There's a lot to love about what season 5 has brought forward. We're starting to see the result of 343's new leadership. Cross core helmets alone is huge, and deserves recognition. 343 has started adding more weapon variants to the non starter UNSC weapons like the Bulldog and Sniper, leaving room for the possibility of the updated high def versions of the legacy weapons coming to Infinite. The core aesthetic of the Flood in season 5 is very respectful to their original design language. There's a real shot for 343 to turn the game around.
Admittedly I'm more concerned about the artistic direction of the game, the original games, and even the remasters are near perfection from a artistic standpoint, but that shouldn't be at the expense of the quality of the game and the quantity of content. Fortunately even prior to season 5, 343 was already taking massive strides in terms of content, like new maps, playlists etc. Being a Halo fan seems like Stockholm Syndrome at times, but I genuinely think the game is entering a new era. Season 5s a good step in the right direction but they absolutely do not deserve praise for cross core helmets when we have known they couldve released all of cross core or at least the more important parts altogether for a while now. I think praising them for cross core helmets is just telling them they can keep drip feeding cross core to us until we finally have full cross core.

One of the problems with live service is that over the time of the live service the artstyle is thrown out for more bright and colorful eye candy that people would want to buy to stand out.
Its like with call of duty. MW22 started out as a realistic mil sim and slowly but surely you start to get nikki manja and snoop dog on the warzone with laser weapons.

@@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778hmmm, that's true, look at tf2, once had a cartoony 1968 artstyle with all its cosmetics, and now that's been thrown out the window, but it is what it is I suppose.

Even then, we don't know the specific reasoning for why it didn't happen sooner. For all we know it could have been a direct result of the prior lackluster management. It could have been done from the start, which would be the better outcome, but it really does come down to the types of people in leadership positions at a studio.

How many times are we going to go down this road though, seriously. I'm pretty sure the amount of people who have said "maybe this is where things turn around" is on par with the amount of spartans that have been bucketed by Halo 2 jackal snipers. 343i has proven at every given opportunity that they are merely doing the bare minimum to not lose the IP completely. People say Microsoft should step in but who the hell do you think made the work culture that promotes this sort of dev cycle? They are stringing all of you along with the hope you might get a new Bungie era Halo one day. One day it will be better, one day we'll get a game with everything that a gave from 2007 had at launch. Wake the hell up already and leave these toxic parasites and go find greener pastures. It's sad to watch the copium happen over and over again and it's not healthy for your own wellbeing.

I've said since the beginning: all you have to do is look at Halo 5. It was an inferior product to Infinite in a lot of ways and was initially received much worse, yet they still continued to support and add stuff to that game for years, and it continued to have an active community despite being exclusive to the XB1. There was absolutely ZERO chance they were going to "abandon" Halo Infinite or that the game would "die" like our current outrage culture predicted / wanted. That's why I was never worried or became a doomer about it, the game will continue to get better and better as the years pass. Was it a disappointment at release? To some. Was it missing a lot of core features? Certainly. Did it take over the gaming world? No, but who fucking cares. As long as the game gets new content and has a community large enough to sustain short matchmaking times it really doesn't matter.

No, it definitively can NOT be "saved."
It will improve in quality for those of us still playing it. The game fucking died. It flopped. It lost. It was dead on arrival.
That damage is done, is not reversible, and is not going to change. The sooner you types accept that, like those fans that actually pushed 343 to improve and change instead of swallowing all their bullshit and clapping a "#weback" on their posts for a whole fucking summer of deceptive marketing did, the sooner we can all continue to actually improve this franchise.
This tone-deaf shit about "saving" the game is bullshit. It's OVER.
      It's BEEN over.
      Jesus FUCK

    • @davemccombs
      @davemccombs 10 месяцев назад

Battlefront 2 didn't have a comback. None of these games had a comeback. They amounted to *much less* than they would, could, and should have been at launch.
Gen Z is literally conditioned to think that slap-dash and haphazard removals of predatory slot machine mechanics and the return of 5% of the playerbase is a game being "saved."
No. That is abject fucking disaster, from top to bottom. Nobody came back to that game en masse. You don't get second chances to make first impressions.
Halo is dead until and unless we get several years of good-faith actions, PR, and another title that launches 8x more feature complete and polished than the previous several Halo titles a few years after the sour taste Halo left in everyone's mouths has gone away, it'll stay dead.
      The damage was done.
The outook is not good, just because they let you swap helmets, and added a few basic playlists that were in the goddamn game 20 years ago.@@john.michael01

It is too late unless they deliver a decent story expansion. The past decade has been ripe dogwater because the original executive management at 343i were more interested in personal glory, name branding, and making a cash-cow live service than a video game. In my opinion, the books and comics of the past decade should have been games, and vice versa. The comic how Buck became a Spartan would have been a phenomenal storyline for a hypothetical ODST 2. I'm glad the original executives have been given the boot.
I could go on in that regard, but I think the point is served. Sure compartively speaking season 5 is a significant improvement, but I'd like to point out how low the bar is if we're praising 343i for introducing basic customization features and game modes which have been standard across most the franchise. Take it from a marketing student, Season 5 is still mostly a shop and battlepass update, I'll give them the additions to forge, but that's mostly it.

I mean Forge AI for many people is "the big feature". For many this has been something we have been dreaming about since forge came out in Halo 3. I think you have to give them a lot of credit they went ahead and did that while also improving many other aspects of the game. It is late, but you know we are here now and I think if they keep up with the 3 month schedule they will have big spikes in player counts. The last HCS world championship actually had more viewers than any other Infinite esport event so far, so the interest is definitely there.

The big feature that only had less than 1% of people caring about or using yesterday lol.
The big feature was the Bandit Evo and the final inclusion of a Ranked Slayer playlist with Halo settings. This is why Ranked Slayer and Arena had concurrent player counts reaching ~45,000 alone, out of the ~60,000 players. With the rest scattered between other playlists, menu's, and "still in their 25 social playlist requirement before playing ranked".
FYI these aren't made up metrics. This is pulled directly from the public API. The most played playlists by a hefty margin in Ranked Arena and Ranked Slayer, with the exception being new accounts or returning accounts that didn't play 25 matches of social.

      @Syco198 10 месяцев назад

@@anonymous7564 I don't think it makes sense to argue what "the big feature" is truly. The halo community is pretty diverse and sure a part cares about ranked more than anything else, but others not so much. And the forge community per se is not the biggest, but the people profiting off of it are many. Just look at all the forge maps that are integrated now. You can be sure that many people will try out the new Firefight Playlist when it drops. In addition to that sure there are firefight maps to be played already, but we will get much more in the next weeks and month and by that time it will be something that could pull more numbers. Ranked changes just drop, but with a feature like forge AI you need some time.

I was waiting for this video, because I've notoriously shat all over this game in the comments since its inception. That being said: I kinda think it is too little, too late. Let me explain with a laundry list of problems, but first, I'll give flowers where they are due.
FIrst off, map selection. It's vastly improved. Variety has skyrocketed, and that makes the replayability that much more intriguing. Sure, it feels like a lot of the maps were community made and 343 couldn't be bothered, but with the new forge tools, it's hardly noticeable. Besides, HALO 5 was sort of the testing grounds for community made maps, so forgers were ready the instant it FINALLY dropped in Infinite. Still, wish THERE WERENT SO MANY MAPS WITH FKN HOLES IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM, but hey. Variety's better. Baby steps.
Secondly, customization is instantly better with the ability to swap helmets on cores. I started the day with an Anubis helmet on the Chimera core, and man... The Anubis helmet just looks too small on the MK7, but on the Chimera it looks like a little ninja. The game let me use the all white color with teal highlights normally reserved for MK7 eartlier in the day, but after I rebooted the game it was locked again. Sucks, as the visor-matched Chimera armor pieces on the all white body looked very Storm Shawdow-y. Hopefully they'll get that cleaned up next, as that'd go miles in my opinion. WIsh Id taken some screenshots. Just the helmet availability across all cores has me checking to see if anyone's come up with some cool designs for the armor, instead of the same ol' predictable intros/outros. Alright, that's kinda where I gotta stop the niceties, as there's some glaring problems that I believe will be the downfall of Infinite.
    Okay, the bad:
    - - Matchmaking. I see a ton of HALO apologists hemming and hawing about how this is the greatest update ever for Infinite, but you have to remind yourself: The bar really isn't that high. In almost every game I play, someone drops out. Sometimes two. Many times, I get stuck in matches trying to carry the most basic noobs while getting absolutely steamrolled by 4 friends. My first 3 games today, I was absolutely destroyed. Not for lack of trying, but when you have 2-3 players constantly looking for you because your teammates are picking their noses, it just isn't very fun. Is it the low player count? I doubt it. I'd gladly wait a little longer for more balanced matches, because this system is absolutely ass.
    - - Weapon pool- Everything is a sniper. The amount of long range weapons in this game is out of control. It's just too much to have a tactical, fun match because you're constantly taking damage before you can even get to a 1v1.
    - The plasma pistol is almost useless, as its main strength was taken out of the game. How many times have you been in a BTB and can't find someone to take down the Wasp or slow down a rampaging Wraith? I guess what I'm getting at with all of this is that there simply isn't any balance in the weapon pool.
    - The slow hammer and "hammer Vs swords" encounters are just wonky. The range is sketchy and ridiculous, as you're wondering why it works once in awhile, but there's no tactile satisfaction to getting a perfect hammer or sword kill. a lot of that I would attribute to my number one problem with this game, since Day One:
    - - Player collision. Missed melees. Missed hammers. Missed swords lunges. This was never a thing in HALO, until now. You can do a perfect tango to line up a sword swipe on someone, and they'll just run right through you. You can get someone down to one shot, elbow THROUGH THEIR SKULL, and suddenly you're back-smacked. I refuse to play Infection, and I used to LOVE Infection. Look, I hit 152 in HALO 5. I'm not exactly terrible. I'm not great, but I know what works. The consistency and lack of satisfaction on the melee part of the game probably explains why everyone is hiding across the map with a sniper in the first place. I absolutely HATEHATEHATE this part of the game, as it was one of the core tenets of what made the original HALOs so much fun. Feeling that *THWOMP* in your controller to let you know you hit someone just felt right. Not anymore. Not even close. Did I mention I hate the slow hammer? Grifball is gonna suuuuuck.
Vehicles- Shoulda kept it simple. It's too difficult to combat them without taking collective casualties on your team. One dude with rockets still isn't enough. Ever thought you'd hear that in a HALO game?
Overall, yeah. It's getting better. I still dabble for a few matches before shoddy matchmaking, falling through map holes, and missed melees make me throw in the towel. But the bar is still low. SUPER low. We're how far into this, and we're juuuust getting Firefight? I may be a jaded old timer, but you can't deny the old Sarah Palin quote: If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig".
Great vid, Ecks. Keep em comin'.

About the plasma pistol and your problem with banshees/wasp.
Bro, it’s easier than ever to take down those two vehicles, they are made of paper, almost half of the weapons in the game can take them down: the shock rifle can EMP them, the disruptor can EMP them, the sniper rifle takes them down in 3-4 shots, the hydra exist, the rocket Launcher, yeah, you have many weapons at your disposal to take them down.
About matchmaking sometimes it’s just bad luck when you have bad teammates, mainly if you play solo, cause many many people tends to play with friends so they have more communication.
      I miss player collision too.

Halo Infinite is by far the most fun I’ve had playing a shooter recently with these past two seasons. Feels like practically new content and great forge maps added to playlists every week or two along with a number of events with cool unlocks. Forge firefight will absolutely be a game changer. It’s been steadily increasing population for a year or so now but it would be great to get a big lift in the player base so they can accomplish even more with the game.

Steam charts Halo infinite 6hrs ago was at 13,856 players.
I don't think it's too late for Halo Infinite. I never thought it was because it has potential to be one of the best Halo games ever.
For example if 343 add playable Elites right now, invasion would be the best gamemode EVER in the Halo franchise.
*[WHY]* --> Because with the added addition of Forgeable AI you can finally have a Covenant/Banish vs UNSC basically you can make a Halo version of Star Wars Battlefront in Halo. Heck machinima could make a comeback.
There's has been alot of people who argue against playable elites one of the dumbest arguments is, *"not that many people played as an Elite"*
*(1)* Obviously. Unlike Spartans Elite cosmetics back in Halo 3 wasn't that great, and customization wasn't fun for the Elites in Halo Reach unlike the Spartans.
*(2)* Both Halo 3 and Reach Elites had a bigger hit box because they were chunky, with Reach making it worse by making the Elite taller. So you became an easier target to hit.
*(3)* Most gamemodes in the OG days didn't allow you to play as an Elite and most people made maps in Forge designed for Spartan players ignoring the Elites.
On MCC people argued that invasion is the least played gamemode, which that is a lie because when I went on custom games 6months ago, the majority of gamemodes was for Halo Reach was Invasion. So why were dozens of players playing that?
Because it was modded and scripted recreating Halo 2 missions and what not.
Elites need to be added into Halo Infinite and playable.
So Halo infinite isn't dead, it has the best PVP gameplay in the franchise other than Halo 3.
I really wish they would add a few more vehicles *[ Mantis, Locust, Grunt Goblin, Vulture, Falcon, drivable Pelican & Phantom, cobra, another Banish vehicle that I forgot.]*
Weapons: *[ SMG, spike, plasma rifle, NEEDLER or Carbine, SAW, Flamethrower, cluster launcher from Halo Reach, Fuel Rod, pump shotgun, and more Forrunner weapons.]*
I don't mind the weapon variants Halo infinite has of already existing weapons, but I rather have weapons from the previous games added into Halo Infinite with vehicles meant for Heavy BTB added.

I hit onyx 2 months into the progression dropping. Their are already like 22 people who hit max on rank. It’s came out in June. So 2-6 months for people that play a lot and 7-12 for people who don’t play as much. If you get 2000 score a game it’s like 4800 matches. You can take your time or you can grind it’s totally up to the player. Btb also gives 1.8x more xp each match so your score gets multiplied. 16 playlists 50+ maps multiplayer is mad fun. My enthusiasm for Season 5 was ruined by no Firefight until later. I am sick of strict SBMM/EOMM in modern FPS games. Other than some achievements, especially campaign, and Max Rank, there isn't much left to do right now. Cross core is meaningless to me because I like sticking with the established aesthetic of each armor core. Any enthusiasm I would've had for Mark V was destroyed by it being a store exclusive on November 7th. I am also tired of the FOMO of Weekly Capstone rewards and stuff never being available like the Yoroi wrist from Season 1 and the rest of the Solarian Legend Weapon Coatings from Season 4. Custom Games and Forge haven't done very much for me, because I don't know anyone who plays Halo and I was waiting for AI in Forge before I tried to do something.
MCC is great, but I don't know anyone who plays Halo, making Coop and Custom Games useless to me. Competitive/Ranked appears to be dead, making some of the PvP Challenges useless. I have the last three Series left, plus the random rotation of stuff that is impossible to obtain, and eventually Max Rank, but other than PvE Challenges on an inconsistent basis, I am struggling to make progress.

The stupidity of saying something like "is it too late". By this logic, Halo should have ended in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016. No. The problem is Halo was never a social-casual game at it's popularity peaks. Halo's turning point will be adapting it's primary underlining focus back at it's core: Being a ranked matchmaking game. Getting to this point will take 343 some time, but it's so far been a journey with the data they need.
There's absolutely zero excuse for why no other "added playlist" had any increase in players, where the vast majority -- the overwhelming of returning players, only touched Ranked Arena and Ranked Slayer after their 25 games. The writing is on the wall: Halo will never, ever, be popularized as a non-competitive "social casual party game".
But it had always been popularized as a competitive ranked matchmaking game, all the way since 2004. Gatekeeping this for so long, and getting 343 to spend 2 years "delaying content" in order to get useless stuff in is literally crazy when only 1% of the population even touched it. I can't wait to hear "Look at all the amazing forge creations with AI" and them have less than 5,000 total downloads in their life, like the custom maps do. Because that's not a popular area.
*Is it "too late" for Halo Infinite?*
    - To be a "social casual party experience"? Yes, by about 20 years now.
    - To be a Ranked Matchmaking success and bring hundreds of thousands to millions to enjoy progression based on their skill? Not by a long shot.
There's a long way to go before Halo Infinite is on the track to success, but the first was getting that nonsense "out of the way" so the Halo Community full of gatekeepers and goal post shifters have nowhere to go with their goal post.
The next steps for 343 are to start focusing on the core experience (Ranked), rather than the "social" experience (Non-Halo, defined by CE - 3, gameplay).

I stopped playing originally because I fall into the category of people that likes the idea of halo more than playing it...I'm bad at shooters, and never had the time to invest in getting better at it. But I love Halo worldbuilding and the weapons/vehicles are cool even if I'm bad with them. So it was always a game to play with friends...until they got sick of it initially. Lately though it has just been something else to play and get back into to mix things up without having to spend money or anything. I've burned out on the FOMO aspect of most games at this point, so it's easier for me to enjoy these games without feeling compelled to earn all the stuff before it goes away. I still strongly dislike earn-it-or-miss-out systems in live services, but by now I just ignore them. That said, getting back into this game without many friends joining me is rough, so I don't know how long it'll last before I get tired of losing a lot.

Halo has always been sweaty but for me it's a good type of competitive. There is cheesy bs sometimes but losing a lot is at least due to a team not coordinating well, getting power weapons etc. The background strategy is so immense. You can pinpoint why you lost in Halo and slowly improve from it and that's why I like it. In COD for example it's just cheesy bullshit that you have no real control over and you have to use the meta.

Halo Infinite needs a true ongoing PvE experience to be relevant anymore. PvP doesn't interest as many players as it used to. So seeing PvP get expanded on again and again, with no emphasis whatsoever on PvE has been difficult.
However that's finally changing. Later this season we are getting Firefight as a Matchmaking experience. And hopefully we will see more PvE experiences appear in the future.
As far as how to actually get people to check Halo out again. An actual Campaign expansion is the best way to do that. Bundle it in with a big seasonal update to bring people into the game, they come to check out the campaign, decide to see how multiplayer is doing, and hopefully get hooked.

Halo infinite is a blast fam, i have over 8000 games played and I can tell you it’s changed drastically since day 1.
First year of the game was under old leadership. (Not as fun and not enough content, literally like 4 playlist at launch) Second year of the game it’s been under new leadership aka Pierre hintze the guy who fixed Mcc and is still played today 9 years after release. Halo infinite has over 50 maps in multiplayer 16 different playlists. Customs games custom browser forge campaign. New season dropped literally yesterday. Coming soon firefight and more maps modes playlists ect. If you haven’t played in a while it’s well worth it to check it out now.

The big draw of Halo has always been its single player, but 343 haven't lowered the price on the campaign ever, they're still charging full AAA price 2 years later. If you want more people to play your game don't give away an unfinished multiplayer mode for free and overcharge for the single player mode

I agree for most the multi player is what brings the most people in to Halo. However I agree that there is a contingent of us who are here for solo Halo, and Infinite was kinda mid in that regard. The open world was boring, and the story was overall pretty weak. But I love the lore and want more of it, and I want more Master Chief and Weapon. So I’ll be waiting until Halo 7 comes out patiently in the corner.

There’s a great game here. And if you ask me. The best modern shooter.
They gotta add a few more things. Like Playable elites and Griff Ball. Invasion And more legacy weapons. Like the Carbine, OG shotty, magnum.
Story prices could be a bit too pricey.
Flood AI would be a dream too.
Other than that it’s so close to being my dream Halo.
I mean AI in forge is just amazing.

Probably the smartest thing they've done is giving the community the tools to make good content. I really hope the next Halo game can launch like this, multiplayer wise. They'll gain back players for now at least, but having a bad launch and slim content spread out over two years certainly kneecapped the player base.

1:11 Wanted to toss my hat in the ring here. Funnily enough I really like the core system it gives them options to make really unique customization. A great example is rakshasa that core's armor looks incredible and has armor that only fits that core! None the less I definitely see the reasonable frustration here.

Honestly I don't think halo infinite is going to get players back in a big way. That ship has already sailed at this point. Halo isn't what it once was when bungie was making the halo games. 343i would have a shot of making infinite an actual good game if it didn't have the live service nor the higher ups or average consumers that don't understand what makes a good halo game on how to make the most money the logical way in a effective way.

I mean I’m glad we finally got cross core helmets but why are the bazillion helmets listen in one huge horizontally scrolling list? It makes it really hard to find certain helmets since they’re sorted by rarity not the core they belong too

  • @agamer1016
    @agamer1016 10 месяцев назад

This update has changed the game for me.
Cross core helmets, whilst being so small, has made customisation so much more personal. I am very happy to see cross core taking better steps.
Campaign AI and Firefight is a dream for me, all of my friends are PvE players, so I’ve been running Infinite solo at the best of times. They’re actually interested in returning after hearing about Firefight. All the other QoL changes are icing on the cake for me now.
There’s still work to be done, but seeing a player resurgence and consistent good updates is such a positive thing :)

Infinite has always had solid core gameplay mechanics even sense launch, there just wasnt enough to do with them, now there is. Infinite's forge is NUTS, by far the most powerful the series has ever seen and now with AI you can do stuff with it that before was only in the realm of mods, and its these tools in the hands of tyhe community have kept the game alive, and 343 knows this. There is a whole playlist of remade classic maps in sqaud battle, cuz they just play better than 343's maps, ESPCAILY with BTB, 343's BTB maps are really bad in terms of layout, in particular really hurting vehicle play. 343 making custom games give XP is also another move towards letting the community drive things, and I think thats best at this point. As for the mangler, halo is no stranger to OP weapons, the CE magnum, the battlerifle and sword in halo 2, the SAW in halo 4, and debatebly the BR in infinite, which is I think part of why they made the new DMR variant for ranked, the mangler isnt gonna ruin the game unless the spam it all over the map. Also the reason people lost thier shit over the challenges at launch was because they were the ONLY way to progress battle passes and some of them were way too fucking hard, but now that we have per match XP if we can get them to a similar level of the difficulty of the challegnes in MCC that would be ideal.
I dont think infinite is gonna be the giant Microsoft wants it to be, its too late for that, but I do think things are getting better and if 343 keeps the ball rolling infinite can have a healthly if nechie population among fans, like 10-20k players.

Ya know, I love to see a positive step with Halo. But I seriously think the praise is way too generous….Let’s be honest here.
They’ve added a few new maps. Fantastic, but nothing new and almost expected really in a Halo title.
Helmets are now “cross-core”. I’m glad to see that, but it really just solves 20% of a problem that they intentionally created by locking customization to these stupid fucking “cores” in the first place. Just let people equip armor as they wish. Especially when you’re charging as much money in the Shop for armor cosmetics as the full price tag some games. Making helmets “cross-core” is an artificial fix to an artificial problem they literally created to nickel and dime you.
Bandit Evo. Again, glad to see it, but all you’ve done is just re-release the weapon in the state that it should have released with.
Forge getting AI- now that is a genuine W all the way around. Nothing but praise there. That’s actual content, and an actual evolution of the game.
I’m going to go back to yelling at clouds now, but I don’t think 343i has made enough changes/fixes to warrant the revival parade it’s receiving now
This game STILL has abysmal network issues (desync), terrible connectivity issues to custom games, a completely busted Theater mode, and obnoxiously restrictive customization 2 years after release…When these issues start getting fixed, I’ll hop back on the hype train for halos future. But these issues are 10000% what is keeping the popularity of this game in the dirt.
