This is true. Ren was attending music school, and under contract with Sony records. He started getting sick and sleeping up to 20 hours a day, Sony dropped him, and the doctors kept telling him the pain etc was in his head. They treated him as a with all kinds on meds. After over seven years, a doctor in Wales discovered he was suffering from lyme disease. He came to the US for stem cell treatment, and is now in Canada under going more treatment for issues caused by all the meds he was given that destroyed nerve sheaths in his brain.
Ren is a modern musical and story telling genius. Some people react very emotionally, and others are just speechless.
You should react to his trilogy of Jenny and Screech
    Thanks for your reaction.

Great reaction - one of many, many I have watched since I first stumbled across this via @TheCharismaticVoice and her also great and moving reaction. You captured so many of the emotions I felt during my first watching. I’m 50yo now, and I’ve been doing reactions way before reactions were a thing. Since I was a kid, I remember introducing movies to friends on HBO and VHS, sitting near them, loving the classics with new eyes as I tried not to on-the-nose telegraph my excitement for pivotal scenes/dialogue hits… and indeed trying not to be noticed that I was *clearly* vicariously re-introducing myself through their eyes by watching👀 their physical/emotional reactions… reliving the impactful beauty of the art.

This is quite the rabbit hole as he is limitless in his musical and creative talents, he’s basically a genre chameleon and it is shocking just how good he is at everything. I am so glad you shared this reaction. And please don’t ever apologize for showing your emotions. Too often we put on a brave face, rather than allow ourselves to process the pain we feel.
I’ve watched countless reactions to Hi Ren and it resonates deeply with people of all ages and backgrounds. That’s the power of music and art like this that comes from deep within an artist’s soul.
As others have commented, yes, this was a live recording and it represents a real internal struggle triggered by undiagnosed/misdiagnosed Lyme disease and periods of psychosis. He lost most of his 20s and Sony dropped him from the label when he got sick. But he’s a fighter and he is making waves as an independent artist.
Ren posted vlogs documenting the various stages of his illness and one that I watched recently was only 6 years into his battle - before he was diagnosed with Lyme disease - and he said that the one blessing was that his experience gave him empathy. And as you noted, it gave him tremendous wisdom, well beyond his years.
He is using his tremendous gifts and his heartbreaking struggles to help others and share a message of hope. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as powerful as the closing monologue. The imagery of a pendulum and our dance between the dark and the light will stick with me always. I hope that it gives you something to make your own medical and mental health journey more bearable.
The Ren rabbit hole is filled with many gems 💎 from a broad range of styles. And as you can see, the Ren community (RENegades) is incredibly supportive. I’ve subscribed and hope you will react to more Ren. Be kind to yourself 🥰

Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.

Welcome to the Renaissance. Ren is by far the most humble, genuine, raw, extremely gifted artist I have come across in a very long time. He is a gift to us all. And for those of us who are chronically ill he exposes our realities to the masses and there is comfort there. It is rare that an artist comes along and is able to touch one’s soul but he does. He has a song for every mood and a style for everybody. He is incredibly well read and often pays homage to other artists that have inspired him. He is unafraid of speaking truth to power or tackling the grittier sides of life but without being exploitative in the process. Thank you for your reaction. It was honest and genuine. Sorry to hear that you are suffering. There are many of us in similar situations. Know that we are out here if you ever need support or simply need a place to let your guard down. We understand the battle. I wish you peace.

The fact that you never gave up means you can now enjoy more of Ren's music which is quite extensive especially when we include several collaborations and his busking street band, The Great Push. Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. Ren has exceeded his initial goal. However, his goal was very conservative and did not reflect the added costs of unforeseen surgical procedures, and treatment for additional health issues such as MCAD. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

Nothing wrong about crying to this beautiful piece or art that reaches the deepest parts of us. As a failed musician, there are parts that resonate so hard with me on how I wanted to change the world with my music, but I was never able to break into the industry and life took me on a different career path. Sorry for your struggles. You were saying "I don't know if I'm going to make it to the end" and I'm so glad you did so you could get the positive message. This work of art gets me almost every time and I've watched it many times. We ALL feel this to one degree or another - as he says, "we are human beings". Oddly, it seems to hit the older guys (like me) harder than some of the younger reactors I've seen. I guess the longer you live, the more chance of having the pendulum swing very far to the dark side. I genuinely hope you get to see it swing to the light side again.
I think Ren's 33 now and others have listed his very real medical/psychiatric battles since he was a teenager, so yes, about half his life. Also yes, this is essentially a live recording, but I think they edited in some of the close-ups.

I appreciate your honesty and courage to share some of your own story, and I can empathize with you. I am 57 y/o, a totally and permanently disabled veteran who has been suffering from Chronic Multisymptom Illness (Gulf War Illness) for nearly 30 years. I have been dealing with mental health issues (Major Clinical Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Unspecified Mood Disorder) in addition to various chronic physical issues. My mental health cost me a successful military career, a marriage, and friendships to the point that I have become a total recluse for the past 13 years. Very rarely do I interact with others outside of the occasional social media (RUclips, Twitter) post. My condition was brought on by prolonged exposure to low-dose sarin nerve gas and experimental vaccines and meds during the Gulf War. A few years later, the now black-boxed use of the anti-malarial "Mefloquine" pushed me over the edge, and I experienced a psychotic episode. For over 15 years, I was prescribed a cocktail of max doses of psychotropics until I decided to carefully wean myself off all medications in 2014. The side effects of the drugs were too many and too severe, left me an emotional zombie and the benefits were negligible. I struggle with my mental health, as well as physical symptoms, daily, but I rather feel pain than nothing at all. Ren has been able to express through his songs what I have been unsuccessfully trying to communicate to others regarding my mental, emotional, and physical struggles. Each new day, I wholly rely on God for my strength and remind myself that I am doing better than I deserve; without Him, I would have "checked out" a long time ago.

Second, you are obviously a tough son of a gun to go through all of that and still be here to help support Ren and other people who are suffering by sharing your story. It’s not easy to get through each and every day. I had a psychotic episode in September because my ammonia levels were elevated and I completely checked out for 4 days. No recollection of anything I did. The Dr. Finally put me into a medically induced coma as I was a danger to myself and anyone around me. They had to get the levels of ammonia corrected until they finally woke me up. One of the many occasions of when my illnesses have gotten the better of me. I pray that in some way there is a way for you to find peace as we go through this journey of life. Thanks again and I will continue to send healing vibes! 👍

Welcome to the rabbit hole of Ren - where we all fall into and learn more about him and ourselves and about human nature in general. Ren tackles personal and social issues in his lyrics and puts us all in a contemplative state with each line and song he delivers. As he once said in one of his short videos vs. CNN - there are social and mental issues that get swept under the rug which nobody wants to talk about. But only by talking about them do we get people to understand and engaged in finding solutions.
A lot of us have shed tears over his songs so you're in good company!

First time I saw hi ren my reaction was just the same as yours.
I've suffered with mental health issues since I was 15 and I'm now 43. I mostly handled the manic depression well and did my best to navigate society and social norms but the last 10 years I've struggled with sever social anxiety and panic attacks, which in turn increased the severity of depression and also has led to severe agoraphobia.
Hi ren had me on the verge of tears almost immediately but fully broke me at hope 'the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope".
The ending is beautifully uplifting though and I found it quite cathartic.
It's so cleverly done throughout and what hits me the most that nearly all reactors I've watched have failed to notice or speculate is that when he goes back into the yodelling at the end, it's like his emotional battle has gone full circle and the yodelling with the lights flickering seems to imply that he's back at the start of the battle and about to go through it all over again such as a real mental health/psychosis episode often would do.
Like many others who've watched multiple reactions to this, seeing the reactor get teary sets me off too lol but it's good ro be able to feel so strongly for other's and have that empathy.
Great reaction, keep it up and keep well fella.

@@bShawreacts yeah it's definitely worth giving a few listens. I can't imagine anyone would catch everything in one go.
I'm doing okay really. Had to move back in with my parents in 2015 and have been here since.
I've not worked since 2015 either due to the panic attacks and agoraphobia and it's been very tough losing so many aspects of personal independence but over time I've learned to lessen expectations of myself and become content with the few little things I can do and I'm now just focusing on fixing the physical problems that have amounted over time due to not being able to make or attend dental or medical appointments for the last 8 years.
I have a roof over my head and a little bit of money to keep me going so I'm okay, I just struggle a lot with what most people wouldn't give a second thought, eg dentist apps, phone calls, even going to the shop 5 mins down the road is very hard but I'm going to do prolonged exposure therapy soon and with small steps hopefully get back to being comfortable leaving the house for extended periods of time.

@@bShawreacts Share on! The turning point for me, I think, was when someone said "Incurable means curable from within". The feeling of actually having my destiny in my own hands if I choose to, was refreshing. I started looking inside and saw how I mistreated myself, telling me I was worthless-stupid-dysfunctional. Instead, I started telling my body, organ by organ, that I love them. Like "Hi, there Liver. You know I love you right? You're important, you know." etc, sending good vibes and emotions to each organ.
In 2009 my body was ready to pack down. My physician actually didn't want to see me because I'm over-weight. (Not obese, mind you.) Which made the decision simple, to try new ways. Two years later I found a specialist who told me I had had about a week to live at that time, if I hadn't gotten the help I needed. Which was not through the public health system btw.

All the sex, violence, its about shock value and grabbing our attention, and we feel all that, its everywhere around us, but also none of it is real. So what he wants to do with his music is create something real. Emotion that is real. And more than anything, thats what people are craving, seeking out in this fake plastic world. You are who you are because you're a beast. A monster in battle. Deep breath, clear your thoughts, grab your sword and keep swinging. Crush it all and stand upon your own ashes as you've done so many times before.

Gosh man it seems like you're really going through it.
First of all condolences on the loss of your pup, that is heartbreaking. I have my cat Honey and she is the highlight of my day each day. The love for this beautiful being is unconditional ❤️
Second the health issues that you're experiencing sound terrible, I don't know enough to comment much on that except for to wish you well.
Third, Ren will bring out all sorts of emotions, thoughts and feelings we didn't know we needed really. That is absolutely nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. If you need to cry then we are here for you. I believe one of the biggest issues that we face today is a disconnect from others around us, which in an age of being pretty much able to speak to anyone in the world (e.g me writing this to you right now from the UK) doesn't really make sense.
I see through these reaction channels listening to this song in particular that we can connect. We want to connect! We are not divided! We are all human beings and we need to stop being so hard on ourselves. Big love ❤️

Thank you so much! You are absolutely 100% correct. The outpouring of love I have received since posting this is completely overwhelming (in a good way of course)! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch and for sharing your thoughts with me! Means a lot! Honestly. Hope all is well! 👍
