Spring day will always have a special place in every single ARMYs ❤. We call this song the stable queen from BTS’ entire discography. A song that can be for any person in your life that you miss.
RM originally wrote this song about missing friends, but the MV references the Sewol Ferry tragedy that killed over 300, mostly students on a field trip. I suggest checking out the explanation by Italian ARMY. Her explanation is the most detailed...she did her homework. Thank you💜

All hail her majesty Queen Spring Day 💜 this is one of the BTS songs I've listened to enough times to know almost every word (I trip up on Yoongi’s verse every time 😔).
Namjoon said he wrote this song because he was missing a friend but it grew from there to encompass so much more and the mv is absolutely a tribute. It all actually ended up getting BTS in some trouble with the government and they were on a watch/black list

All hail our Queen Spring Day! Forever reigning on her place on Melon, all these years later. I watched several documentaries about the Sewol Ferry and it's one of the most heartbreaking things to hear the full details. Such brave boys to write and produce this song in such a way that no one cohld criticize them for soeaking on the subject.
Well, they did end up on a presidential blacklist, but not only for this song. Lots of speaking truth to power during a corrupt and oppressive presidential regime.

this song helped me deal with my own grief. it was a whole year of me trying to burry my feelings and then I got to know bts and spring day. and I was crying every time this song played. they helped me to understand what I was going through and it was a first step out if the dark place I was at
when army often say "bts saved me", we mean they really did. so many of us have a song that gave us life we've lost or courage to find it
Of all the OT7 songs to start with this one is a doozy, but such a beautiful song.
The lyrics are about loss of a loved one, whether that is due to difference of opinions, naturally drifting apart, death, or something else.
During the pandemic BTS often sang this song in their online concerts and other performances. The song took on a new meaning, it was their message to their fans that though we can't be together for the time being, our spring day will come when we are reunited. That day finally came when they had their 4 soldout concerts at SoFi Stadium in LA in late Nov/early December 2021.
The song is well loved by the general public in Korea because of the 'han' it evokes. Spring Day is our our queen, and is about to celebrate it's 6th anniversary on Feb 13th. Hasn't left the Melon Charts once since debut, and is the longest charting song ever on the platform by several years. [Melon is the Korean streaming equivalent to spotify].
It’s the sound of a whistle from a ship. No it’s not winter time in August. He referring to even when it’s the hottest month in summer you can feel cold because you missing someone who is far away or has died and you are missing that person. RM is a poet! The piles of clothes represent people who have died. That scene was inspired by a French artist’s actual work, can’t remember his name but the explanation video has the info. The scene where the train is running shows the outside and there are luggage’s strewn represents the the luggage’s that came to the shores after the ferry accident. The laundromat scene it shows the clock on a wall, the time on the wall is the exact time the ferry finally sank. The door of the dryer looks very much like portholes and you see Jin’s face and upper body and he represents all the people who died.
I forgot one more important item. On the dryer doors there is a sticker and it’s says Don’t Forget. This is in reference to a speech made by a surviving student who asked the people at the memorial not to forget those who died.
Just had to pause the video before finishing it because idk if you realised but J-hope didnt have a rap verse in this song... He was actually a sub vocalist in Spring Day, so here he's singing :D
Edit: Props to you for going back and watching it again to get the lyrics! We do not mind that at all. With BTS we definitely want to make sure you understand what they are saying because very rarely will BTS make a song with plastic lyrics. Ever.

I feel one doesn't have to figure it out (especially immediately) what the song is ultimately about. With BTS I personally enjoy that interpretation of a song and how it moves me initially. Ofc the artist will have a specific intent on it, I just would hope that upon listening for the 1st time one can extrapolate what they think it means with no pressure to have an excat explanation for it. As an artist yourself, and by your overall reactions, I see that you do take that interpretation when reviewing. I hope there's no pressure on your BTS journey to have the "correct" answer straight away. At the end of the day yes there is a meaningful purpose to the song, but it can develop beyond that meaning for many. 🖤🥀

When a reporter asked Jin if the song was about a sad event (referring to the tragedy) Jin answered “Yes it is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing,”
RM and Suga also said they wrote it with their lost friend/s in mind.
The purpose of the song is to comfort people, especially those who have lost people they care about, which is why they chose this song to handle the sewol ferry tragedy.
That is a mistranslation. The question was asking what the song is about and Jin said "It is about sad events and longing," not directly referring the tragedy, but sad moments in life in general.

Been on Korea’s most important mel0n chart since it’s release. Just celebrated its 6th year within the chart. Every year during the time of the tragedy the song always rises.

Spring Day was never forgotten in the Melon chart from the day of its release until now.Its indeed a Queen of songs in Melon.
ahh the hyyh era, my favorite era. i'm not gonna say anything about it bc you already have enough on your plate but all i will say is that it's dark asf and really confusing. the visuals tie into the bts universe storyline which is the hyyh era and wings era. the Queen Spring Day is just a beautiful song. i still cry listening to it. i got goosebumps just watching this alone

This song is like Korea's national anthem it never left the charts since the beginning of 2017 it got song of the year grand prize and since we know what the meaning behind it got a special place in our hearts and all the victims parents and freinds and families said that it bring them comfort

It's a beautiful song with expressive lyrics. BTS are special , they have deep layers to their lyrics, and the visuals always tell a story. And you need to find out more. And therein lies the richness of their music complemented by beautiful rocking vocals. Just imagine 7 singers with different voices and characters carrying 1 song.

I'm going to say this now; the song lyrics, essentially, are about longing to see someone/have someone back; no one specific is mentioned in the lyrics. The M/V is widely considered to represent a tragedy in SK involving the loss of life of many young people. HOWEVER, BTS never said themselves that the M/V was about that tragedy. That's it, that is all. Carry on.

the clothes… so some artist , a photographer piled up all the clothes of the deceased teenagers and created some art piece or amazing photographs .. in the music video the pile of clothes is similar to the pictures that was of the actual clothing of all the deceased teens . those kids were forced to listen to their elders , they were told to stay behind . they died because they were brainwashed since childhood to respect ur elders so they did and they died
@Shelby Tyler I'll believe it when someone tells me where I can find it. I don't deal in hearsay when it comes to BTS. I'm not trying to be argumentative but I've been an ARMY 5 years and the amount of ARMY narratives that get paraded as things BTS has expressed is staggering. So if you know when Jin said this, let me know.
@Annie Deedrix I understand all this. What I'm pointing out is that there is a difference between the connections ARMY make and what BTS actually says. Newcomers deserve to know where that line is, that's all.

in 2014 there was a cruise ship tragedy . 250 high school students drowned and 40 of the younger crew members and some of the school teachers drowned. there were 170 survivors , including the captain and allot of the top official crew members . the captain ordered the teens to stay in of the halls or something so they did and some of the staff and crew members had to stay to ensure that the teens do not leave . so those teens died while the adults got out . the hierarchy in south korea is the reason those teens died. there is an explanation about the video on youtube . it’s about hierarchy and class division ( a reality in asian countries) and it’s about the loss of someone loved..
I was hoping that you'd cover this song eventually. Without cultural context, it's still a beautiful song but the added layer definitely adds something. The Italian ARMY explanation gives a great amount of explanation for those who didn't know about the incident referenced in the MV. The song itself wasn't writting about that but it's applies perfectly in my opinion.
