As an engineer who as tried to design and and sell electronics, I agree and disagree. I started with a price point that I thought would be reasonable to sell my product. I discovered that I would have to double or triple my price to make it worth my time and effort. My product wasn’t even as complicated as this. I don’t think he CAN lower the price without losing money. He’s selling in a niche market and can’t produce these at a volume where he’s dealing with component manufacturers. There is a lot more that goes into the price of a product than what you might think.
I would honestly go with the cheaper version... I ordered this product for $145 and it ripped after being out of the box for 5 minutes... there is no contact customer service number... only email... if you email them, they won’t get back to you... horrible customer service, cheap product... Also if a business owner has time to shit talk other companies what does that tell you... shut them up with your product and customer service... not your words... Good on you man! If I buy helmet lights they will be yours for sure. I know a rider who got "fake mode" and he is constantly messing with it to make it work. The battery cover flew off or fell off...yup...duct tape. Great vid and message!
Well, what you are showing is true.. but remember they are selling it over 100 $ less... I appreciated the fact you did chose C for your programming language ( C++ would probably have made it easier in the long run if you want to use different firmware with the same code.. anyway ).. That helmet drop was.... well hopefully we can trust you won't sell it. All I learn during that video is... you should consider having different quality product, like a premium version and affordable one ( there is a market there you are not opened too which does not require programing or so... think of it ). Good luck and wish you tone of success.
I prefer the AA batteries over the integrated one. Here me out, when that battery dies and I mean it won't hold the same charge anymore like it use to, what will you do? Buy another light kit? Throw down 200 bucks for another kit because the battery crapped out on you or just go to the store and buy more recharge AA batteries.
I’m glad you called out the scammers! When I started seeing the fake light ads I was concerned but it was a good idea showing the differences..your product is definitely finer quality 😂
i'm a year late for this video... but i wonder how many knock off version will other companies make. but mad respects for you sir for making an awesome product!
Hey brother your idea is super awesome about the LIGHT MODE but its way more expensive than the fake ones it's 200% cheap, and especially in India average helmet costs around 25$ and the product itself is about 200$ it makes no sense.... If you have any problem with those fake ones "actually you have cuz you made a 15 min video criticizing it" Just do a patent!!!!
I'm fine with some extra wires, can simply shorten. Real talk, replaceable batteries is actually a plus. No charge time wait lol. I dont ride much if at all during the rain so not being water resistant is fine with me.
Can I point out that the fakemode also has a very high pitched whine that you can actually hear over the wind noise when riding. An lightmodes are super quiet
I live in Brazil and I really wanted to buy this LED KIT, but it turns out to be very expensive for me because the value of $ 149 is as $: 579 or as $ 580 since it does not receive the conversion of the real to dollar :(
he Is monopolizing on the fact that he has a youtube channel which does most of his advertising....No way a bunch of lights would cost 150 dollars and it's just insane he would put it up for that price...just sad
Cham Reon you’re saying it’s too expensive but for someone who needs to make a profit, it perfect. Surprisingly, tech stuff is expensive to make and sell, especially custom ones and with the fact his is not a mainstream thing, he needs to be able to make a profit from the few that do buy it. Also, you may buy a $7 one but how quickly will it break? Before you know it, when you keep replacing it, you’ll spend more than you did buying the real deal if you’re that bad at maths.
the knock off is 10 bucks yours is 130, yes i know yours is much better but for what it is and how much ill be using it the knock off is clearly a better value, however if the price for your unit was a reasonable 50-75 dollars i wouldnt even consider a knockoff version
I completely agree but it's scummy that they use his photos. If they just made a lower quality, cheaper alternative but didn't use his media it wouldn't be so bad and I probably would consider buying it. I think if he just ship the manufacturing to some developing country to create jobs and keep the price down it'd be awesome for everyone. 130 bucks for lights is kind of steep and like you said anything between 50-80 bucks I wouldn't even consider the 10 stuff. I have a knock off sena 10S and it survived 2 accidents with one high speed. I paid about 100$ compare to 300$. Same range and waterproof and can connect to any other Bluetooth with similar if not same sound quality. I have a SENA upad as a gift and it is definitely better but it's not 250$ better and I just need something that can play music and give directions.
Fucking hell 130 for some lights?? Now thats a rip off haha! for real tho the guy didnt even show the actual lights on probably because they are exactly the same and for that reason this video just seems like a massive advertisement. Hey Ken, I saw your comment on instagram as well. Thanks so much for the support. In case you missed it, I linked you to a video on how to install LightMode kits on modular helmets: ruclips.net/video/wScDeg181aM/видео.html
Hey I really like this video. It's in depth of how it was designed. I really appreciate how much thought you put in to the research and design. As a customer you really are getting more then what you pay for, as the average person does not think about how it was put together. All the steps to prevent water intrusion, corrosion, even the mount that can hold the helmet up. The controller is sealed in every possible spot, even the cables. I honestly think if you wanted to you can dunk the thing in water and it would work under water and not have an issue at all. Thanks for making this video. !
I bought one of these cheap kits a couple years ago and didn't even know about this product at all. It was so shitty out of the box I never bothered to install it. Now that I've run across this, I can't wait to get some proper lights.
If I had a dime everytime someone said what you just said lol. Can't wait to have you on team LightMode. Let me know which kit/color you end up getting and which helmet you put it on 👍
but the thing is, his product is 20x-30x more expensive,. so unless your really serious about putting lights on your helmet then just buy the cheaps ones if your just looking for experimental fun.
Solutions: Hot glue. Super Glue. Maybe some wire strippers and a soldering iron if you want. For about 50 extra bucks you can make the cheap lights as good as LightMode.
I hear people saying this is merely a "look cool" product etc. That is completely not the case go look at the numbers of how many die in motorcycle accidents that were hit by someone driving a normal vehicle that "just didn't see them". This product is important because it helps you be seen while driving a motorcycle and therefore it most likely increases your safety level by a huge margin. The fact is motorcycles can be hard to see so anything that increases the lights on a motorcycle is an excellent safety feature already. And given the fact that your head is the highest thing while on a bike it is the best place to put light to be seen. This product is both genius and important and all you people ragging on this guy are just jealous haters all day. Because if you have ever consistently bought chinese knockoffs online then you should know that the quality levels go way down when it comes to many products. With many products the cheap versions simply DO NOT LAST. And don't tell me that you wouldn't be pissed off in this guy's shoes! I know I would!

I like your efforts, quality, and your nightshift itself. Needed in my thinking: a flatter connection instead of two protruding looping wires. There is simply too much protrusion happening affecting daytime appearance and too vulnerable in a crash. Suggestion: a slimmer but longer slightly flexible or curved module so it wraps at bottom of the back of the helmet. Less obtrusive and most wipeouts are not at the neck, unlike the front, back and side crashes on a helmet. $249 may be too much of a hit to ones budget, especially if it’s destroyed in a wipeout. I’ll keep an eye out for your future products, it is a beauty for that 2-4 hour night visibility ride home.
I didn't know your product existed before RUclips recommended this video, but it's awesome. And now that I know the effort you put in, I wouldn't buy any other product.

As in retail business, the majority of retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price, but some retailers earn an agreed percentage of the sales in commission, paid by the wholesaler to the retailer. Yo for 50 or 60$ i would CONSIDER Buying it, but for 130$ I Definitely would not. Cool product, keep up the good work, I Like your videos.
it is way too overpriced
As an engineer who as tried to design and and sell electronics, I agree and disagree. I started with a price point that I thought would be reasonable to sell my product. I discovered that I would have to double or triple my price to make it worth my time and effort. My product wasn’t even as complicated as this. I don’t think he CAN lower the price without losing money. He’s selling in a niche market and can’t produce these at a volume where he’s dealing with component manufacturers. There is a lot more that goes into the price of a product than what you might think.
Holy shit I thought that I was the only that think that it is fucking overpriced. Until I found this comment. And I know thats a hard work but man!
I’ve yet to hear from them or receive my money back...

hmm, $140 vs $15... I'll take $15 dollar one all day and twice on Sunday. $15 looks cool, don't care about waterproof, not planning on riding during the rain. At night, no one knows the difference.

@@Mr.LightMode Precisely. Have just said as much myself.
@@Mr.LightMode I'd rather pay £9 every time I fancy putting a gimmick on my helmet than £150 just for it to be pretty similar and the build quality slightly better, I understand the frustration but the market you're selling to, and the market the Chinese knock offs are selling to are very different.

We didnt even get to see the most important part, the lights lmao. Plus this was one version

Solutions:
Hot glue.
Super Glue.
Maybe some wire strippers and a soldering iron if you want.
For about 50 extra bucks you can make the cheap lights as good as LightMode.
I dont even have a bike, or a licence for driving one, but this is cool, and I would get one if I had use for it :D

After a year, I finally bought a set, hopefully they get here soon! Excited

As in retail business, the majority of retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price, but some retailers earn an agreed percentage of the sales in commission, paid by the wholesaler to the retailer.
