nope. i've always loved the allman brothers. doesn't take another of them passing to make me watch their videos. forever musical legends, dead or alive.
This song has always brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes happy ones others sad. Today is both. Dickie has been a hero of mine for a very very long time. Rest in peace you amazing man.
Dickey Betts never stood in Duane's shadow because Duane realized how great Dickey is. Any Allman Brothers fan knows that the lineup with Dickey is always better.
Dickey is great but they certainly were a better band with both Dickey and Duane on guitar and with Gregg singing. Dickey was not Duane's replacement they were both Great and better together than apart.
Perhaps we can all take solace in that Dickey, Duane, Gregg, Berry, & Butch are all jamming together again, upstairs. Bless them all for the music & memories they gave us.
Dickey Betts, Greag and Duane were the best together. I can't imagine life without DIckey Betts writing Blue Sky and all the songs Greg wrote.. Just like Lennon/McCartney
These guys forged a place in history that can never be changed. I grew up listening to these songs .....and 5 decades later we cant get enough of the purity and soulfulness of the greatest band in America......The Allman Brothers Band.
One of my favorite Dickey Betts Songs loved this version of the ABB. Dickey wrote this song about his time with his ex wife Sandy Bluesky who was Naitive American. He changed some of the wording to make it more appealing to more people. He sang about the Blue Sky rather than a woman he loved. But he new and most diehards know it was about his ex wife. Regardless of that its a beautiful song with Dickey's tone and the meshing of the twin guitars together.
You are correct my friend Warren can hang with any one when it comes to the slide. Mr Betts is a guitar god . If you think of a true rock star ,that would be Mr.Betts
Duane started the band and was definitely the driving force but after he died Dickie kept it going and was a damn good song writer. If it weren't for him I would have never gotten the chance to see The Allman Brothers. It really tears me up to watch him struggle today. Incredible musician
Duane And Dickey actually started ABB. They were Tight and Duane wanted him with him. The Irony? Dickey insisted to Duane that they Needed Gregg as their singer!!
Sorry I never saw Dwayne. Before my time. As it was for many of you. I did have the pleasure of seeing this version of the ABB and I can say this was the best besides for the original. Dickey was special.
We've Never Framed Up A House Without Listening Whiles To The Allman Brothers Band! Fox! Rock's Czar Nailgun! Jesus On The Cross! Are Oui Trying To SPEAK!
Back in the Day.. It was the Allman Brothers and when Duane passed.. It was a very sad loss..But Spirit was so very Kind to us that ,,. the Show must go on.. Spirit turned us on to replace Duane with Warren.. Wow can't even amalgamation of trying to fill those Shoe's! What a Fanatic job He did for the Allman Brothers Band.. I Thank Spirit and Warren .. The Show must go on!! Even Dusty Hill told ZZ Top to keep on playing. Thank you for this Awesome video
For many years, I connected the Allman Brothers Band to just one song, Midnight Rider, and thought "what's the big deal with this band?" Long story, but I was eventually exposed to the studio recording of Blue Sky. It was a transformative experience - pure magic. And it is still magic every time I hear it. After that, I made a point of listening to more Allman Brothers, and then I understood what the big deal was with this band.
As soon as I heard, let’s find his music, born in 1962 , during the 70s, Allman Brothers band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pure Prairie League, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, etc. southern country, believe it or not I saw a lot of these bands down on Cape Cod, Massachusetts at the Cape Cod Colosseum. Rest in peace, dickey Betts ❤ we are all better people today for you in our lives.
agree, missed out on Duane, but saw a couple of shows at the beacon during this period. mind-blowing. don't forget Gregg. he was a survivor. RIP Brothers...
Dickey is one of the greatest rhythm players ever. No doubt about it. His rhythm playing is really what makes his solos so great because even they themselves are extremely rhythmic as well. Dickey is one of the few players that could play a 3 minute solo that you can hum every note to for years to come. So melodic it's insane.
From watching these videos, they never play this, or just about anything else, the same way twice, on purpose, I am sure, but they are always great. They always leave me shaking my head, in wonder.
I knew Dickey Betts was one of the best Guitarist but after watching this video I have found greater respect for his playing, Top Notch! I just can’t see him taking backseat to anyone on lead guitar he may not be the best but the class he is in it don’t take long to call the roll!!
Warren Haynes is a monster player and a voice to match the monster guitar skills,...he and Derek trucks will be sorely missed as Allman Brothers,....thank God for Government Mule and The Derek Trucks Band!
one of the greatest bands in music love there songs thank you for all the great songs rip in peace to those who died. who will live on with there music
Warren makes that slide look just like another digit. He gives a great lesson on slide right in this recording... Thanks you guys for all the music...Blessings, Ed
Looks like the Saturday Night Live stage perhaps? A rehearsal without an audience? Anyway, I love this era of ABB. The whole band is amazing. But mostly I adore Dickie's guitar tone and phrasing. Thanks for posting!!
As some have asked if this was on SNL, it was not. It was the Dennis Miller Show 1992. (Dennis was a SNL alumni of course, but his show was filmed in LA not NYC). They also performed a lovely acoustic version of Melissa. Great stuff from The ABB.
We're all here for one reason..
part of the soundtrack of our lives.

Dickey Betts leaves us with an example of a brilliant lifetime of music making. We are all better for it!
You can see Warren currenty
Warren fits perfectly with the band.
Absolutely
Dickey is now the Ramblin Man in the Blue Sky. RIP, sir.
This song has always brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes happy ones others sad. Today is both. Dickie has been a hero of mine for a very very long time.
Rest in peace you amazing man.
Thank you for keeping great music alive.damn those were days
I used to sing this to my young son when he was dying. He miraculously survived and it still brings tears to my eyes to hear it. Thank you Dickie.

Doesn't get any better , Dickey Betts the Grestest guitarist hands down..🎶🎸🎵🎼❤️
Man can Warren belt out the harmonies! Love it!
i love the phrasing of dickey betts. i never heard guitarist had this melodious licks.
Just a Great Southern Rock Band !!!! Hands Down The BEST !!!!
Years ago Dickey played my hometown with his solo band, and I got to interview him. Wonderful, charming, soft-spoken - I'll never forget it!
Who in the hell would give this a thumbs down?
Bob Rennegarbe drunk happy bros
I’ll give it a thumbs up and cancel out the thumbs down

What a guitar player.Dicky is on a class of his own.
Great Version. Warren amazing slide player and Dickey was at his best during this period....

Allman Bros in all variations: the best rock band in history. Just wish one video would shout out to the bass players.
RIP Barry Oakley

Duane And Dickey actually started ABB. They were Tight and Duane wanted him with him.
The Irony?

The 2nd best line up besides the original!! Peace of mind in these troubling times.
What a jam! Doesn't get much better than this...
the best one two guitar combo music has ever seen!!!
Best ABB lineup since the original band. Dickey, Warren and Allan Woody
Navigatormonkey:
The line-up with Warren and Allen Woody lasted from 89-96 and contains some of the best, most inspired playing from Dickey and Warren
Actually 1997. Warren and Allen left the band after the 1997 Beacon run.

The song didn't have slide originally and doesn't need it. Warren should have stuck to fretted lead for that song, Duane did.
Man could he play..what a talent rip dickey
This is a good version but the live performance in Germany around the same time is smokin' hot

I always did dig Warren Haynes on that slide guitar, along with his lead work- Just can’t beat Duane Allman + Dicky Betts, when he was not on Hiatus.
forgot how great of a slide player Warren is...he always said vocals were his passion and guitar was second, certainly shows in his lines.
