Hi Shawn I loved this video. I can say I'm sort of retired because I run my small business and travel around. I've been to south east Asia and now I'm in south America, which I don't think I will like as much as Asia. I'm wondering... Do you travel light? How do you keep your things and life in different places? Thank you
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I definitely travel light-I stick to one carry-on and a backpack. If I buy something, it’s always to replace an existing item. I don’t shop much for clothes, and everything I own fits perfectly in my bag so I leave nothing behind. To see my luggage, click on the Community tab on my channel and scroll down to see a photo where I shared how I downsized my luggage. Great that you’ve traveled through SE Asia and are now exploring South America! Traveling light definitely makes it easier to move around and adapt to different places. Running your small business while traveling sounds like such a fulfilling way to live.

Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible. I'm planning to retire at 61 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life and good healthcare. Here in the US more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.
The cost of living keeps going up, up and up!! Rising prices have affected my intention of retiring at 62, working part-time, and building my savings. I'm worried about whether individuals who weathered the 2008 financial crisis found it less challenging than my current situation. The stock market's volatility, coupled with a reduced income, is making me anxious about having enough for retirement.
You’re absolutely right-it feels like the traditional idea of retirement is slipping away for many people in the U.S. I actually had this discussion with friends yesterday, and we all agreed that the days when pensions provided security and people could comfortably retire in their hometowns are largely behind us. The rising cost of living, stagnant wages, and a lack of affordable housing have made it increasingly difficult to save enough for retirement. For those living in high-cost areas like Washington, D.C., retiring there is out of reach without significant financial resources. I respect your decision to plan for retirement abroad, especially since I’ve made a similar choice and know firsthand how rewarding it can be. Many countries offer affordable living, excellent healthcare, and a slower pace of life-things that seem harder to come by in the U.S. for retirees. It’s a practical and empowering way to take control of your future and redefine what retirement looks like. As you pointed out, the situation for middle-class Americans is concerning. Even for those who’ve worked hard their entire lives, homeownership and savings are becoming less attainable, which limits options for a secure retirement. It’s a sobering reminder of how crucial it is to think ahead and explore alternatives while we still have the energy and resources to do so. Hopefully, conversations like these can inspire more people to rethink their approach and take action sooner rather than later.
I completely agree; I am 60 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $1,350,000 in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, having a portfolio-advisor for investing is genius! What I figured out years back what that with proper guidance, we can predict some of these situations and take advantage of them. Have you considered seeking the help of a financial advisor, the are vital towards retirement planning.

US citizens who have never experienced another country with a different culture have no idea how competitive, stressful, overly consumptive, and violent the culture of the US is.Took my partner to Japan last year and she said it was the first time in her life she actually felt completely safe.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective and experience for others to see-excellent point! Experiencing another country, especially one with a vastly different culture like Japan, really puts things into perspective. Many people don’t realize how normalized stress, competition, and even subtle fears are in the U.S. until they step outside of it. Feeling truly safe, like your partner did in Japan, is something you can’t fully appreciate until you experience it firsthand. It’s eye-opening-and often life-changing-to see how other societies prioritize things like community, safety, and quality of life over the relentless hustle and consumption.
And Americans have been so brainwashed that the rest of the world is a scary place - it isnt. I grew up outside the States and like you said, i almost always feel more relaxed and enjoy life whenever I am in countries outside of the US... If only I could convince my other half. But i get it - it can be intimidating to leave everything you know and go somewhere you know nothing about...
Great video. I just retired in April 2024 to Udon Thani Thailand 🇹🇭. I wish that more of the Brothers and Sisters in the USA can experience the PEACE of living in a different country. I am from Los Angeles.
Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations on your retirement! 🎊Udon Thani sounds like an amazing place to begin this new chapter. What drew you to choose it? Once people experience the peace and freedom of living abroad, they rarely look back-or eventually find their way back. Wishing you all the best on this journey-enjoy every moment of that Thai life! 👏🏽
@@QueenofDC The sense of community and their family values. Like most I started in Pattaya and by chance I found myself in Udon Thani and immediately fell in love with the vibe. It's not too big a city that the rat race consumes me. It also checks all the boxes for me. I tell everyone to find there happy place in life.
That's wonderful! Once you find a sense of community and settle in, life truly becomes so much easier. It’s all about discovering what brings you joy and embracing it fully. I’m happy you’ve found your place to enjoy and thrive!
@@ninimusta336 On the SSI part I can apply in January but I still have my US Bank account but that shouldn't be a problem. I know of people who live here on SSI and also Ex Military Expats who have been here for over 20 years pulling Military Pensions so that shouldn't be a issue. I have a Thai Bank Account so in about a month I will be navigating that part of my retirement. What I have learned about being in Thailand that there are always options. LOL.
Sage advice. I'm a US expat living in Ecuador as we speak. I've studied those who thrive in expat life and those who return. No shame either way, but with better information, better mindset, and learning from the mistakes of others, you're much more likely to live well as an expat. The best and worst part of expat life are other expats. Yikes. Crazy, toxic people are no fun. And there are gems. All part of the journey.
What a thoughtful perspective! It’s true that expat life is a mix of navigating unique challenges and embracing the opportunities to grow. The contrast between uplifting connections and navigating toxic dynamics really shapes the experience. I’m not here for stress or negativity. I understand that I may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay-just as some people aren’t mine. Everyone enters your life for a season or a reason, and I take what I can learn from those interactions and move on. I don’t dwell on things that don’t add value or impact my life in a meaningful way. Thank you for sharing your journey-your wisdom is a valuable reminder of how much mindset and preparation matter. If I ever leave Southeast Asia, I would love to visit Ecuador.
Retiring abroad is like sending your kids away to college . Staying around the same places and people will stunt your growth. You will grow old and sit around talking about the same things till you die.
That’s such a powerful analogy, and I couldn’t agree more! Retiring abroad pushes you out of your comfort zone, opens you up to new experiences, and keeps life exciting. It’s a chance to grow, learn, and create fresh stories instead of staying stuck in the same old patterns. Change really is the key to staying vibrant!
@QueenofDC If you can do it, it's wonderful but when you find yourself caring for a loved one, it's really difficult to plan or do anything or even go anywhere as that's your life for a while!
@@TheZbetten I cared for my mother and my Aunt through their passing. At 67 years old now peacefully living in Bangkok Thailand. @@TheZbettenYou’re absolutely right-caring for a loved one can make it incredibly challenging to focus on yourself or make plans. It’s such a selfless and meaningful role, but it’s also important to take moments, however small, for your own well-being when you can. I've lived overseas, by choice & fortune, nearly half of my Naval career. Bought my retirement "home" in Europe two years ago. I'm thankful to have visited most of the Asian cities you mentioned except for Malaysia. Besides Japan, SE Asia, Europe, the Gulf, and Australia I've felt safe in the skin I'm in. No worries of gun violence.
Thank you for sharing!! You've had an exciting journey, and it’s wonderful that you’ve experienced so much of the world while serving in the Navy. Buying your retirement home in Europe must be such an amazing chapter! I completely agree-there’s something so refreshing about feeling safe and welcomed in different parts of the world. Malaysia is definitely worth a visit if you ever get the chance; it’s a beautiful mix of cultures, stunning nature, and delicious food. I also appreciate the peace of mind that comes with traveling and living abroad in places where safety feels less like a constant concern.

I am an Expat, 27 years in Japan. I really enjoyed your video and how cool it is that you can go wherever you want and live for however long you want to and move on if you wish. That’s really remarkable. I have traveled a lot in Asia since I am based in Japan, and loved most everywhere. But you are right, living somewhere and visiting are completely different. Even the USA! When I go home for vacation, it’s very different from living there… Vacation mode and everyday life mode are completely different. Vacation mode is every day, fun, fun, fun! As opposed to the real life responsibilities of living in that same place. I’ve hit retirement age and now I’m considering on retiring in central America. Anyway, I just found this video and I enjoyed it so I thought I’d let you know!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It’s amazing that you’ve spent 27 years in Japan-that’s such a rich experience to draw from. I'm delighted you enjoyed the video, and Japan is officially on my travel list for next year! Vacation mode can be such a contrast to everyday responsibilities. I’m really enjoying the freedom I have to explore and live around the world as I desire-it’s been such a rewarding journey. It’s exciting to hear you’re considering retiring in Central America. The high heat and humidity and infrastructure make all the difference in the world. You are so down to earth. So many people are just so desperate to get away from the crazy life in the US and Canada that they ignore those important issues.
You’re absolutely right-heat, humidity, and infrastructure can really shape the experience of living abroad. Thank you for your kind words! I think it’s so important to approach these decisions with honesty and practicality. It’s easy to romanticize the idea of moving abroad, but ignoring those everyday realities can make or break the experience.

I love Bangkok. I am a city girl also. I left Bangkok, went to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, then came back to Bangkok again. I couldn't get enough of Bangkok 😅
I went to Kuala Lumpur, then went to Bali and came back again. I love Kuala Lumpur. Very beautiful and cheap . Nice luxurious cheap apartments. Good foods. Nice shopping centers. I need to go back to Malaysia, this time I will go to other cities also besides Kuala Lumpur
KL has my heart ❤️. When people say it’s cheap, I have to laugh because, after living in Vietnam, I now pay 50% more for everything in KL-so I can’t call it cheap anymore 😂🤣. Vietnam spoiled me in so many ways, but it just can’t compete with the luxuries KL offers-it’s definitely a trade-off. When I first came to KL, it wasn’t as expensive as it is now, but compared to U.S. standards, it’s still very affordable. All that said, KL is my love!

Feel like I just spent time with a good friend, watching you. I am currently in Scotland in the flat I bought to spend time in when I retire. I’m 7 years from retirement, but why not enjoy it now?! Our plan is definitely to split time and move around. We’ve had a home base in Spain that we went to every summer for 9 years. Now Scotland. Next? Don’t know. Hello from CA. Great videos showcasing life outside of the US 4 women. Safety is so different. Japan would blow your mind. Once taught English in Japan & was amazed at night, one could venture out at midnight w/o worrying about crime. I have lived in Asia(Bali & Singapore) a long time ago when it was very easy affordable and could do all the visa runs. The locals were very friendly and we felt so good and hope to be back there some day, may be, as soon as I retire in a few weeks from now!😅❤
Thank you so much for the kind words-I appreciate it! I love hearing that you had a wonderful experience in Malaysia. Glad it also felt welcoming and peaceful for you and your sister-it really is a special place. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! Returning to Malaysia sounds like a great plan, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it just as much, if not more, the next time around. Wishing you all the best in this exciting new chapter of your life! 🎊❤️
Hey my husband wants us to retire to Thailand! He visited last month included Japan and China. He is in love with that culture and can’t wait for me to visit. I still want to check out areas in Europe and maybe Panama. Not comfortable in heat/humidity (although we live in ATL, but we from B-more). Thanks for your info.
Thanks for watching and sharing. That sounds exciting! Thailand is an incredible place to consider for retirement, and it’s great that your husband got to experience it firsthand. The culture, food, and slower pace of life really draw people in. I totally get wanting to explore Europe and Panama too-both have their own unique charm and appeal. However, the euro is a beast compared to the baht. As for the heat and humidity, it can take some getting used to, but if you’re managing Atlanta summers, you might adjust better than you think. Wishing you the best on your journey of exploring options-there’s so much to see and experience!
I miss you too ❤️🥰😭!! Y'all kick'n it and having a whole lot of good times but I'll be back. I always tell people about the wonderful community you’ve built for us in KL. Even though I’m away, you’re always in my heart. 💕
Great video! Yes it true you only need 5 days max for Bangkok IMO. However I absolutely LOVED Chiang Mai ❤️ just did Bali in August and man oh man… As much as I like DC Hopefully eventually I’m retiring in the SE Asia region. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Noooo, 5 days in Bangkok isn’t enough 🤣-save the 5 days for Chiang Mai unless you need some rest 😆. I’m glad you had a great time there, but it’s true-we each figure out what works best for us through our own experiences. That’s why I always encourage people to go and see for themselves. I love DC, but it was time to move on to the next chapter, and it’s been such an amazing journey. Wishing the same for you on your own path! 💕
Lord the humidity would kill me due to my menopausal hot flashes (it began when I was 39 and im 55 now), its mostly gone away but I can bet it'd come right back with that kind heat lol
I understand! A few women in the comments mentioned since being in hotter climates, they don’t necessarily experience more frequent hot flashes. The hormonal triggers for hot flashes are the same regardless of climate. Since yours are mostly gone away, you should be good. I've had no issues, I'm just hot because of the heat and humidity.
Thank you, Derricka for your loyal support and for the generous coffee donation-it truly means a lot to me! I’m grateful for the insights and experiences you’ve shared. I deeply appreciate you for being such a wonderful part of this journey! 🥰
OMG, your vlog showed up in my feed…I’ve finally found “my people”…Another former DMV resident with a like mindset! ❤ Living in Paris is one of my dreams as well, however the paperwork and the cost are a bit off putting unfortunately. I grew up in a military family so moving around is not stressful for me, full time travel is a goal of mine. This video was full of wonderful tips for retiring abroad, a couple of which are different from other videos I’ve seen. But one of the things that no one expands on is how they manage things back home. I’m retired with basically no family to depend on. Most issues I handle online. However, no permanent address abroad, at least not in the near future, how does one deal with the minutia that requires paperwork or personal attention in the United States? Or have you completely disconnected? I too always try to stay at least a month in a country and rent in an area near but not in the touristy area for convenience. My first non-job related trip to Asia is scheduled for May 2025. I plan to stay in South Korea but may do a couple of short side trips to other countries. Just working towards my goal of traveling full time in 2026 😊 Looking forward to seeing your adventures!
I’m so happy you found me! 🥰 The algorithm is definitely doing its thing, and it’s always a joy to connect with my DC peeps. Thank you so much for your kind generosity in buying me coffee-you truly made my day, and I deeply appreciate your support! Yes, Paris can be quite the challenge when it comes to housing, with all the requirements and bureaucracy😩. But at least we know this in advance. For managing mail or important documents, I highly recommend a virtual mailbox. They can scan your mail and even forward physical documents to you for a fee-very convenient for nomads. I use a virtual mailbox. I’m not completely disconnected from the U.S., as my mom still receives some of my mail, but I’ve set everything up electronically to get digital copies of important documents. Staying organized online has truly been a game-changer, and many nomads rely on similar systems. How exciting that you’re heading to South Korea in May 2025-it’ll be here before you know it! South Korea is also on my list, but I’m waiting for warmer weather and a bit more calm there. I know you’ll have an amazing time exploring and preparing for your full-time travel journey in 2026! All very best as you work towards your incredible goal. I’m glad you enjoyed my video, and I look forward to sharing more tips and adventures with you along the way! ❤️🎊
I just came across your video. Very good information. Thank you. I was really excited to hear that you know Yuna. She is a friend of my son Jarell Perry. He actually traveled to Malaysia to sing in wedding weekend a few years ago. Ask her about Jarell Perry. I look forward to watching your video with her.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! That’s so exciting to hear about your son’s connection with Yuna. He must be incredibly talented to have performed during her wedding weekend! I’ll definitely ask her about him. Thank you again for sharing, and I hope you enjoy the video!🥰
Congratulations!! 🎊🎈That's wonderful...one day I'm coming to join you. Now my question for YOU, how do you deal with the cold 🥶. I cannot and have not in two years burrrrrr.
Thank you for watching, and I’m so glad the video is helpful! I’m sharing my journey to provide you with some viable options to consider. Appreciate your support!
Great video and great spirit of a traveller who seeks to discover the world beyond the house sofa. One thing l learned from my travels around south east Asia is gratitude. I guess its in DNA of Buddhist culture. You don't say it but it show in your approach to things.
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right-Buddhist culture embodies gratitude in a subtle but powerful way. I touched on this when I mentioned how they are not confrontational and prioritize peace above all else. It’s something I’ve noticed too in my travels. Wishing you continued enriching journeys!❤️
Great video! I'm glad I crossed your path. I look forward to viewing your past and future videos. Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia are on my list of places to visit very soon.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad our paths crossed as well. I can’t wait for you to explore Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia-they’re all exciting destinations with so much to offer. I hope my videos help inspire and prepare you for your journey. ✈️🎊
Greetings, Claire! Thank you so much for your kind generosity and contribution ❤️. I’m thrilled to know you enjoyed the video, and your support means a lot. I’m delighted to have you join me on this journey. Wishing you a joyful holiday season! 🥰
Thank you!! 😊 Two years will be here before you know it. My plan took two years and it worked out perfectly to the letter. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Thank you for this! I have been so intrigued by southeast Asia and would love to start exploring with Vietnam. Your real wisdom is greatly appreciated.
You’re so welcome! Southeast Asia is such an incredible region, and starting with Vietnam is a fantastic choice-it’s vibrant, beautiful, and full of unique experiences. I’m so glad you found my insights helpful, and I hope they make your journey even more exciting. Wishing you amazing adventures ahead!
You're welcome and thank you for sharing. Glad I could offer insights. Take your time to explore options that align with your budget and lifestyle. There are an array of affordable and amazing places out there and these are a few great options.
I’m so glad you found my channel! Moving to Malaysia is such an exciting adventure-solo or not! It’s perfectly normal to feel cautiously excited, but I’m sure you’ll have an amazing experience. Wishing you all the best as you take this bold step in the new year! 🎊💕✈️
I think the main culture shock for foreigners in malaysia is the toilet hand bidet or bum gun which made the toilets wet. And the toilet paper is outside the toilet and sometimes none.
I was somewhat used to the toilet paper situation and the bum gun from my travels, but the way food is served was a big shock for me. There were times I’d be waiting 10 minutes while others already had their food-I’m ready to eat too!😩😋
How about the welcome a foreign traveler receives? Not the refugee stuff either, which you go ahead and get if you need to. But a real visa in a passport that says fine, yes, you may explore. Have you ever been told yes, you may visit a k-12 school? Look for things like seeing a foreign country, and yes, it was a nice place.
From my experience, people are warm and hospitable, especially if you show genuine interest in their culture. Southeast Asia, in particular, has been very welcoming in terms of both its people and visa policies. I have no desire ever to visit a K-12 school. Unless inquiring about your kids attending there's no need. Every destination has its unique vibe, and being open-minded and adaptable always helps make the experience memorable. Exploring new places and connecting with the local community enriches the journey!
I have lived outside the USA since 8/11/201. First in Costa Rica but to A-O Americans moved to my little town. Then I moved to Medellin, Colombia, I never saw a gringo in my neighborhood mall for my first five years. The secret is shy away from the gringo gulches that show up in many particular areas.
It sounds like you’ve had such an interesting journey from Costa Rica to Medellín. That’s great advice-immersing yourself in areas with a more authentic vibe makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your insight!
New subscriber. Love the video. I’m interested in knowing the different climates for different countries. I love the rain and I’m not too fond of sweating all day lol. Somewhere it feels like a crisp fall morning is where I’m interested
Thank you so much for subscribing, and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video🥰! For that fall morning vibe, consider exploring northern Europe, like the UK or Ireland, where it’s often cool and rainy. In Asia, places like northern Vietnam (Hanoi in autumn or winter) and I hear parts of Japan in spring and autumn have a similar feel.
You absolutely should visit! Now that you’re retired, you have the freedom to slow travel and truly savor each destination at your own pace. Each place offers a unique blend of beauty and adventure for you to enjoy.
This was a good video. I’m bases to Malaysia in a few weeks. I’ve been to a few cities that you’ve mentioned. 💙. I enjoyed Bali a lot. Thailand… so so. Vietnam. Nope.
Hi Vee! Thank you so much for your support-I’m glad you enjoyed the video. We share a lovely mutual friend 🥰, and Malaysia can’t wait to welcome you! While Bali isn’t quite my vibe, I enjoyed connecting with the locals there. I love Bangkok and Vietnam 💕. The world is such a big place, and it’s amazing that we all get to experience it in our own unique way. I’ve subscribed to your channel and look forward to the discussions. I hope you enjoy Malaysia as much as I do!
I'm decades away from retirement, but my parents recently returned to their home country in the Caribbean. That's my goal when I retire is their country or end up in SEA: Malaysia or Thailand. Been to both and enjoyed each. I think it may take time adjusting to the call to prayer in Malaysia. I booked a ticket to Asia with no research and my first stop was KL. I was surprised at hearing the prayer, but I knew what it was from the first time I heard it booming across the city in the early hours. This may surprise people if they're not used to it/unaware.
Thanks for watching and sharing your insights. That’s an exciting retirement goal! Returning to your parents’ home country sounds deeply meaningful, and Southeast Asia offers a vibrant and unique lifestyles. Both Malaysia and Thailand have so much to offer-it’s great that you’ve already experienced them and are considering them as potential retirement spots. I can see how the call to prayer in Malaysia might catch someone off guard if they’re not familiar with it. It’s a prominent part of daily life here. While it might take some getting used to, it can also become a comforting reminder of the culture and rhythms of life here. I quickly got used to it, and I find it soothing. These days, I barely notice it unless I’m actively listening. You’ll typically hear it around the city, especially if you’re near a mosque, but the farther you are from the city center, the less likely it is to be noticeable. It’s fascinating how travel opens our eyes to the beauty and diversity of different traditions and customs. Living in a new place comes with plenty of adjustments, but as long as you stay open-minded and flexible, it can turn into an exciting and rewarding learning experience.
I am spending a year on sabbatical (just left Western Europe ) and next I’m going to Central America. This fallI’ll be country shopping for a place to live in 2026.
Congratulations on your sabbatical! 🎊 Sounds like some wonderful places and a fantastic experience.I wonder how many people truly go back after taking a sabbatical. Life has been changed forever.
Thank you ❤️! Freedom is such a personal and powerful concept-I’m glad it resonates with you. Being in a place where you can live peacefully, authentically, and with ease makes all the difference!🎊
Congratulations 🎉! I loved my time in Mexico and feel the same way-who knows where I’ll end up. I’m going with the flow, enjoying the journey, and letting life unfold as it will.
Thank you for watching and sharing! Happy you enjoyed the video. If you're thinking about relocating to KL make sure you watch my latest video on KL Housing: The Harsh Reality 😬.
I enjoy your videos sm. I have attention problems, lol and I be curled up like a snake with my eyes glued on the screen. I think it's the peaceful tone of your voice. I enjoyed the brief comparison with Malaysia and Vietnam.
Hey Friend!! Thank you so much for your loyal support-it’s always wonderful to hear from you! 🥰 I truly appreciate your kind words about my voice being soothing. Both of them hold a special place in my heart for different reasons, and I’m glad I could express that in a way that resonates. I hope you’re doing well! 💕
@@QueenofDC Ah, it costs nothing to me 🥰❤️ Yes, very soothing voice like ASMR level soothing. I'm doing well, thanks and I hope your day has been the same too. Bless you 🙂↕️✨✨
When I arrived in Malaysia, I was shocked to see a so beautiful country, then I wonder why nobody is talking about Malaysia. Tthis country is definitely underrated
Many people simply don’t know much about Malaysia or haven’t heard about it. I first discovered it through my love for Yuna. Even back in DC, I never met anyone from Malaysia, and the Malaysian community there wasn’t very large. Now, with my platform, I know I’ve introduced Malaysia to so many in my community and beyond, and it’s exciting to see more people talking about it. Technology has truly been a wonderful tool for spreading awareness.❤️
Thank you for watching and sharing! Malaysia is definitely humid-it can be intense at times 😆. That said, it’s not as bad/extreme as Cambodia or Vietnam. Outside of monsoon season, though, it’s bad. I don't leave the house until after 3pm, so it's manageable 😩.
Thanks, I am in Puerto Rico and I go out early morning or evenings in the summer. The weather is great now breezy well it's an island so it's always breezy nice inside hot outside lol. I am on disability because of my eyesight so I appreciate what you said about the sidewalks in Asia they are horrible here too but I have a carrier for my food on wheels so I have it out in front to warn me which helps. Still deciding what to do I have free Healthcare here because it pays me $120 each month plus free massages, reflexology, chiropractor everything dental, eye care, travel ect. Plus I get food stamps here $180, and my rent for 3 bd 1 ba was $300 now $400 but it's going up in Jan. $500 which is still good. I am a few minutes away from several beaches, walk to everything I need or I have Amazon which I love. Electric $35, water $28, wifi $300 free phone and phone service. Never mind it would be stupid to leave, plus you just cross the street traffic stops for everyone here it's a good life.
What’s the biggest question or concern you have about retiring or living abroad? Are you just starting to plan your move, or are you already living your dream abroad? I’d love to hear where you are in your journey!

@@Jpoteete How can I reach this adviser of yours? because I'm seeking for a more effective investment approach on my savings
‘’Annette Christine Conte’’ is the licensed advisor I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
Absolutely agree
Really someone I know wants to move there...can u get SS and your retirement there?

Thank you so much for watching and sharing how much you enjoy the channel-it truly means a lot to hear that from viewers. Welcome, and stay tuned for more! I really appreciate your support.🥰
I love your video. I am also looking for that sense of peace. So very important. Thank you for sharing. Just subscribed.
Thank you so much for subscribing and for your kind words! Finding that sense of peace is so important, and I’m glad the video resonated with you. Wishing you all the best on your journey to finding your slice of peace ❤️.
I just came back from a trip. Singapore 3 days. All of Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur,Melaka, the Highlands, Penang). Our tour guide was from Penang and took us to all the good food and insider spots. Everyone Everywhere was celebrating Deepavali. So amazing!
What a fantastic trip! Exploring Singapore and Malaysia together is an exciting adventure. The unique vibes of Kuala Lumpur and the charm of Penang are quite memorable. Having a local guide from Penang is definitely a game-changer-insider spots and authentic food make all the difference! My friend who lives there hooked me up when I visited too. The Deepavali celebrations are so vibrant and full of festive energy-the decorations are absolutely stunning. I’m so glad you had an amazing experience!
Thank you for this video. I hope life keeps being as beautiful as your smile. Take care of yourself.
Thank you for such a kind comment! 🥰I’m happy you enjoyed the video. Wishing you all the best-take care of yourself too!
This sister can sing. I can listen to you talk all day. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I am also 57 and retired abroad 3 years ago to the day.
😂🤣😂You just tickled me!! Thank you for your kind words and support-you’re very welcome! Congratulations on your anniversary and your new home abroad🎊! I hope it’s been as wonderful as my own experience. My two-year anniversary of living abroad is coming up in December. Time feels like it’s just passing-not too fast or slow-because I’ve embraced a relaxed, easygoing lifestyle. But when you stop and count the years, it’s like, wow, that flew by! That’s why I always encourage everyone to take the leap as early as they can.❤
Living in Umbria Italy , 6 mos now. Ur so right‼️can’t wait to watch ur other videos. Inspiring
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience! I’ve been to Italy but haven’t had the chance to visit Umbria. How is it living there? I hope you’re having a wonderful and enriching time there. I truly appreciate your support and so glad you’re enjoying the videos 🥰.
There’s so much beauty and culture in that region-I’m sure you’ll find a place that feels right for this next chapter. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and share your journey. Wishing you the best as you explore retirement options!💕
@@QueenofDC And it's so I misleading for the public watching RUclips. Alas.....
I would never be able to make it with the heat and humidity and wouldn't want to live confined to air conditioning 24/7.
😂🤣We come out after 3pm 🕒 LOL! But I feel you.
Excellent video. I sent this one to my friends back home in the states. I moved to Vietnam this year, and I have zero regrets. Right now I am in Kuala Lumpur waiting on my Business visa to be processed in VN. So far I am enjoying KL. Keep creating this type of content, people back home need to know that it is ok to leave America.
Thank you so much for your support and for sharing my videos! Congratulations on your move to Vietnam 🎊-once your friends visit, they’ll want to move too! 😆 I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your time in KL. Absolutely, I’m sharing this journey to show there are better options out there. I truly appreciate your support and wish you prosperity in your business and all the best in your new home!
Just found your channel...im also a new older woman from the usa learning how to solo travel in asia...😊❤look forward to learning how to meet local people and how to travel locally😊
Thank you for watching and happy you discovered my channel. Welcome to the exciting world of solo travel in Asia-it’s such a rewarding experience. I’m friendly but with boundaries 😆. I enjoy exploring the city and chatting with people, which often leads to new and exciting experiences. I'll be sharing more! 🥰
She explained travel very well. I have been to many of the places she spoke about and she is spot on. Very good advice!
Thank you for watching and sharing your testimony. I’m glad you found the advice spot on-it’s always my goal to share helpful and accurate tips. Appreciate your insights and happy travels to you!
Hi, I can relate to most of the things you say. I am from Europe and been to KL and Bangkok a lot and still do. Its the pease of mind and the people that keeps me coming back over and over again. I feel like a fish in the water in SA. Its also quite convenient and more bang for your buck. I am retired and of and on go to Thailand or Malaysia. Thanks for your content.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I completely understand what you mean-it’s that sense of peace and the warmth of the people that makes places like KL and Bangkok so special. I love how Southeast Asia offers a balance of convenience, affordability, and cultural richness. It’s easy to see why you keep coming back! Retirement sounds like the perfect time to enjoy the flexibility of traveling between Thailand and Malaysia. Definitely a value! I’m glad you’re enjoying my content, and I appreciate you watching! 💕✈️
I’m like you, I ❤ Bangkok. So much to see. The food, sounds, sweetness of the Thai people, it’s great!
Yes!! I couldn't understand where the 2 day folks were coming from at all 😆. Always a great time and good eats in Bangkok 🎊.
This is so helpful. I’m contemplating Asia or Africa for fall 2025. I’ll stay 3 months though. Glad I found your channel.
I’m so glad this video is helpful ❤️. Deciding where to go is such an exciting part of the journey, and either option will be amazing adventure. I’m so grateful to be where I am today. It’s been a wonderful journey, and every day I wake up, I feel so thankful-sometimes I still have to pinch myself to believe I’m living here.
I love your vibe! I’m happy to have come across your page this morning. Peace and blessings, sister!
Thank you so much! Welcome and I’m glad you found my channel 🥰. Wishing you peace and Blessings as well! Please keep in touch.
Awesome content. Keep up the amazing work 👍
Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I truly appreciate it and will keep sharing so stay tuned for more!🥰
Great information!!! I loved watching this!!!
Thank you for much for watching and happy you enjoyed the video!! 🥰🎊✈️ I've adjusted well 💕.
Hi Mme. Nomad😊! Thank you for Informing Americans first time travelers about international etiquette! I've been on the EU road since 2009 and with much thought, detours back and fourth dealing with U.S.life, I'm Still focused and with Intension I Still plan to evolve further into my journey to South France and Portugal next! Bon Voyage Madame!🎉
Greetings! Thank you for sharing your journey and for the kind words-I’m happy to hear you’ve been exploring the EU since 2009. Your dedication to traveling and evolving with intention is inspiring. South France and Portugal are both stunning destinations rich with culture, beauty, and amazing experiences waiting to unfold. Wishing you safe travels and a continued journey filled with growth and discovery. 🥰❤️!
I love Bangkok. I am a city girl also. I left Bangkok, went to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, then came back to Bangkok again. I couldn't get enough of Bangkok 😅
Yes, Bangkok is that Chic 😂🤣. Never a dull moment and so much to see, eat, and do. I love all the parks and diversity. ❤️
What's up sis, I am thinking about Bali, Thailand or Costa Rica. Shout out for you for developing a method to retire and live life on your terms.
Hey Friend 👋🏽what's happening!! Great to hear from you and come on to Thailand 🇹🇭. You won't be disappointed and will probably never return like most 😂. Thank you for your kind support. It was the right time, and I’m truly living a life of peace and ease. Hope you and your family are doing well!
I'm in CR; is not inexpensive.
Hi Queen, they bring the food out the way you described. BUT, it's meant to be SHARED not to only be eaten by one person while the other diners watch and wait.
Greetings! Yes that's their way so I'll just patiently wait on my food. Usually, when dining with others, we’re ordering for our own tastes and not sharing.
I prefer to keep my distance from other Americans too. So grateful to hear about your experiences.
This made me laugh 😆, I'm not alone! I’ve met some amazing friends along the way but you feel me. Thank you so much for your kind support!
Hi, thanks for sharing. I visited Phuket 2 years ago with plans to experience Bangkok, but unfortunately only experience Phuket. I plan to return soon. Would love to meet you on my next trip.
Greetings! Thank you for watching! Bangkok is such an exciting city with so much to offer-I’m sure you’ll love it when you visit. Hopefully, we’re both there at the same time-it would be wonderful to meet you. Wishing you a Happy New Year and safe travels! 🥰
I have subscribed, liked, and gained value from this video. You are doing exactly what I wan to do one day. I am an avid traveler and travel business owner, but I love learning from people like yourself who are more advanced than me. Thanks so much for this very honest video. I have been to Bangkok, but I have not been to Malaysia, Vietnam, or Cambodia, so they are on my list. I really want to come to Malaysia now that I have watched your video.
Thank you so much for subscribing, liking, and sharing your kind words! It means a lot to know that my video resonated with you. It sounds like you’re also living an exciting journey, and I’m glad I could add value to it. Malaysia is truly a gem, and I think you’ll enjoy exploring its beauty and culture. Vietnam and Cambodia are also amazing -each with its own unique charm. Wishing you all the best as you continue your travels and grow your business! Let me know when you make it to Malaysia or Vietnam-I would love to hear about your experience 🎊✈️💕.
@QueenofDC thanks for responding. I will keep you posted 📫
Next? Don’t know. I see us just moving between places, including our home in California. I spent 57 years in one place. My kids live all over. Now it’s my time to live all over!
Hey Friend!! 👋🏽 What a beautiful plan you’ve set in motion! I love how you’re already enjoying your retirement vision-why wait, right? Scotland sounds dreamy, and having a home base in Spain is such a gift. Your approach to splitting time and moving around resonates with me so much. After 57 years in one place, it’s definitely your time to explore and live everywhere. Wishing you the best on this exciting journey-and maybe our paths will cross somewhere along the way! 😊
Love Malaysia, especially Sarawak, but the depositing a large chunk of money into a foreign bank isn't appealing. This is my main concern. You are so an inspiration! Go Girl!Good points about heat sensitivity/hot flashes. Acupuncture really helped me, together with cooling foods. Nice you don't have to be on guard, like in the US!
Thank you for tuning in and for your support! Safety here feels very different, though I always stay mindful. I haven’t been to Japan yet, but I had a similar experience in Singapore-it’s so clean and safe. Yes, the financial requirements are significant, and that’s definitely a valid concern. The peace and ease here are undeniable and have become a way of life for me 💕. I’m a big fan of acupuncture as well-it really works for me.
@@QueenofDC Hello from CA. Tokyo is my favorite city in the world. You would make a fortune with your background: politeness & etiquette rules! Liked it 4 the no arguing, no drama, let's move on and find a solution. Never apologized so much in my life! Interesting comment about mobility & walking the streets, especially in Bali Indonesia & Vietnam(motorcycle cultures) & other Southeast Asian countries. Lived in Singapore when Lee Kwan Ye was president & trust me, you will encounter unfriendly people. Malaysians are an open & friendly group. Like your visiting & staying in different countries, esp Romania. Keep the videos coming!
@@lizcarlyle2477Thank you!! Delighted you enjoy the videos. Listen, I struggle walking in those Bali and Viet streets 🤣😂. Hanoi old town almost made me leave Vietnam but after a few tense days I got bold but kept praying crossing the street LOL! I'm looking forward to visiting Tokyo, many love it. Appreciate the love all the way from CA!!🥰
Thx for a great video. I love the content but also your fun presentation. Feeling light. Feeling free. I spent 45 years raising my kids . Now it's my time to design my life.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and feel the vibes. Appreciate you sharing your journey-you’ve given so much, and now it’s your time to design the life you’ve always dreamed of. Wishing you all the joy and freedom in this exciting new chapter!🥰
Such an informative video … Thank you!
I’m in the Philippines for all of December and will be in Thailand all of January. Loving it. While I have my “permanent” address in the states at a relative’s home, like you, I’m still exploring the world and contemplating where I might choose to set up. So many wonderful people and places all around the globe!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words! Where in the Philippines are you staying? It’s on my list, but I’m still deciding between where to visit, Cebu or Boracay or another place. It sounds like you’re having an amazing adventure, and I love that you’re embracing the freedom to explore while figuring out where to settle. We can have many homes around the world, and I love how my perspective evolves with every new discovery and experience. I absolutely love Thailand, so I’m sure you’re going to have a good time!
Don't think you'll like the food in the Pi. I find it mostly disgusting and need to search out imported. Most of the country has bad infrastructure.
I left Brooklyn in 2020 for South America (Guyana), and albeit it's not my dream destination, it's really peaceful and quiet where I live, and I'm grateful and appreciative to the ancestors for their guidance.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’ve found a peaceful and grounding place in Guyana. It’s beautiful how you acknowledge and honor the ancestors for their guidance in your journey-what a powerful way to embrace gratitude and connection. Wishing you continued peace and fulfillment where you are!
@QueenofDC thank you much 🤗.
It would be so interesting to see your videos about living in Guyana.
@@dovygoodguy1296, I haven't done any. I'm a bit camera shy and have no real desire to put my life out there like that. People tend to be mean and like to focus on irrelevant things, so maybe later on I may get up the nerve, but I'm too at peace to bother for now.
@deeJT0205 It would be so interesting to learn about living as a retiree in Guyana. I lived in Brooklyn myself for 35 years and we returned back to my native Western Canada for retirement.
Thanks for your inspiring video. I'm from Singapore, and I studied in the USA in the mid-80s. I think I've come to appreciate what we have in Asia after my time in the USA. BTW, we have 'Karens' too, mainly expatriate wives who feel entitled because they drive big SUVs. Fortunately, they stay in expat enclaves that are too expensive for locals.
Thanks for your kind words-I’m so happy you enjoyed the video! I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I enjoyed my time in Singapore. It’s fascinating how experiences in different regions can really make you appreciate what you have at home.
They need to stay in their lil enclave. I haven’t dealt with one in two years, and honestly, there’s no reason for them to say anything to me-they better keep it that way!
I really enjoyed this content. I have to work a few more years, but then I’m looking into slow travel abroad full time. I thought it was interesting that changing where you stay when you were visiting changed your perspective on the place entirely.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Slow travel is such a wonderful way to explore the world, and I’m excited for you as you plan for it. Changing where I stayed made a big difference-it felt more like home, and it gave me a deeper connection, cultural experiences, and a better feel for the area. Wishing you all the best as you prepare for your new journey!
I need to find a cooler climate to retire to, but I love the approach you are advising. You have such a beautiful vibe 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I understand, finding a cooler climate to retire to is ideal, and there are so many beautiful options out there even in the countries mentioned. It will be fun exploring to figure out the best fit ✈️🥰. Appreciate your support and sharing!
Omg I love everything about ur vibe. I’m looking forward to travelling in retirement and u are an inspiration ❤

I retired in Cozumel, Mexico. I spent 2 months this year in Vietnam and am going back in February. I could live in Da Nang. I ❤️ Vietnam. Going to KL for the first time in 2025 and looking forward to it.
Da Nang was even more amazing before Covid
Congratulations on your retirement in Mexico 🎊! I loved my time there, and Vietnam is an absolute gem. Da Nang is my peaceful retreat by the beach, and KL has captured my heart. I’m excited for you to explore the city and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
@QueenofDC Da Nang was really amazing before Covid...now too many tourists....
@QueenofDC I live in Jomtien Beach Thailand...this the cheapest easiest place with the best cuisine, the best street food....I have big beautiful furnished sea view condo that costs less than to kennel your chihuahua anywhere in the US....the Idiocracy is no place to live now....
That’s wonderful to hear you’re enjoying life in Jomtien! I visited in June and completely agree-you can get incredible value for your money there. I loved my time, especially the delicious food and fresh fruit. Honestly, with everything you’ve discovered for a better life, it’s hard to imagine ever going back!
What got me is what you said my new job is when I get back to the US. I have my plans in place already. Thank you for your valuable insights! Fellow DMV!
Greetings, my fellow DMV’r 🥰! I’m so happy my words resonated with you. It’s fantastic that you already have your plans in place-that’s truly empowering, and I ❤️ that feeling! You’re very welcome, and I appreciate your kind support. Wishing you all the best as you move forward 🎊!

You are the best!
Thank you for your kind support and lovely compliment 🥰!! Stay tuned!
Wonderful content!!! I was in Malaysia on a training from Nigeria for just a week in 2013 with my younger sister. I tell you, it felt like home, it was so peaceful!
I simply love you and miss you here in KL
I miss you too ❤️🥰😭!! Y'all kick'n it and having a whole lot of good times but I'll be back. I always tell people about the wonderful community you’ve built for us in KL. Even though I’m away, you’re always in my heart. 💕
Great video! Yes it true you only need 5 days max for Bangkok IMO. However I absolutely LOVED Chiang Mai ❤️ just did Bali in August and man oh man…
As much as I like DC Hopefully eventually I’m retiring in the SE Asia region.
Can’t listen to people who don’t have passports and who don’t believe in traveling.

Love your channel Shawn!!!
I ust started the renewal process for Paris. I love it here!
Congratulations!! 🎊🎈That's wonderful...one day I'm coming to join you. Now my question for YOU, how do you deal with the cold 🥶. I cannot and have not in two years burrrrrr.
How cold does it get in Paris and for how many months out the year. What is housing like..costs?
Thank you so much for this video. You gave me so much to look at and consider about places to consider. The MOST important info. This was soooo good!,
Thank you for watching, and I’m so glad the video is helpful!
Yes, we had a great time in Chiang Mai!! I miss it so much!

There were times I’d be waiting 10 minutes while others already had their food-I’m ready to eat too!😩😋
The food thing was what i felt in France (all but their pastries which are top tier). Big thing for me too!
Yes, you definitely have to know where to eat or you'll be eating un jambon beurre all the time 😂😩.
Thank you for sharing so much valuable information. This was so helpful! Great video!!!😊
Hey Kwame!! Always great to hear from you and happy to know the video is helpful 🙌🏽. Hope all is well!
I just retired May 2024..Id love to visit some of those places
You absolutely should visit! Now that you’re retired, you have the freedom to slow travel and truly savor each destination at your own pace. Each place offers a unique blend of beauty and adventure for you to enjoy.
Great information 👍 You're awesome, thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome!! Thank you for your support and I'm happy the information is helpful 🥰.
❤️your concept of freedom😊
Thank you ❤️! Freedom is such a personal and powerful concept-I’m glad it resonates with you. Being in a place where you can live peacefully, authentically, and with ease makes all the difference!🎊
Living in Mexico currently, but looking forward to traveling more and-who knows where I’ll end up 💃🥳
Congratulations 🎉! I loved my time in Mexico and feel the same way-who knows where I’ll end up. I’m going with the flow, enjoying the journey, and letting life unfold as it will.
Thank you for this. Loved it! Have been contemplating relocating to somewhere more affordable to live and am considering Kuala Lumpur as one.
Bless you 🙂↕️✨✨
Beautiful video! ❤
Thank you, Sherry!! I hope you're well 🥰. Appreciate you tuning in!
Nice advice!
Thank you for watching! I’m so glad the video resonated with you.🥰
When I arrived in Malaysia, I was shocked to see a so beautiful country, then I wonder why nobody is talking about Malaysia.
@@QueenofDC I can't wait to go back to Malaysia 😁
Thank you, I am interested in moving to another country I hear Malaysia was very humid nice to hear it's not bad.
@@marieramirez1564 Yes, stay!! 🥰 Sounds like a sweet set up and life to enjoy.
