Yeah, it's random. Sometimes I get completely destroyed because the game decides to spawn 30 ranged units, 15 of which will be elite snipers, and the entire room will be infested with spores.
Comparing weapon build variants to drg is quite short sighted. DRG is a game that wasn’t designed around an already existing universe. Space marine 2 needs to stay within the boundaries of respecting the lore. What do you want a red plasma pistol that sets enemies on fire?

Why were there so few ranged units? I'm buried by snipers and minoris gunners on normal. This was 90% melee terminids
Spawns are very RNG. Sometimes part of a route will have 5 ranged Majoris and sometimes it will be 5 melee minoris instead.

Different RoF/projectile speed/explosion aoe/burst patterns are all things that can be played with
