  • Our STÄRKEN Hollowblock has finally arrived. It came on a semi truck with 16 pallets in total for the entire completion of our 2 story, 164 sqm home. The AAC replaces the Hollowblock and is lighter stronger and quicker to construct then traditional hollowblock. The cost savings is roughly 30 percent by end of job. Over the course of the build we will demonstrate the benefits of using AAC vs. hollowblock. Not only will it save us money now but also in the future on energy bills!!!

    I just binged watched this whole season and caught up to this episode. I didn’t think it could get any better from the Bungalow House build, so I put off watching this one. This build is awesome, and your explanations plus the cinematography make me feel like I’m watching an HGTV show. Your expertise and attention to detail is amazing to see! I assume Donna is the one filming, putting all the footage together, making the edits, and doing all production/creative stuff and each episode always looks amazing!

    I love your choice of AAC blocks and have been waiting for this video since you started your second house. Great for insulation and reducing overall weight of the structure. Good quality delivery with almost no breakage and the blocks look as well made as the ones I know from Germany.
    I would have wanted to use AAC blocks in the house we are currently finishing, but they were not really available yet in Mindanao. Maybe on the next project.
    Did your engineer design a concrete post-and-beam structure with AAC “infill walls” or do you utilize wide flange steel beams for the structure?

      @TheRichardArmstrong  Год назад +8

      Yes. I'm anxious to get going on installation! I did another test of a block tonight and threw it up in air as high as I could to see if I could get it to break!!! Still intact.

      I watched another vlogger who build houses in Poland and he said that AAC is good for one story building only like a bungalow and recommended another type for more than one story building/house. I am not sure now as I want to build a bungalow. 🤔🤔

    • @ChristianWagner888
      @ChristianWagner888 Год назад +2

      @@teresawilliams2022 well you need to do your own research on the blocks available to you. AAC blocks from reputable manufacturers (such as YTONG in Europe) are quite capable in compressive strength and can be used for more than one story. You need to read the technical specifications and talk to an engineer. The information from the vlogger may be wrong or may apply to a very different product.
      In the Philippines generally neither CHB nor AAC blocks are used as load-bearing walls for a residential home, as they would be just as unsuitable as bricks for a required earthquake rating of about 8.0
      We use concrete and steel post-and-beam structure instead, and AAC or CHB (as well as other materials) are merely considered as infill walls by the engineer.

    Hi Richard. I'm looking forward to seeing how the AAC blocks perform in terms of handling and workability on site as well as finished product As I said to you, I am seriously interested in AAC as an alternative to hollow block for my own build. A fellow viewer replied to my earlier post, putting me in contact with a manufacturer here in Cebu named Lite Strong. Their range consists of a standard block measuring 600x200x150 and 2 other sizes 600x200x200 and 600x200x230. I am due to visit their head office in Mandaue. There is also a second company. Cool Richard, No real supplier of AAC here in Cebu (at least that I know of) so I just went with 12 inch walls, 4 inch block, 4 inch air gap and another 4 inch block. Also, helps hide the 12 x 12 columns as well. Latter will fill the 4 inch gap with spray foam later and make big cooler with it. Would have been a lot easier to just lay AAC block. Can attest that the air gap works well as the outside block in the sun is very hot to the touch yet the inside block is cool. A friends house that has just one row of block you can feel the heat on the inside wall from the sun. Your solution will help keep your house cool as your air gap is build into the block :)

Was also worried that supply would be a issue as I knew construction would take more then a year and did not want to wait weeks to get supply. Hey it sometimes takes a while just to get all the gravel and sand on site to do a 450 bag pore so getting a supply of a product that is not local was a big worry for me. Thinking back I should have used AAC.

    Are all the blocks the same size or are there different sizes for different uses?
    How much does each block weigh?

    •  Год назад

      Hi Fred, our readily available blocks in the Philippines are 4", 6" and 8" blocks, but we can do customized sizes up to 12". We encourage using 4" blocks for interior walls and 6" or 8" blocks for exterior walls.
      Weight are as follows:
      4"- 9kg/block
      6"- 13kg/block
