I’m sitting here yelling at the screen “Don’t do that!”; but then I remember what it’s like to play one of the top stratego players. The only thing I didn’t like was the bold assumption that his piece in the corner wasn’t a colonel. He moved it straight away, and it was very, very unlikely he’d just run his captain by a lesser piece, basically giving you a piece for free. Up ‘till then, you had a fighting chance.
I figured the piece was from the corner was a "bad bluff" that he was going to sell as the colonel... and thought it would probably end up being a miner that would take a shot for my flag when given the opportunity. I went for it in the moment because it gave me the opportunity to fork pieces and thought that would be better than just having it revealed as a bluff at a later time when I wouldn't be able to capture it. It was pointed out after the game, though, that I just could've used my lieuts or serges instead since I knew the capt and that's a much safer way to find the colo.
I don't think the 200 move rule applies in tournaments, the auto draw just works when the clock runs out, so lucky you forgot that Colonel, or would have been long wait before losing anyway!
Didn't realize that! I think you're right... kinda makes sense though, since the 200 move rule is arbitrary for ranked and it makes sense to not apply for tournaments...
I like your commentary i think you have some of the best. I just still dont get stratego. I loved it since a kid but I wasnt good. It just seems like even if you are really good, its still a lot of guessing and luck! Which means even if you are highly rated you could still get unlucky. I just dont like leaving things up to chance

The only thing i dont get is why you hit at 12:10 with your Colonel into his Marshall. Your Colonel was covered by your Spy. He couldnt take you.
He thought it was a marshall bluff and figured he could get away from a trap situation. But yeah, it was too risky imo too.

I was very scared of his marshal/colo combo killing my majors if I didn't force a trade
