    With all the trail cams covering virually all of the island now, someone will connect with one. Keep up the good work.

    That video from the house is a lynx, I’ve trapped plenty of them and had lots on trail cams over the years. You can tell the way it walks it’s a lynx.

    Same here in Nova Scotia they think they spotted a cougar , we have run hounds every winter for rabbits going on 50 years or more , never ever saw any tracks that would suggest cougars ate here , hounds have run bobcats many times.

      they have found proof in NB and NS with confirmed hair snag samples from 20 different rubbing posts.

    Very informational. I would also like to mention that here in Missouri surprisingly back in the 90s my dad told me a story about how he was hunting for Boar at night and could hear and caught a glimpse of a mountain lion only with a 243. it’s most likely dead by now, but hopefully the genes were passed on There’s definitely been a couple of sightings over the years recently but none of them but no one has been as close as my dad to one. we also confirmed it had a den in my grandpas shed

    Should be interesting to see if you can capture the cougars on film Charlie. We saw a massive one on my 40th birthday (all jokes aside), and of coarse the camera was not rolling. It was tan in colour. Have not seen one or tracks since. Do you think we are going to have another odd spring here, where the sap is running very early?

    • @NLGhostWolf
      @NLGhostWolf  14 дней назад +1

      Oh now that is a very interesting question and to be truly honest. I'm not sure... The only thing I'm sure of is that the last three springs have been anything but normal. The time where we could do things by calendar weeks I think has passed... I could tell you years ago where and when you needed to be on certain rivers for the best fishing and now, the old ways/timing has been hit and miss.... We are living in interesting times indeed.

    • @northerngirlhobbies
      @northerngirlhobbies 14 дней назад

      💯 here’s another question? Is there any harm in tapping the trees now, in case of early sap?

    • @NLGhostWolf
      @NLGhostWolf  13 дней назад +1

      Well historically in March we would get plus daytime temps and minus nighttime temps and that's when we would tap the trees. Now I'm not sure if sap starts moving every time the temps are like that or if photosynthesis (Amount of daylight) plays a role in the moving of the sap? I remember older folks being concerned over the years when we will have a big prolonged wild in the middle of winter that the trees would start to bud and the frost would come back. Great question, I will have to research this as we are entering strange times when the once hardened calendar rules seem to be all over the place now.

    • @northerngirlhobbies
      @northerngirlhobbies 13 дней назад

      @NLGhostWolf I'll check today and see if our haskap plants are budding. I certainly hope not. If they are, I'll be tapping the maples.

    Me and me buddy saw what we thought was a large black cat while we were riding ATV's one day. It was on the road a fair distance in front of us . We were both baffled as to what it was because it was like nothing we had ever seen before. We gave chase .... we were both on 500cc ATV's ...... we couldn't hold a candle to the speed it was running. I've never seen anything run so fast in my life. It made it's way off the road and into the woods. We never stood a chance of catching up with it. That was three or four years ago and the episode has not left my mind. Still have no idea what it was and we still question each other about it. From what we both saw of it we both thought we had seen a black panther .... !!!!!! It was an awesome experience - what ever it was ! Hodges Hills area between G Falls -windsor and Badger.

    • @shawjt82
      @shawjt82 13 дней назад

      That sounds an awful lot like a Fisher. I live on the island now, but grew up in Ontario and we had them there. They look like a cross between a badger and a cat or weasel, but all black, and they have hooked claws that look too big for their feet. They're hyper aggressive and will hunt animals bigger than themselves. Real nasty if you startle or corner them

      Haha, I don't know if we'll be that lucky in my lifetime, but I truly believe the evidence is going to come, in the form of HD video and pictures as technology advances and we catch up. I believe it won't be an old hunter/trapper that gets it, but a Millennial or GenZ will have the tech and know how to get the most out of it... I went from a S3 phone to a iPhone 14 and still don't know how to use its functions the way I should. So if by some miracle I capture the needed footage, it will be totally by fluke...

    True Charlie , it’s only a matter of time .i have spoken to family members who have seen the cougar years ago . They have been here all along . Have been in the outdoors my whole life and have only seen a couple of lynx . These big cats are just as elusive, and our woods very dense , making very hard to get close , unless they want you too . Have you come across any sign on your guide trips ?

I spoke to one fella, from Main, at the Irving in Rocky harbour shortly after! He got one pic of the ass end of it as it was going into the bush! I also reported it to wild life and they told me they’re have had few sightings around the same area!
