one.
I like the evh shark 🦈 but if I have the money I will buy the The Relic black and white frankenstrat 🤟😇🤙
The one without the locking nuts sou ds betters are they affordable??
They were limited quantities. Only 30 made in the whole world. Very expensive guitar.
Your money, your choice.
That '78 kicked the other one's ass big time
78 all day long 🤘👌
If $ was no issue..def the more accurate 78 fiddle. Otherwise, ill make my own..Gibson decal not included * ..lol

What is that thing on the first fret? What is it for? Do you buy that separate? No such thing as a dumb question
Brass nut. They were popular upgrades in the 70s. Ed like it because he could oil it for better tuning stability. He used 3&1 oil.
gary did you prefer eddie or randy?
They both sound thin and buzzy. Probably the recording,
I recorded this with my phone, so the audio is bad. Sorry.
I’ll take the Soldano actually.
Money no object? Yes, I'd buy the '78 replica but I'd gig my own replica. You should really have a go at making your own.
