I just bought the 2021 G90 Ultimate with the 420hp 5.0L V8 engine. I LOVE it. There are not a lot of them on the road, so there is some uniqueness. My S550 was not unique, there are tons of them around where I live
I love this car, and this brand, and your reviews! But wireless carplay isn't a dealbreaker for me personally - I feel like wireless phone chargers don't charge my phones efficiently or quickly enough and are prone to overheating, so the plug in carplay helps for that, and I've also just had better usability with the wired carplay in my 19 Sonata versus wireless in newer Hyundais at work. But again, this is just me
If I were shopping in this space, it would be an S-Class or this. Absolutely gorgeous and all the right luxury touches (not screens). Cue the Mood Curator, please.
Good review. I wish Genesis well (I bought a 2023 G70). They should do fine overall because of the Asian market, but I wonder if they have enough non-conformist, non-brand-snob types in the US and Canadian market to make a go of it. Well, here's hoping. They do score a lot of style points, though.
This car is amazing in almost every aspect! I recently surprised my wife with the 2024 E Supercharged in Makalu Gray with the all white interior. This is our 5th Genesis vehicle and her 2nd G90, which is a 2021 5.0. In silver with the taupe interior. My wife says the 2024 is only missing the 5.0 8 cylinder. If she wants more acceleration, she just jumps in her 2022 C8 Corvette LT2 Z51. Remember, a happy wife is a blessing!😇
I honestly love it but i really dont get the big grey buttons on across from the gauge cluster. That one well 2 Big Grey buttons look 1990s Buick to me.
That back seat reminds me of the old Lexus LS600h. CarPlay uses a combination of bluetooth and a (closed) wifi connection. Maybe HMG haven't figured it out yet?
Honestly, I've given up on this brand. Service at dealerships is atrocious and if a part breaks the wait for a replacement is eternal. Regardless of whether they separate the dealerships or not, if the service quality doesn't improve, I don't foresee much success and it'll be a repeat of Infiniti more or less.
@@stevehammes The products themselves are exceptional, at least in finish and looks (nobody can question that) but the technicians aren't sufficiently trained to service most of Genesis models, which is why it can' take weeks to address a breakdown (if properly addressed that is). They also keep little to no spare parts on inventory, so any component that breaks is usually ordered straight from Korea and that process also takes weeks. I'm beginning to think that they're speeding up electrification across the entire lineup due to the simplicity in servicing electric based platforms. For anyone considering a Genesis, please heed my message. And I speak from experience, G80 and then a GV70. Both, sadly, plagued with issues. The warranty is only good if the dealerships know how to work on these cars. In my case, it's been next to worthless.
@@philhenderson3516 There goes that reliability angle that people love to tout here. What 99% of these people don't get it that the GV70, GV80, G80 and G90 are all brand new and unrelated to the cars the they replace and/or their totally new models. All the reliability data, at least long term data is based on the the OLD Genesis models, not the new ones. People keep saying the G90 will be reliable, but there zero data on the car as it's brand new and totally unrelated to the previous car. The rollout of the brand has been half-assed to say the least. Great looking cars for sure, inside and out, but they totally shite the bed everywhere else concerning the luxury product experience and support.
@@MercOne That is the reality, unfortunately. I've been very supportive of Hyundai/Kia as they've been putting a lot of pressure on competitors, particularly the Japanese, but it's disappointing and embarrassing to buy a luxury product only to be treated like cattle. Corporate also doesn't seem to care about the mishaps, so you're pretty much on your own. I owned a Stinger prior to the Genesis's and the service experience at the Kia dealership was night and day compared to Genesis. As crazy as it may sound, they may actually need to learn a thing or two from their sister brand.
Great review, Steve! Other than value, which is significant, is there any feature that you especially appreciated, or thought that they do especially uniquely or well? 🤔
I had a 2018 and 2021 Genesis G90 5.0 Ultimate (every single option available), and I absolutely loved the Lexicon stereo in both of them, but otherwise they were nothing but problems. SO MANY ISSUES, so many tows to the dealership, so many electronic issues, so many mechanical issues, so many dead batteries, NON-STOP shaking/shimmying on the highway, and on and on. A free navigation update ruined the stereo and multiple dealerships couldn’t fix the problem. I said goodbye after spending $75,000 and then $80,000. I tried. I paid. It was a terrible reliability experience. No thanks. Never again. Good luck Genesis owners! The dealership experience SUCKS and the interface updates cause problems every time. Read the owner forums and you’ll see what I mean. I took meticulous care of both of them. Such a shame. Such beautiful vehicles. Genesis can’t properly service or fix their vehicles, yet they want you to pay close to or over $100K. It reminds me of Chrysler’s LH vehicles in the mid-90s. Beautiful vehicles, but total junk.
@@QuePaso-2024 mine had a V8. The shaking was from bad tires and/or rims, and other structural issues. Both G90s. It’s actually a common but extremely annoying problem with these vehicles.
I understand the annoyance of not having wireless CarPlay however, from my experience, I find myself still just using the plug because wireless CarPlay drains my battery on my phone too fast
Yes, it can live in a S-Class world for sure. Thrive? I'm not so sure. 100K is a lot to hand over to a grimy Hyundai salesman, unless you live near one of the 5 stand alone Genesis dealers in the U.S. The steering wheel is hideous AF. Why would you only treat the driver to the best sound? It's the details that keep cars like this behind.
The reason H/K/G I'd not able to get wireless AA/AC is due to the contract of Tom Tom. The next generation G90 will have wireless connectivity like the new Hyundai Kona.
Not sure what Genesis brings to the table other than soft cushions and disproportioned front grills. Technologically it's dated, don't see any innovations that would justify the pricetag either. You're comparing apples with onions here. Mercedes-Benz owns 90% of all auto patents, including air bag and other safety critical technologies. Instead of holding on to these technologies, they have shared it with others because they value life. The ancestor of today’s automobiles was the Benz Patent Motor Car of 1886. This three-wheeled vehicle has been further developed by generations of engineers. Since that year, Daimler AG alone has registered patents for 120,000 innovations.
The G90 will kill the s-Class at price of usd72k max. Their production wont cover customers demands, roads will be full of Genesis Brand, and in 10yrs, good byes toyota, lexus, Audi bmw. Just mercedes and genesis will be market leaders. I own GV80 2022, bought it new, at usd87k, coz its an suv, it should be expensive than g90, so g90 needs to be at72 and see what happens.

Still, this G90 still costs $25k less than a equally equipped S-Class or 7-Series.

Interesting take. I do think the dealership experience (and lack thereof) is a huge problem for Genesis.

Will this car be as durable as an LS500? I’m seriously shopping the two, getting rid of my sports car!
Strengthening the roof and taking a picture with an Elephant on top - might give Genesis a shot at the Volvo buyer.
