Kiki's delivery service is probably my first watched animated movie. When I was 6, now I'm 27 and I still rewatch it in couple of years, either alone or girlfriend. The story, music and visual are just as good as honey and so relaxing. I will show this movie to my kid as well, it teaches a person should be independence and responsible with his job.
Rough, but yeah. It's like they're dead set on having something to prove. In every single film, the girl character has to PROVE that she's tough and independent. The strong-and-pretty-and-smart-and-independent-and-absolutely-flawless cliché is reeeally wearing on me. That's why I like Ghibli characters - they have flaws. Sometimes major flaws. But they all come through and become better people for it. I relate more to an imperfect character.

Carbonated Turtle Yeah I know. Scenes like the opening scene, the mother dying and then the little sister dying kept coming back to me after months of watching it. I tried to get more people to watch it but the trailer made them depressed so they decided not to watch the entire movie.
I'm 32 now but this movie immediately warms my heart like no other. Kiki's isolating road to growing up and independence is something we can all relate to, there is no magic she can channel to overcome being 13 except self reliance. This is such a beautiful nuanced film, emblematic of Ghibli's best.
The flying scenes are incredible. You feel the weight of Kiki on the broom as she soars. In other cartoons with flying characters, such as Superman, they tend to fly very fast and light as if there's no gravity or air resistance. Kiki's Delivery Service was my first introduction to Studio Ghibli films. It is also my favorite movie out of all the Studio Ghibli films.
I watched this movie at the right time in my life. I was a fresh University graduate and I found it hard to find a job and fit in. I felt like I could do anything but alas hope was starting to fade away. I then found my Osono-san aka my first boss who saw potential in me. Even then I experienced many trials and hardships like Kiki in her delivery service. At times I felt discouraged but Kiki is a reminder for me to push forward. I never thought I could ever relate to a 13 year old anime witch but here I am years later looking up to her still
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid and being totally taken by the adventurous spirit of the movie.. wishing I could live in that world. Beautiful film.
I watched this movie with my parents in my childhood. Now, I watch this with my kids. I always feel like "Life is adventure" while watching Kiki's delivery.
I am playing this music every morning welcoming my kindergarten students to classroom. The music brings calmness as they enter and play quietly waiting for class to begin. Thank you
@@QronoZ713 It IS. Hayao Miyazaki originally pitched an idea to Astrid Lindgren to make an animated movie about Pippi Longstocking and traveled to Sweden. For some reason Lindgren didn't give her blessing for this project and at first it appeared as if Miyazaki's project would be abandoned. He then realized that what he had seen in Sweden would serve as a good setting for the planned animated adaptation of "Kiki's Delivery Service". The production team therefore went to Stockholm and Visby and took pictures of the classic architecture and typical old town streets and used that as a basis for the fictional town in the film. Leotique's whole comment unfortunately tells about a complete lack of understanding of foreign architecture styles since the fictional city in "Kiki's Delivery Service" looks *nothing* like French cities and *definitely* not like the Italian cities. I mean had he/she said German or even Austrian culture I could have accepted that but French and Italian?? Dutch I could have accepted somewhat. Clearly this person either has travelled nowhere, never been in Europe or simply has no eye for the aesthetic and certainly not typical architect styles. On top of that all the signs on the shops sound typically "Germanic" which is why I can't understand how anybody would believe they're Italian or French. Stockholm and Visby in Sweden were the templates Miyazaki's animation team used. OP clearly knows nothing but jumps to hasty conclusions. I believed fans of these amazing animated films would at least care to do a little background research about them in how they came to be and what they were based on rather the crudely assuming something. As for "the culture of the late 80's" it's equally nonsensical. Miyazaki typically doesn't set his films in the present and even if he does he has an anachronistic style (older items and styles meshed into the modern setting) in which there can be people wearing more 50's looking clothing, driving typical "classic cars" such as the Volkswagen Beetle (which certainly were rare in the late 80's) and old trucks (look so much charming than modern ones). Tv crews look more like early 70's reporters. It's not even specified exactly when "Kiki's Delivery Service" takes place but knowing him it's clear it's fictional fantasy setting and an "idyllic world". Notice the airship. Those appear in most of Miyazaki's films. There hasn't been any airships in Europe since the 1930's (following the 1937 Hindenburg disaster it's not hard to see why). It's Miyazaki's own fantasy world where different styles mix and which would appear anachronistic to those who don't understand his world building. Telling a story through an unique visual is his hallmark and this is why he doesn't seem to repeat himself and do the same story set in the same setting again and again and again like so many film makers. In "Kiki's Delivery Service" he basically has managed to create a big city with a small city style and feeling. The only thing I can think of is that the OP actually believes Hayao Miyazaki just went to some European city and copied it straight off which would explain the naively idyllic vision of cities looking like that in the late 80's which is kind of cute but far from reality. Long story short: Stockholm and Visby were the cities they used as a template - particularly the older parts with classic architecture for a more idyllic setting.
@@McLarenMercedes That's quite a lot of ad hominems eh? I liked your comment though but I recommend staying a bit more neutral while trying to educate people.
@@McLarenMercedes well I'm from Switzerland and lived in Germany and France, also visited Italy many times since it's my neighbor country, never been to Stockholm and I haven't watch Kiki yet. But I've traveled through most of Middle and Western Europe, North Africa, South, and Southeast Asia, to know that Ghibli movies get their inspirations from middle European and East-Asian cities. Also, my statement wasn't only about this movie, but about Ghibli in general. The city structure and typography of this trailer might by very germanic (in german we call this Gotisch) but the scenes with the car and smaller streets surely resemble Italy or France in the '80s. Your comment tells about a complete lack of understanding opinions, seems like you've got lots of time during quarantine ;)
I'm currently in the middle of watching this and this is my first every time watching anime and I am already obsessed! the animation quality is amazing for 1989!!
When I was around 3 or 4,I used to watch this movie over and over. Ten years later, I've discovered the title and watched it again. I still cried. Also,I came to the realisation that I have some things in common with Kiki ;)
This movie still holds up to this day. What makes it still relevant is that it's about independence and being on your own which will connect with many young adults.
as a kid I imagined living in a town just like the one kiki goes to, I really was enchanted with the town, it stayed in my heart for very long. and i completely forgot about it until I had to move away to study somewhere and ended up in a town exactly like the one from my childhood and kiki's! a little magic in a mundane day to day :) thank you miyazaki.
Saw this 20 years ago when i was 16 after hearing about it on the internet and hyping up that it's coming to the US on video and reading about it in magazines, i rented it and loved it and been one of my fave anime movies and animated movies.
I just watched this movie. I like it more than I even expected. I didn't find a a single scene boring, maybe because I found it easy to relate to. I also like how Miyazaki's plot unpredictably (because there really isn't one) and naturally unfolds. It works well for this kind of story. One of the best ghibli films for me.
What a nice message of making it in a life when everyone's discourage you. I really recomend people to watch this movie at least once in their lives !!
Though I know I am going to sound very ballsy here. So anyone out there who loves this film just as much as I do, please be honest with me when I say, should they make a sequel to this, or a TV series, or should they just leave it alone.
+Jacob Carpenter I love this film so much too and right after watching it I really wanted something more like a sequel or a Tv series. but to be truly honest now I feel like it should be left alone and let it be a masterpiece in itself adding something else to it would kind of ruin the magic of it if you get me. :)
Such a pleasant movie. One of the few that I've personally watched that had no where in particular to go, and just relished in the world and lives presented to us in such an effective way. Only saw it for the first time as an adult and I just wish I could have been exposed to it in my childhood.
I've been listening to a lot of peaceful music, and this is by far the most amazing piece. It instantly took my spirit flying over beautiful oceans and mountains. Thank you for creating this sheer peace itself !!
yeah me too i kinda want to see a part 2 where everything is fine. The sadness is because i think we want to see what happens next, and they don't provide us with that i feel kinda the same way.
The same thing goes for my neighbor totoro it just hit me with nostalgia with the quiet nature around the house and it hits me so hard and i kinda want to experience it again. Just imagine you with you grandparents or with your parents on a quiet field in the summer.
I just finished watching it on Netflix now, and I honestly thought It was a beautiful film, but something made me a little sad about it, like I know she's going to continue to see her parents, but I wish it had kind of ended with Kiki arriving home
This song is called "Yasashisa ni tsutsumareta nara" by Yumi Arai, in case anyone was curious. It's trul an excellent song on its own, but it fits well into the ending of the movie too.

I never thought I could ever relate to a 13 year old anime witch but here I am years later looking up to her still
One of my favorite movies i enjoyed has a child
David Rey First anime-style thing I ever watched
Mines was castle in the sky and I still love iy
One of the bestest
Thee KinG ikr this film made me love animes idk how to explain i mean its like paris or idk i just cant explain u know?
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid and being totally taken by the adventurous spirit of the movie.. wishing I could live in that world. Beautiful film.
I'm 28 and still love this movie so much. Makes me feel so relaxed and happy.
India has still not achieved 1% of this quality animation which has been made 30+ yr back from now. Kiki is so heartwarming.
Studio Ghibli: Kicking Disney's magical ass since 1984

Hell Fucking Yeah!
Honestly your so right
I watched this movie with my parents in my childhood.
Now, I watch this with my kids.
I always feel like "Life is adventure" while watching Kiki's delivery.
I am playing this music every morning welcoming my kindergarten students to classroom. The music brings calmness as they enter and play quietly waiting for class to begin. Thank you
The Japanese understood the French and Italian culture of the late 80's much better than the Italian and French themselves lol.
This is supposed to be in Stockholm?
@@McLarenMercedes Wow, what a long answer. I have friends who live in both Visby and Stockholm, and thought I almost recognized some of the streets.
The music in the background gives me the feeling of nostalgia for some reason
I'm currently in the middle of watching this and this is my first every time watching anime and I am already obsessed! the animation quality is amazing for 1989!!
🎉
これ見てるだけで心が浄化される
When I was around 3 or 4,I used to watch this movie over and over.
Ten years later, I've discovered the title and watched it again.
I still cried. Also,I came to the realisation that I have some things in common with Kiki ;)
This movie still holds up to this day.
What makes it still relevant is that it's about independence and being on your own which will connect with many young adults.
this ghibli is the perfect world i want to emerge into(plus when i was a kid i felt in love with kiki)
Ghibli created so many wonderful memories, imagine the impact of this film back to 1980s
This movie always had that extra cozy feeling compared to other Ghibli stuffs
One of my favorite movies of all time. I don't mean just anime, either!
as a kid I imagined living in a town just like the one kiki goes to, I really was enchanted with the town, it stayed in my heart for very long. and i completely forgot about it until I had to move away to study somewhere and ended up in a town exactly like the one from my childhood and kiki's! a little magic in a mundane day to day :) thank you miyazaki.
Saw this 20 years ago when i was 16 after hearing about it on the internet and hyping up that it's coming to the US on video and reading about it in magazines, i rented it and loved it and been one of my fave anime movies and animated movies.
才能が凄いな笑、溢れまくってる。
実写じゃなくて全部創作なのが凄い
I just watched this movie. I like it more than I even expected. I didn't find a a single scene boring, maybe because I found it easy to relate to. I also like how Miyazaki's plot unpredictably (because there really isn't one) and naturally unfolds. It works well for this kind of story. One of the best ghibli films for me.
My mom always love Studio
Ghibli films
TheKashirader (Kashira Hanazumu) it helps that miyazaki writes and directs all the films
Ikr me and my brother loves ghibii movies way too much if ghibii didn't envent these movies my life would be so messed up

TheKashirader (Kashira Hanazumu) and my mom😀
Seriously I have never seen a better kids film that all ages can watch and be equally enjoyed and mesmerized by.
The animation, the music, the mood, the picture. Everything about this video is perfect. Just perfect. Please stay safe, everyone.
What a nice message of making it in a life when everyone's discourage you. I really recomend people to watch this movie at least once in their lives !!
OMG, i remeber this was one of my favorite movies when i was 5. So many memories...
My favorite film.............ever.
AkosuaqueenBonsu lol Fair enough. Though if a sequel did happen, what would you want to see happen?
+Jacob Carpenter if you ask me then i think i would want to see kiki as adult and she has a family :c
1117coolman Maybe so. Maybe she and Tombo got married and are now running the delivery shop.
Honestly my favorite Ghibli movie. Always found the others a bit too strange. This one is just cute, heart warming and tearjerking.
Makes me think of the old days when I wasn't consumed by constant depression and anxiety. I'd love to go back.
Know the feeling
Same here. Those days are slowly ending for me, though. And this film is one of the things that helped me.
Europe need to preserve it’s own unique culture
Happy 30th Anniversary, Kiki. ❤
29/7/2024 - happy 35th anniversary to this wonderful classic! :) This is easily my favourite Studio Ghibli film from the 1980s.
everytime I watch kiki delivery service, I feel happiness and peace
This was the first ever studio ghibli movie I ever watched. Every time I went to my grandmas house I would watch this. This was my childhood.
Studio ghibli for the win. Every movie is just so inspiring
Disney movies are in a good tier, but Ghibli's are in a God tier.
This was one of the films that got me started on anime. Even though it came out in 1989 it still holds up to this day as one of my favorites.
I'm a ATL hood nigga and I'm 21 ... but this movie was my childhood.. love this movie so much 😁😎 .... gonna watch this again 😊
I watched this movie for the first time and it sparked a flame in my cold black empty heart.
Such a pleasant movie. One of the few that I've personally watched that had no where in particular to go, and just relished in the world and lives presented to us in such an effective way. Only saw it for the first time as an adult and I just wish I could have been exposed to it in my childhood.
“There are times when I feel sad, but I’m doing fine” ❤️✨
I've been listening to a lot of peaceful music, and this is by far the most amazing piece. It instantly took my spirit flying over beautiful oceans and mountains. Thank you for creating this sheer peace itself !!
These movies were my childhood..Studio Ghibli will always have a special place in my heart❤
im 18 and im pretty sure this is the best movie ever made im gonna watch it till i can with my kids and grandkids. gigi the goat

My favourite Ghibli and childhood film of all time :) Not to forget Totoro... :D
ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ totoro omg yass and spirted away
@@jessicornx3169 howls moving castle and princess mononoke 😭 so guuuud.
I just watch this on netflix, Idk why this anime had happy ending but It manage to left me little bit of sadness inside.
yeah me too i kinda want to see a part 2 where everything is fine.
I hope Kiki can hear Jiji like before
@@eekenny she won't be able to hear Jiji anymore. That's the price of growing up :)
This song is called "Yasashisa ni tsutsumareta nara" by Yumi Arai, in case anyone was curious. It's trul an excellent song on its own, but it fits well into the ending of the movie too.
"If I've Been Enveloped in Tenderness" is the English title. :)
happy birthday hayao miyazaki!!!
this is still my favorite of his movies and seeing it always warms my heart.(especially remember always being hyped for the preview when i watched it on my vhs for the brave little toaster.:3)
Just watched it and can’t believe it was made in 89th. Amazing animated film!
This was my favorite movie growing up ! I used to watch it so much my mom started calling me Kiki even till this day !
I got drunk and watched this show. I feel so lame but I feel genuinely happy about watching the show. Tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and continue the monobasic university life, but watching the movie I felt genuinely happy. I think that this is the magic of ghibli films, it's just got a very wholesome vibe to it. I would also recommend the wind rises by the same studio.
This is only my second Ghibli movie so opinions could change but this is seriously the most relatable movie I have ever seen
I WANT MORE BURNOUT MOVIES!!!!
The first time I watched this movie, I was 14. Idk how I stumbled on it as it's not of my culture and I have never watched a Japanese movie before and didn't know what to expect, but I am glad I did. This was one of the most soothing and mesmerizing movie I have ever watched and I still remember it 5 years later
I watched this move yesterday and iti made me feel comfortable, peace and relax. I loved it so mach.i would never forget how I felt when I was watching this beautiful move.
I adore this film. We found it when our 20-something children were young. So fun and relaxing at the same time.
I can’t wait to see this today at the library!
I watched it in 2024 I can't believe it was made in 89 . Pure bliss
This movie was just beautiful. I can't believe I haven't watched it until now

Ghibli has and always will be my favorite thing to watch
I had the luxery of watching Kiki's Delivery Service in theaters for its' 30th anniversary. Wonderful movie, not only is it a charming adventure, but it also has one of the most authentic portrayals of child life, that I ever seen in a movie.
*Words cannot express how much i love this anime. The visuals, the ost's and songs are so powerful and makes me wanna live there*
the amount of nostalgia this gave me- like i’m actually crying
魔女の宅急便見るとほんと悩み忘れて純粋な気持ちになれる。
The movement of the broomstick is phenomenal. You really feel Kiki's weight on the broom and she struggles to avoid the cars.
This is second to my favorite Studio Ghibli movies LIKE SERIOUSLY WHO WOULDN'T LOVE KIKI?! AND THAT LADY ARTIST TOO
ジブリ出一番って言っていいほど好きなシリーズ。
I never seen any studio ghibli movies but I plan to watch them with my wife when I get married
This has such a dreamy vibe to it.. like memories of summer time long ago… beautiful film
It's 2022 I still remember this sad and wholesome movie I wish I could watch it again💖💖💖💖
