You gotta hand it to Iggy: he set a Finals MVP record that will never be broken: shooting under 36% from the free throw line. Only Shaq ever came close (as a Finals MVP) to matching that free throw badness.
Also: Iggy is the first and last FMVP of my lifetime (even if I live another 50 years) to be outscored by a teammate by almost 10 points per game.
Mark it down: you're not going to see another person given the FMVP while shooting under 36% on free throws and being outscored by 9.7 points per game by his own teammate. It happened once, and it won't happen again.

It was unjustified. By any objective metric, Curry was the most valuable Warriors player in that series. It would've made more sense to give it to LeBron than to Iggy, but if they're going to give it to someone from the winning team, then Curry was the obvious and only choice.
So why did they give it to Iggy? My theory: it wasn't about Curry-hatred, not at all. Curry had just won the regular season MVP.
Instead, I think it was a narrative-based award. Iggy was a starter, and a 1-time All Star. Kerr comes in and IMMEDIATELY tells Iggy he wants him to come off the bench instead of start. By all accounts, Iggy wasn't happy about it, but he embraced the team concept, and was an outstanding 6th man. Then, when trailing 2-1 in the Finals (having split a couple of overtime games) and desperately needing a game 4 win, Iggy comes into the starting lineup for the very first time all year. And he played well, and the Warriors won 3 straight.
Meanwhile, Curry had a really bad shooting game in game 2 (though, to be fair, he basically single-handedly brought the Warriors back late in the game to force OT, where they lost) and, even though he shot 10-20 and 7-13 from 3s in game 3, they still lost. Games 4-6, Curry scored 22, 37, and 25, but the narrative was already set: Iggy sacrificed for the good of the team, then, when the team struggled, he came back to the starting lineup, and the series turned around; everyone knows LeBron was really the best player in the series, not Curry, and if we're not going to give it to LeBron, how about the guy who guarded LeBron? The narrative fit together.
Iggy is the first and only Finals MVP you're ever going to see who was outscored by 9.7 points per game by his own teammate, and you'll never see another Finals MVP shoot under 36% on free throws. You can memorize that as a universal law: it'll never happen again.

Not it wasn’t ...Lmao no one wants to talk about in 2016 when both teams were healthy and had all of its players 1st 4 games the Warriors was far better than the Cavs was up 3-1 cavs only started winning when Bogut the only rim protector the guy who had 5 blocks game 3 got hurt and was out for the series . Then after that Draymond got suspended then game 6 Iggy was carried off the floor due to injury. this likely prove in 2015 that the Warriors would hv won anyway just like they did Game 1 when Kyrie pretty much played the entire game except last 2 mins of of OT ... funny how it’s okay for cavs to blame injury in 2015 but not the Warriors in 16... not to mention Steph wasn’t himself in 16 due to MCL lingering affects ... KD was a luxury not a need again both rosters healthy and full Warriors proved they were the best team without KD ... being that the only 4 games both teams played with both team all players available Warriors won 3 of 4 of those ...

Also, while Lebron was the best player in the series he wasn’t hard carrying as hard as he was in the 2015 finals. Therefore, it’s harder to make an argument that he deserves it when his team lost. • @kevinwhite4251

Rookie year vs Philly, with Kareem out Game 6, Magic went 42, 15, 7 and 3 steals on 14-23 to close them out. KD tried coming back and went down Game 5 in 2019 and Curry was nowhere to be found in Game 6, even before Klay got hurt

That’s not even the point I’m trying to make. Yes, obviously you can’t win by yourself but to try to make the argument that Magic is overrated because he played with Kareem is absurd. If you don’t like his rookie year Finals, then check the stats on his 1987 FMVP. He was head and shoulders the best player in the series. As stated in the video, Curry has never been that in the Finals. That’s not to take away from the fact that Curry is a great player, but it’s difficult to win FMVP when the other team’s guards are cooking you in every Finals besides 2015.

9:55 bro were any of lebrons finals wins on teams that were formed “organically”? Every time hes won the finals has been on a team that didn’t draft the majority of its key players. Also funny how he’s saying “it’s supposed to be hard to win a championship, not a cakewalk” when lebron has intentionally made it his mission to make it extremely ez to win the finals every year.
    Joins heat superteam
    Joins cavs superteam
Tries to form another superteam after kyrie gets traded by picking up Wade Isaiah Thomas, Derrick rose etc, fails miserably
Joins lakers knowing ad will be coming
Tries to convince kawhi and Paul George to join him and ad after acquiring ad via trade
Tries to stack his team as much as possible by trading for Westbrook, getting not only valuable vets but up and coming young players to take vet min deals when they could be getting 10 mill plus a season to have depth as well as two superstars
Apparently those are “organic teams” being formed by drafting players and developing them. I’m not a curry fan or lebron hater btw, I’m not a fan of any one player and not a hater either, I just tell the truth (I actually do share your hate and feelings for Tom Brady however). Lebron has done everything in his power to form unbeatable super teams since he left the Cavs the first time and the warriors just added one player to their team. Lebron even forced the 15 Cavs and the 18/19 lakers to trade away potential “organic developing” players in waiters and lonzo, Ingram, and hart. And so if the warriors rings don’t count how do lebrons?
First ring: Superteam in a lockout year which was supposed to win 10 rings, also faced thunder who’s core was all under the age of 24
Second ring: missed game tying/season ending shot to be bailed out by pop taking Tim Duncan off the floor. Bosh gets rebound, kicks it to Allen to hit the greatest shot in nba history after lebron misses. Also bosh fouls Danny green in ot and gets away with it on final play
Third ring: apparently even tho everyone just shit on love and called him trash and the reason they lost any time they did, he’s so valuable of a player that the series was unfair in 15. Irving also gets hurt. But in 16 when curry has a knee and ankle injury, iguadala has a back injury, bogut misses final 3 games, Draymond’s suspended for the close out game at home when u yourself say he would’ve been the finals mvp, and Harrison Barnes shit the bed all series and misses every open shot he took. Also curry’s teammates shot only 28% from 3 in the finals when he was on the court but it wasn’t fair when lebrons teammates basically did the same in 15. And then even tho curry played insane in 17 and 18 it doesn’t count because it was too unfair and he “maybe wasn’t the best player on his team”. Um so do lebrons heat rings not count since his team was lopsided compared to the opponent?
Or when kyrie debatably outplayed him and saves him by hitting the series winning shot while he watches in the corner
4th ring: widely regarded as still the best player in the nba, has at worst the second best supporting cast that season behind the clippers, along with the second best player in the nba that year with ad. Also benefited from months to rest amid the pandemic, played a losing record blazers in the first round who were Rodney hood and zach Collins-less (cj McCollum also had a broken back), the rockets who had no player over 6’6 on the roster plus led by the worst postseason performing superstar in nba history in james harden, Westbrook who was just left wide open all series and couldn’t make a shot. Conference finals got to avoid the only challenge to them that year in the clippers, faced an inexperienced Denver who had to miraculously come back from 2 3-1 deficits to make it there. Finals: doesn’t play a top 4 seed in the east, plays 5th seeded heat who lost their second all star/2nd best player in bam for pretty much the whole series, lost leading scorer and starting point guard in gragic, best player was butler who’s never even been a top 10 player, second best player was a rookie who was proved his bubble play was a fluke the next year.
Do any of those rings seem valuable?
I didn’t even talk about his losses or the fact that he cruised thru the worst conference of all time for every year except 2020 and 21 and nearly lost to a pacers team multiple times when their best player was a pre prime pg and their second best player was lance fuckin Stephenson/Roy hibbert. Also just lost first round in the west in the first real season in that conference and had help

    • @tonj02
      @tonj02 2 года назад +8

@Judge Jerry Poppins 1. This is a common misconception, the 17 warriors were not the 16 warriors +KD. One of the biggest reasons for their dominance in 15 and 16 was that they could go to any man on the bench and they’d be a good player. They had ridiculous depth. They sacrificed nearly all of that to add durant. The only guys they kept was curry Klay green igoudala and Livingston. That’s not adding KD to the 73-9 warriors, as they were a very top heavy team in his time there, since they gave up all depth to get him.
      2. There have been plenty of teams since 2000 that were formed and thought to have been unbeatable. The 04 lakers, the 2013 lakers, the 14 nets. The durant move gs obviously seemed like the most insane team of all time had been formed but the only reason that is the case is because the big 3 heat didn’t work out like they were supposed too. I know that most people on the internet have memory loss or just weren’t following the nba until a few years ago but the reason the world went absolutely insane when they formed was because when lebron said they would win 7+ championships, It didn’t seem that crazy at the time. They just assembled the best sf, arguably the best sg, and at minimum a top 3 pf in the league all in their primes. That was crazier than the 17 warriors for a few reasons, one being that most people have lebron as the 2nd greatest ever at minimum and he was in his prime, Wade who is the 3rd greatest sg ever who was in his prime, and bosh who again was a top 3 pf in the league and a hofer who was also in his prime. Meanwhile there was no team in the nba that could come close to that level of talent. On the other hand, the 17 warriors had the 17 Cavs who again had lebron kyrie (who everyone said was better than curry at the time) and love compared to curry (who at the time was being called the third best pg behind Westbrook and kyrie) Klay who most people would say was never a top 10 player, KD who isn’t a top 10 player all time and is only the 3rd greatest sf ever, and Draymond (who everyone called overrated and trash until they signed KD then he was called a 4th all star to make it seem like the gap between the teams was that unfair.)
      3. Lebron forming the Cavs superteam while being the best player in the league, love being the best pf in the league, and kyrie being a top 3 pg in the league was expected to once again dominate the nba because no other team had that level of star power. The only reason everyone overlooks lebron forming this superteam is because he was “coming home” which made it ok since he returned to the team he abandoned. In reality, he never would’ve returned if they couldn’t have gotten love and formed the superteam. Anyways, the warriors had curry who was only a 1x all star, Klay who was a 0x all star, and Draymond who wasn’t even a starter before that season. No one knew the warriors would become what they did but since we have hindsight, we act as though they were evenly matched going into the 15 season when in reality, the Cavs were expected to cruise to a finals win before the season began. And the only reason love and bosh didn’t make those super teams as insane as the could’ve been is because lebron couldn’t play with them at their best. He cant fit on a team unless there’s shooting everywhere so, the superstars in their primes had to be relegated to 3rd option spot up catch and shoot in the corner bigs. But then they’d catch all the blame when lebrons team loses since their supposed to be the third superstar, but the only reason they were “underperforming” was because they had to due to lebrons play style and needs.

also, kawhi did not average 30 on great splits vs the nuggets. he averaged 24 points on 44, 36, 87 splits. yall seem to forget the bad 14 point game he had which prevented the clippers from sweeping the nuggets, instead capping the series off at 3-1 and allowing a comeback in the first place. kawhi was the favorite to win the west and got a pass for blowing a 3-1 lead. now he is down 3-2 to luka and a bunch of role players after having a terrible game (turnovers in the clutch, air balled 3 with time on the clock). you should be less worried about lebron, and more worried about Kawhi's dad, Luka Doncic (even though kawhi is playing an injured Luka for the 2nd year straight lol).

Its your body and you can do whatever you want but if you walk into an a crowded elevator and let one rip I'm going to be judging you for as far as I can throw you
The warriors were a bitch for their hamptons shenanigans, and I wonder why Durant wasn't like, "wait a minute, why the fuck are you guys trying to solicit ME? I almost BEAT you with Russell WESTBRICK. HELL no!" And then join another potential contender and take payback on the Warriors there, now that would have been epic. Instead the Warriors just stack the deck for a opponent they should have beat, and Durant joined the team that beat him and kept him from making himself one of the most respected players ever if he somehow managed to win it all as well. These are just weak moves. I know you should try to make your team as good as possible and not handicap yourself on purpose, but they should have raced each other to the championship instead of drawing arbitrary cooperation. Goes against the spirit of sports imo
At least they are paying for it in the court of public opinion

Because every consensus top 10 all-time player has at least one Finals MVP with the exception of Bill Russell as the award wasn't a thing until his final season in the league (the award was named after him for a reason). Steph has to win at least one Finals MVP before he gets any serious top 10 discussion. I'm not even sure if he's top 15.

Tbh steph wasn’t the reason at all the warriors lost in 2019 not only was kd injuries but so was klay which put all the pressure on curry to carry the offense and he kept it close even with the double teams he faced and let’s be honest curry has faced a lot of double teams in his career take 2018 for example curry faced around 30-40 double teams while kd faced 2 and since kd’s signing curry has had a much better record without kd then kd has without curry if anything kd signing with gs didn’t ruin steph at all cuz no matter how u spin it kd needed curry not only does curry take the pressure away from kd but curry fit him much more then Russ did and even with Russ be named the reason the thunder never won we can’t forget kd was the one to fold during that series not Russ with kd in gs he was put in an amazing situation where he had great players to take away the pressure but that also put him in a favorable situation where he’d be made the hero of the team when they win but no looked at or blamed when they lose even tho it’s quiet clear he can’t carry like other stars can and this year is a real test to that as he now has James harden underperforming and Kyrie not playing we now get to see if kd can take this team far
