Just do a couple of little sketches to decide just what you want to include in your painting. If no sky is desired just place your most important focal-point such as your wave off center a bit and either above or below the center of the canvas. If you want a beach I imagine you'll want the wave just a bit high to leave space for the shallow water/wet sand on the lower part of the composition. Mostly remember to have fun and just experiment one way then another. Enjoy, Jim

The pencils are "Solid Graphite" Pencils or "Woodless Graphite" I use 6B or 8B for super dark, easy to smudge. Most art supply stores have them. Buy online at Mister Art or Blick Brand I like best is "Koh-I-Noor
