  • I’ve learned so many things over the years in my cake decorating journey, and in this tutorial I’m sharing one of my favorite decorating hacks every….using cake discs for sharp edges! There is nothing worse than a crooked, messy looking cake- and believe me, I’ve been there! Finally I discovered the trick to a clean, finished, perfectly balanced cake and it’s all in using an acrylic cake disc to create sharp edges and lines. In this tutorial I’ll give you details on how I use mine to achieve the perfectly smooth iced cake!

Hi christina, ah people can be cruel sometimes, you shouldn't take any notice, your doing something that you love and teaching others what you have learnt, all that matters is that the people you love enjoy your cakes, I know my cakes aren't perfect but my friend and family adore my baking and that's good enough for me. You carry on doing what your doing because I enjoy your videos I've learnt from them and i know your family enjoy your cakes, thankyou 💕

I've never seen just the top used before! I will definitely be trying it this way as I have removing the bottom acrylic disc, it always leaves marks on my cake. I will say, this method is much easier with a European buttercream like Italian meringue buttercream. I can literally hear the grit of this American buttercream.

I’ve found if you use acrylic discs on the bottom and top of the cake I get a better finish, I’ve had the discs for a while and gave them ago, definitely will be my go to now…xx

Do you only use the top acrylic? I’ve got the top and bottom ones. And today I decided I was only going to use the top acrylic and had a disaster. I didn’t place the disc on top of my buttercream cake properly so there’s even space to fill with buttercream and one side of the cake I was scrapping the ganache underneath. Then I got an air bubble LOL that wouldn’t pop. Oh the dramas. With the acrylic discs I cover mine with its called in-between here in Australia it’s like a freezer plastic bag and I stick it to the discs. And I cover my disc I would place on top with heaps of buttercream then push down n the cake.

I have thought about getting acrylic disc's in the past but have not done a lot of research on them. I can see where they would be a huge help for getting a nice-looking cake. I'm assuming you purchased yours on Amazon. Did all of the sizes come in one package or did you buy yours individually? It always takes me a long time to get straight sides and even at that there is always room for improvement LOL! Your final cake looked really good. Thanks for sharing!! I just finished 2 birthday cakes (1 for Presley and 1 for Zoe) and the acrylic discs would have been a help ( Thanks for "heart" on Facebook! The party was at my daughter's house and both girls liked their cake.
    Happy Caking!!

I’m so glad I started using these! Some people can make straight cakes by talent …that’s just not me haha! I actually got my disks from cakesafe, but I think they them on Amazon now. Your cakes impress me - YOU should have the RUclips channel!
