Two things: When you get the golden skull, if you drop it next to a shop keeper he will buy it from you (so you don't need to take it to the exit). Also you can use the golden skull on the altar and get something good out of it (but I won't say what). Loving your video, the game is a ton of fun :)

I first started watching you for the binding of Isaac, and I thought that was all I was ever going to do, but by now you're my favorite channel on RUclips, easily. Keep pumping out content, man.
Here's a trick for free items, go to very end platform of the shop, drop the item, then in the next platform (not inside the shop) place a bomb there. The shop keep will die, and you get free items.
I'm sure a thousand people have already said this, but it IS super important: you can get idols and damsels out the exit then still do other things (like pick up another item) before you leave yourself. In fact, if you drop a damsel in a place where they'll run by the exit when they begin running back and forth, they'll leave on their own.

Mr Lion; 1) If you bomb the very bottom of a snake pit you will ALWAYS find a mattock/pickaxe. 2) If you put a golden idol on an altar something very cool happens :) 3) You can sell an idol directly to a shop by dropping it inside the shop. Very useful.

It has become staple in most of his let's plays NL gets worse the longer he plays the game unless it's Isaac. And even then he's not guaranteed to always succeed.

This actually looks like a cool game, other than being SOMEWHAT of a roguelike and permadeath I see no similarities to Isaac, like at all. The gameplay is of an entirely different world, but it still looks like my type of game. I'm gonna have to try it out on my own channel, even though It's old. But hey NL you should try out, Postal Redux. I'm doing a series right now. It's a great game, isometric, twin stick shooter. Remake of the 1996 original, you might like it.

A few tips: 1) Bombs blow up 2 blocks and kill any enemies in 1 hit. You could've killed that giant spider through the wall easily. 2) You can pick up and carry the locked chests. 3) Ropes do damage when you throw them upwards. It can be used to kill bats/spiders that you otherwise can't hit.

I did! Imagine how shocked he would have been if we had told him too soon about how he would need to go through a very intricate process in order to reach a 5th pair of 4 levels to beat a true final boss that he has never heard about. Thank goodness that he was introduced to that reality in a very careful and slow process..
Now here's a let's play I been waiting for for like 1 day :-) Viewed your let's look at, downloaded the free PC version, broke a few controllers along the way. Now I can see someone else struggle. Great work NL
Random tips I hope will be read: You can walk into spikes, but if you fall on top of them you will die. When you enter a gun shop and the man sells a shotgun, you can pick it up and kill the shop owner with the gun, but the other shopmen will attack you on sight and camp at exits.

Bombs stick to webs, so you can kill big spiders by throwing your bombs up at their webs. If you hold an item while walking through an exit, you'll have it on the next floor. Stealing an item will make a shopkeeper try to kill you, and there will be one waiting at every exit after that floor.
Also, those orange sticky things can take you to an alternate level if you stay on them for a while. You can also dump a damsel into it and they'll still meet you at the regular exit.
Pro tip: The whip, when behind the back, is a little "taller" (or at least higher) within that tile than the whip is when extended forward, making it notably easier to damage ceiling creatures.
If you bomb out the bottom of a snake pit, there is ALWAYS a mattock. This is a pretty useful item, its like a weapon that can hit through blocks with limited hits.
"I hear rushing water" means that there is a giant piranha in the water on the ground. Also, shopkeepers get mad if their store is messed with in any fashion, even if not by you.

Thank god SOMEONE is doing/did a Spelunky playthrough for XBLA. I swear I thought the PC version was amazing but this game is way better than most Triple A titles.
Great first episode. Please don't pay too much attention to the various pedantic viewers you have accrued, the silent majority of us greatly enjoy learning with you.
After playing all the way through, don't stop, this game has a lot of replay value because of the items and variations in play styles (You can be murderous, a thief, avoid everything, etc...)
There are 2 versions of the game, one that costs money and has additional content and better controls/physics and is generally more polished, and one that is in the style of an old 8bit game. The cartoony version is out on the Xbox and will be coming to the PC at some point (Not sure if it's out already)
An odd tip: spikes only kill you if you FALL onto them. If you occupy the same square as them either by walking sideways or hanging off of a nearby ledge they won't hurt you.

i think using shortcuts is important to learn the later levels. if u always restart at the mines you're gonna die way to often on the way to the ice caves to really get to practice those levels
Hey NL, you're making the game more difficult for yourself! Using shortcuts makes the game harder, not easier. If you think you're having trouble on the jungle now, doing the ice caves or temple from a shortcut is EXTREMELY difficult. Perhaps unintuitively, the game is easier to beat in a full playthrough from start to finish than if you start from a later level. The reason being you are able to accumulate crucial items, supplies, and health in the earlier levels that will help immensely later.
Blow up the ground at the bottom of snake pits to get a mattock. Also, you can drop the damsels off at the doors and they will go through by themselves. That allows you to grab another item to take with you.

Hay NL when you get the message "i hear snakes...i hate sankes!" it means there will be a snake pit. they have lots of treasure and if you bomb the bottem you will awlys get a mattic. (pick axe)
Also Northern, just a mini side note from some one else. You can walk on spikes as long as you walk from the side over them. I've noticed that some times treasure falls into spikes. Well, you can still get that treasure if you do what I mentioned :]
Also when you get a the dead are restless level, if you see a grave with a skeleton wearing a crown, blow up the area directly underneath it and it will open up a secret level!
On the sencond level of the mines always search all of it for a key which opens a locked chest that always gives you an item that makes a loud noise when next to the black market.

Here's a tip: If you whip open those pots and don't throw throw them, it'll kill any enemies that might be hiding in them before they can hurt you.

No, it's only for PC 1. And that's the 2008 version, not this newly released version.

The Udjat Eye chest only appears once per game, and always on level 1-2 to 1-4. Pick it up whenever you can, it has other uses.
