It's more than just this relay. The compressor oil is very cheap and degrades after a few years - depends how hard the compressor has to work. As oil wears down, compressor too wears down and take longer too cool down, so overheats even more.. and wears down even faster. It's designed to fail after 3-5 years, depends how often you open door or put fresh items to be frozen

Since it's dead anyways, I might as well try to fix it myself, I mean, it can't be more broken than it is.
Sounds like your relay was OK but the overload protector did it's job as a glorified fuse and had to be replaced. Logically that would be the first step in this situation, before investing in the more expensive relay assembly. Good to know it is there, so thank you.

I'm not sure but I think I have the opposite issue here. My upgright freezer (on a frost free freezer) over freezes the coils and then nothing stays cool. and everything starts melting. Now I know why no water does not land in try its the condensation from floor, but could this be heat from the freezer drifting towards the pantry area floor causing the amount of condensation or would you think its heat from kitchen getting trapped in pantry,
So, you were correct, my misses said it never happened a few days ago only a tiny tiny amount, this must have been when the weather was less cold or less heating on that day.
@@piecetoyou8285 yeah. That has happened to me. I’ve seen the freezer have condensation when it gets ready warm or cold.
Have same relay switch as in your video, but can't find part number to order new switch. Can I get info to get a switch like in your video? Thanks! Currently using an RC 410(?) and freezer works, but would like correct part.
You got it. I have a link for the switch I used in the description. Let me know if that works. Thanks
@@TryThisDIYFix Got it. Thank you very much!
great info!! very helpful

What is the name of the part that you changed to buy on Amazon?
Hey, thanks for watching. I have links for both items in the description of the video. Check those out and let me know if that helps. Thanks.
Hi! Does the relay switch just pop off? Unplug?
Yes, it just unplugs.
What is the relay part number
Hey Kimberly, I’m not 100% sure but there are links in the description with the parts. Thanks!
How i can take that relay out
You will just unscrew the few small screws.
what if its flooded what should i do??
Your cooler is flooded? I would get it all out and try to find out where the water came from.
I'm not sure but I think I have the opposite issue here. My upgright freezer (on a frost free freezer) over freezes the coils and then nothing stays cool. and everything starts melting. I've replaced the thermostat but from what i've read it can be the heating element or this Defrost timer that's in the back of the freezer. Your thoughts sir? FYI, everytime I replace the Defrost thermostat it works for about 2 to three months then the same thing happens again.
Hmm that is weird. You might have a shirt somewhere if I keeps doing that. You might want to see if there is an issue somewhere in the line or even in the wall. You might also need to replace the item I did as well since that could also be the problem. Let me know if you find anything. Thanks for watching!
@@TryThisDIYFix Thanks! I decided I'm going to replaced the heating element and defrost timer as those can only be the last two culprits that I can think of. I'm not a refrigeration tech so these are only guesses from video and stuff I read on line.. I figure it's way cheaper than buying a new one.
@@systemfailed9106 yeah that’s a good call! Let me know if those work.

How do you get the relay switch off
There are a few screws that you need to remove. Then the black piece will come off.
I meant the actual relay switch I already got the black cover off. @@TryThisDIYFix
Thank you

So our 1 YR OLD , upright freezer stooped working after we lost power for an hr. Its a Media . So the appiance CO WHERE WE MADE THE PURCHASE , company sent out a tech from a repair co . The tech got it started and said it was a FAULTY , computer chip board . Its been running fine now for a whole week . The appliance company CALLED ME AND said its not worth fixing and gave me a refund . It was going to take 2 weeks for the part to come in . Since its been running for a whole week without issDOES , that mean that its really ok now TIA
If they say is faulty I would probably go with them. You can use it but it might go out. The main problem you have is loosing all the food in your freezer. But if it’s working you can use it for some items as well.
@@TryThisDIYFix TY .I did 2 things . I purchased a Refrigmatic Voltage and Surger protector and a thermostat for freezers with an alarm . I will let it run for another week before putting in just a little bit of frozen food .
@@LoveLife-wy8gt great call I was thinking about the alarm.
Do you by chance know the part # for the relay switch? I have checked on Amazon and unable to locate it. Do you know if I could get it at Lowes or Home Depot?
Hmm. I don’t. Did you look in the description? I think I have a link there.
Did it make a hissing sound?
When it stopped? Or when it runs?
I figured it out, something puncture the compressor so it's leaking oil that I didn't see because they cleaned it up and didn't tell me, so that hissing sound was the compression been lost when I plugged it in, even though it's running but not cooling, so I need a new compressor ☹️
@@pablocrvzz2985 yikes. I hear ya. At least now you know! Thanks for letting me know!
Do you have a link for the relay? I have the same machine but I cannot find it. Thank you.
You got it. It’s in the description. Let me know if this helps.
My freezer is freezing half way why half is warm, so I thought it was short of gas so I refuel but the problem got worse it stop freezing
Hmm that stinks. It could be the relay switch. Maybe try that. Or it could be something clogged up.
Thanks I will try that
@@gloryamadigwe900 let me know if it works.
I can’t get that black cover off! You skipped that important step!
Did you get all the screws out?
@@TryThisDIYFix THANKS!! Yes, but it was the blasted slot and lock that was awkward. I’m playing a hunch and replacing the overload protector as it has a little flat spot on the wire, like maybe it’s a fusible link? Like your channel!
Actually a question! Where can I get just the pigtail “overload protector”? I see similar ones that come with strange black sockets. Do I need to buy one that has a similar pigtail connections??😢
From Googling around and popping out what I now know is the “tool” he’s talking about is not just the black wire but is the brown plastic can that is the “overload protector”. Continuity on that is good. Continuity on the white relay is unknown as he doesn’t tell us what posts and what readings to deal with.
So, I guess I’ll order just the relay but I’m wondering if the thermostat be blown and cause a stoppage? The one wire looks heat stressed. Help me please!
@@tomhayden3706 keep me updated on if replacing the relay worked.
Where did you source the parts?
I found them on Amazon.
I have a link in the description.
Nice job!
Thank you.
Any ideas on how to get the box off? I unscrewed it but mine is not popping off as easy as yours did in the video. I am hoping to follow what you did. Thanks for any suggestions. :)
Hmm. Make sure there aren’t any other screws. And there could be some clips on the box somewhere. See if you see any on there.
@@TryThisDIYFix will most definitely look. Thank you for your quick response.
@@LindaSKane you got it. Lmk if that works.
@@TryThisDIYFix I am still unable to get the box off. There seems to be 1 clip that doesn’t want to cooperate in the back. :( I’m usually pretty good with following the instructions but this is definitely challenging.
Yah!! Success it is off!!! 🤪😀
Hi we just picked one of these up that gets cold but not freezing. Going to try and fix it. Wheres the most reasonable place to buy a relay? Tysm

Video name is misleading…..freezer is not cooling or compressor is not starting ? That’s a big difference
Sorry about that. I was just trying to get to say what was happening.
You fail to fully explain on how to fix it. Just removing cover is without proper identification of fault and how to fix i lacking there.
Yeah sorry about that. It was my first video. Sorry it didn’t help.
My hair Thermocool is not freezing
Hey Ability, did you see the piece I changed on mine? That might work for you as well.
Here's a question, i sell ice cream, I moved my freezer around a lot it basically sat on a trailer that I pulled behind my car, did that for at least 4 months & never had an issue, I bought a handi van to sell ice cream from, I loaded up my freezer into it, didn't do anything major to it, turned it on, the next day I went to check on it, wasn't working properly, so I'm unplugging it for about 30 mins, I hope that works, but if not, any ideas?
Dang sorry about that. Some have a reset switch, so make sure that isn’t tripped. Also did you try the fix from the video? That might help as well.
@@TryThisDIYFix im going to plug it back in and see if that helps, the compressor was warm, running for a quick sec but turned off again
@@Negative.headspace yeah. Let me know if that works. I could also be the relay switch.
@@TryThisDIYFix it didn't work, I unplugged it, plugged it back in, runs briefly then shuts off, ill talk to an appliance repair man tomorrow
