    Unfortunately my husband is one of those who won’t look at what’s going on in the world…. So I’ve taken it upon myself to prepare.. he thought I was crazy for working a garden, I did it anyway. He thought I was crazy for wanting chickens, I got them anyways. He didn’t really think I needed a pew pew, I got one anyways. He thinks food storage is a waste of money, and that the idea of grid down is absurd. I just keep prepping 😅. I’m a stay at home mom and I’ve used this time that God has given me to learn all that I can.. food preservation, identifying plants and their many uses… I do believe that the very best way we can prep though is to know God. He is the only one who can get us through the coming storm. God bless you all!

    Zucchini plants: I keep the stem covered with loam/ compost right up to the second set of leaves throughout their season. This helps a little to control vine borers.

    My bunny friend in my yard has her own Red Ripper Peas growing under my fruit trees but she put her nest of babies in my garden. I was watering and thought I saw rats running around, looked closer, and it`s a bunch of 5 inch long baby bunnies. They`re nibbling on my peas but I`m not gonna run them out. From only 4 or 5 Beit Alpha Cucumber vines I have to go pick about 15 cucumbers today. I have 6 fig trees, 4 dwarf dwarf mulberry, 2 pineapple guava and a 130 ft long blackberry patch. I planted one fig tree last year and the rest this year and they`re growing fast and I`m rooting more cuttings. I`m building my own solar power system for a window air conditioner and slowly building great soil and expanding my garden. I`m on a fixed income with no car so I have to do these things to be secure in Louisiana. Nobody is coming to save us.

      Imagine how great and how secure we would all be if everyone did see what was happening? We would all be working to become more self sufficient and could help one another along. I’m afraid it will end up being just a small portion of people who are living this lifestyle to prepare their families.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's falling on deaf ears. :( But at least I know I've tried. You’re welcome:) I would love to do more videos like this but recently feel a bit unsure of what type of content my subscribers want me to put out. Your comment is super helpful for me to see that people do want to hear this info:) I enjoy teaching people how to garden and everything else that we do here but I love sharing this type of info even more!
      Here is the recipe I use with avocado oil ( I ve also heard grapeseed oil is good too but never tried it)
      Mayo recipe
      1 whole egg
      ▢ ½ tbsp lemon juice
      ▢ 1 tsp white wine vinegar
      ▢ ¼ tsp Dijon mustard
      ▢ ¼ tsp sea salt
      ▢ 1 cup avocado oil
      Add the egg, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard, and salt to the jar that came with your immersion blender. Slowly pour the oil on top and let it settle for a minute.
      Place your stick blender in the jar and press it firmly to the bottom, making sure it's covering the egg yolk. Turn it on and keep it pressed against the bottom of the jar for at least 10 to 15 seconds, without moving it.
      Once the mayonnaise starts to emulsify and thicken, slowly move the stick blender up and down to fully combine the ingredients

    I appreciate the video!!
    one burning question I have had for a while is:
    it seems almost unreal that you alone do all of that gardening, all of the harvesting and all of the food preservation??
    I’m 61 -(you obviously are younger than me )-and I, too homeschooled my 6 kids …
    I am a gardener
    but right now it’s just me and my husband and -I have big gardens and I do believe in trying to build up food security as well- but I’m having a heck of a time just staying on top of it all- you’re in that incredible hot climate.
    do you have help other than your children?

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms  4 месяца назад

      Last year I did most of the work myself in regards to planting, harvesting and the kids helped a little with preserving. It was a very intense season and many days I found myself working from morning into the late hours of the night. This year I have been able to delegate a lot to my kiddos. They have been weeding, harvesting, and prepping the produce for me so that I can preserve it. I also have them take on quite a bit of the animal and household chores ( things like dusting, cleaning bathrooms etc). You are correct that it is a lot of work and I don’t think I could sustain doing it all myself again this season, but luckily the kiddos are a huge help this year!

    Does anyone know if legislation is being reviewed for the agreement re first in time, first in right water agreement that was established in 2016? It seems that these at risk farms/farmers may not have done their homework. Things were different in 2016, and post pandemic everyone has seen the benefit of growing your own food. I wonder if like all infrastructure this was an oversight for many and reworking the water rights agreement should have been a priority. I don’t agree that water use should be curtailed, but if potential water shortages are a known thing, the agreement should be fluid to account for growth of new farmers entering the arena.

    How do you get dill and cilantro to grow in the heat?

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms  4 месяца назад +3

      I never have a problem with dill in the heat, but cilantro always wants to go to seed. This is why I sowed them so heavily. When they come up, and are still fairly young, I’ll be able to harvest off of them before they have the chance to go to seed. Most likely they will not last long in our heat and will begin to flower, but my hope is to get enough off them for salsa this year:)

    I forgot to ask,
    What is your ratio , of dirt to manure to other amendments in your raised beds.
    We are about to start new raised beds closer to our house, hopefully this will help me with the bunnies, insects and and staying on top of fertilizing this next growing season.🤞🏻 🙏🏻

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms  4 месяца назад +2

      When I originally filled the raised beds I used Mel’s mix, which is 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 compost, 1/3 vermiculite. This is a typical mix for square foot gardening which is very dense growing. If you don’t need to really pack plants in your beds, you could get away with a less rich mixture, maybe using some topsoil mixed with compost to help decrease your cost.

    I understand why some areas might be restricting water use and access, especially as droughts come and last longer and reservoirs deplete, but it should start with no car washing, no lawn watering, no using water to create fake snow for skiing etc. - not the farmers who help feed us. Not sure whats up with Idaho but wondering if something is wrong with the water and they don’t want to tell anyone? Either that or they are resorting to their own “price gauging” and trying to force the farmers to pay more for water access?

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms  4 месяца назад +2

      I completely agree with you. I honestly believe that there are other motives besides water conservation behind their curtailment. Eliminating farmland and farmers decreases the food supply. Little by little these things are taking away our freedoms and making it easier for us to be controlled.
