Ang design ay kinuha mula sa Container of Hope by Ar. Benjamin Garcia Saxe sa Costa Rica. Ive been studying Convan Houses for Years na, and as an Architects i think the 600k budget is for the basic materials pa lang. Furnishing and finishing is not yet included. Also it will depend on what class the container is to be used. Plus the rentals for the equipment to be used as well. Insulation is also important, at yung pinaka effective na foam insulation may cost more din. Overall i was really hoping na mautilize ang sandamakmak na convan sa pinas para gawing bahay. Yes, it is a lot cheaper than the conventional houses and sana nga madagdagan pa ang researches and examples ng bahay na ito dito sa pinas. But people should be mindful of its limitations and the laws na nakapapaloob dito.
At around P90k per sqm, how is it cheaper than a brick and mortar structure? There is nothing elegant and economical with container. the more you insulate and install studs to anchor your fixtures, the lesser elbow space you have inside this sardine can.
@@lousebelmlea6889 i think you miscalculated it. A 20footer is 14.4 sq.m. Which means its costs at aroung 42kphp - 45kphp/ sq.m. (based on the 650k budget minimum). I could make a design which will cost around 27.5k-30k/sq.m. because i studied it and knew what has to be done in order to lessen the cost. As an architect by profession i could disagree with your modular approach, that is purely subjective. You are correct about the 20 footer floor area in sq m but even at P42k per sq m is still almost triple the cost of brick and mortar. If you are into environmental friendly stuff, your best bet is modular. Here in Canada as well as the US, you get huge government rebates and support if you choose modular or pre-fab as opposed to conventional brick and mortar as it energy efficient and uses less timber (less trees to cut). You have zero rebate on containers and would not likely get a building permit to put it up. In fact, the government discourages the use and re-use of containers unless you strip down the paint to get rid of lead (most used containers were made in the 70's) , and use expensive lead-free coating on metal under marine grade primer. Question: how long will your wires insulation last on extreme heat in between the metal shell and inside insulation? This is one of the main concerns of the safety regulators when considering granting you building and habitational permit. Armored wires can buy more time but not very long. Good luck.

I dont know about you but shipping container home’s been the most talked about home construction in almost any part of the world, specially in america, more specific in Detroit and chicago. Its also trending in every tiny home living channel and if you search on youtube about modern houses construction, they are always on the recommended lists.
I agree on that most talked about thing. We have had lots of discussions on the pros and cons but did not end up recommending to go ahead. I have about half a dozen people nearing retirement looking at options on whether build a house, buy condo, container, or just rent. Philippines had sentimental value and definitely enticing specially if you already have the space to build on. None walked away with good impressions of containers. The that stands out is retiring in Costa Rica or somewhere in South America. The 2nd best choice if the land already exist in the Philippines countryside is modular or prefab which you can have for around P250K to P350,000 for 2 to 3 times the space and faster to put up than container. Google prefab or modular Philippines. Equally on the 2nd option is nipa and bamboo structure which you can buy from Batangas, Bulacan and elsewhere for around P90k to P130,000 except that you have to improve on the thatch or nipa roof to make it last i.e. synthetic thatch instead of natural (which attracts vermins and bugs) which has the same looks but stronger, more environment friendly and safer i.e. non-combustible or flammable.
Plus you cant alter or expand i.e knock down walls on a container. You have to buy another container and connect the two which is burdensome and costly. Your options are limited.
container dwellings are good innovation- simple and durable. .aptly good in earthquake prone areas like the province of north cotabato and davao del sur. .it does not break nor topple down by high magnitude earthquakes. .there is only one flaw in construction- they put it on fix concrete cement post. .during high magnitude earthquakes isang shake lang tiyak mahulog ito sa kanyang foundation post tiyak tatagilid ang bahay. .the best way is maglatag ng concrete foundation na parang rice drier. .pag me lindol magslide lang ito to and fro. .
I really admire this idea. I myself is an avid fun of sustainable living and homestead. Filipinos used to have a mindset of conventional living. Hope this video set as an example to change our way of planning.
Being a,feel good hippy does not make anything better , its fairly quick to build . But by no means more cost effective . Or better . A house with concrete posts and hollow block can be built for less .and more sqaure meters .
@@stateofmind4341 yeah , his container is a fold out ,so both sides expand ,making it three times bigger . It's very convenient , it's already built . But it's very small . For the same money and more waiting time you can have twice the space . With other post and beam and hollow block or other methods. I'm want to use spc foam boards/ high strength wire cage . It's fast ,cheap , strong and insulated . This traditional built house for comparison to a shipping container ,it cost 600,000 peso ( $12,000 US ) ruclips.net/video/WwsDcue55gA/видео.html That house@12k is 1000sq feet A expandable container is 400 sq feet . Holy crap that's cheap!!! P600,000 = $11,428 USD unless I'm doing the conversion wrong. Even if that's only for the shell and no delivery, kitchen, appliances, or fixtures it's an inexpensive way to start. I love the aesthetics of it, too.
Maybe in usd its cheap. But for the low and middle class, a 600k house for that small size is a no win. It looks cool since its new here in the PH, but with the climate and storms here, i doubt if a container home can withstand on the test of time.
Not for Philippines , compare it to a two bedroom house , with the property it sits on included .built for 16.000 us dollar ,with hollow block and cement columns or a 100 sq meter , on going almost finished at 15.000 .
Matagal narin aq nagresearch about dito sa container home, proven na mas maganda talaga,,kaso wla akong contact kung saan ako makkakuha ng shipping container na mga bago at Hindi over use.
yup, correct.. since 2016 nagreresearch narin ako about dito.. walang supplier, walang makausap na architect or contractor na may idea about containers.. kung meron man, saglit lang yun company.. nagsasara din after ilan months.. wala sigurong market sa PH..
Wow!

As a structural engineer, I would recommend to the designers to be mindful of the cuts and openings made in containers. Containers were fabricated with metal walls which also serves as a structural member of it. Also, for 600k this is very costly.
600,000P (Pesos) Which in Canadian dollars is 15,550 Dollars Even less in USD This would be very cheap. Standards in Philippines Is low for building homes if at all. Shipping containers are made with metal framing alone to support its self and a added weight Otherwise you would not have doors with hinges mounted on the frame of the containner This is why you can stack conatinners 7 high on top of one another unloaded You would have spend more time into as a foreigner Being able to lease land to place a container on it Than worry about rigidity of it And If you ever get a chance to visit the Philippines Take time to find out about low quality concrete in homes vs earthquakes Or living on the 28th floor of a condo during the same event ...Yup i'll take the shipping containner
I never attempted to visit the Philippines because I am a Filipino, a registered engineer and also a contractor living in it for decades. If you ever get a chance to visit (much better to reside for you to know deeper) the Philippines take time to find out and internalize personally how far a 600,000pesos can go building a concrete house which can last up to 50yrs. I'm pretty sure you will never be disappointed.
I am living in La Union and am looking at building a container home sometime in the next 5 years. where can I find the necessary people with the necessary skills to ensure the correct integrity is maintained wrt structure, insulation etc without being totally ripped off (I am a foreigner). Any constructive input would be appreciated
@@Charlie033012 I have not been up to La union Mostly Manila and Tagaytay areas However Your going to want to find a area that the City or Brgy will let you build a shipping container home on the land You will need concrete post able to carry the weight of the home and more If your area ever had flooding in the past 20+ years look into what hight you need to be safe Look into a Ship port near your As it might be cheaper to buy the container at that area and have it trucked to your spot Than it would be from same Manila or other port of calls Also remember you want a sea worthy container rather than one that has been used many times and is worn out And could have been used to carry waste or bad chemcals which still might be present in the wood Also search the net for Conatiner homes in PH and contact people ask questions

Well I’ve seen lot of these abroad but not as a lifetime homes. Most of them use and build as a laid back houses and they need to transport freely, meaning if your area is not that accessible it is difficult to get this done. But overall this way more good as an alternative houses but i still choose to build conventional one. At least we have this here in Philippines already and we couldn’t wait to go further building these kind of container houses.

RIP nalang sa kanila at ewan ko kung nakita pa katawan. Pero nakita ko ang container parang tinapon ng 400 meters at yupi yupi.
Earthquake and storm free?
Baka po 'proof ang tinutukoy nyo hindi' free.

Pero dapat may aircon sila eh, kung wala kc para kang inihaw sa loob kung electricfan lang gamit mo.

Nope. Never popular in the USA nor Canada. We hate it here. It never really took off when conceptualized. Modulars are the name of the game and you also get huge government rebates and support.
Ive been doing my research about container homes, so far this is one of the comprehensive details.
Dream house ko to grabe!! Living big in a tiny house hehe 😍
container dwellings are good innovation- simple and durable. .aptly good in earthquake prone areas like the province of north cotabato and davao del sur. .it does not break nor topple down by high magnitude earthquakes. .there is only one flaw in construction- they put it on fix concrete cement post. .during high magnitude earthquakes isang shake lang tiyak mahulog ito sa kanyang foundation post tiyak tatagilid ang bahay. .the best way is maglatag ng concrete foundation na parang rice drier. .pag me lindol magslide lang ito to and fro.
@@boracay12 are you sure. Tom's and ruth container seems ok. He says no complaints 2 years later
This traditional built house for comparison to a shipping container ,it cost 600,000 peso ( $12,000 US )
ruclips.net/video/WwsDcue55gA/видео.html
That house@12k is 1000sq feet
A expandable container is 400 sq feet . That was the size of our living, dining area .
1000 sq # $12,000 is $12 per sq
400 sq@$12,000 is $30 per sq .
My point is it's not more cost effective ,it's worse . It's very quick , but your paying over twice per sq foot .

Holy crap that's cheap!!! P600,000 = $11,428 USD unless I'm doing the conversion wrong. Even if that's only for the shell and no delivery, kitchen, appliances, or fixtures it's an inexpensive way to start. I love the aesthetics of it, too.
Yes you get it right ma'am!
It is cheap if you earn dollars. Doing it without a contractor will make the price even lower.
Maybe in usd its cheap. But for the low and middle class, a 600k house for that small size is a no win. It looks cool since its new here in the PH, but with the climate and storms here, i doubt if a container home can withstand on the test of time.
Cheap only for your money
Not for Philippines , compare it to a two bedroom house , with the property it sits on included .built for 16.000 us dollar ,with hollow block and cement columns or a 100 sq meter , on going almost finished at 15.000 .
Same here. I am also VERY INTERESTED pero wla din ako kontak.
yup, correct.. since 2016 nagreresearch narin ako about dito.. walang supplier, walang makausap na architect or contractor na may idea about containers.. kung meron man, saglit lang yun company.. nagsasara din after ilan months.. wala sigurong market sa PH..
I always wanted this kind of house in my life😍😍😍
600k is cheap but you can buy assumed house for 300k in the province and use the other half for renovation...
Which Province you can afford a house to buy for 300k tell me because i need a house.
Wow!
. Im a licensed Architect and i've studied this for a project. I even lived in a container on a construction site.
Though the lifespan of the container is 50 years, there are studies that it emits chemicals. There are plastics inside the metal body. So lets be cautious and skeptical on using this. Further study is needed.
If they are really using lead for painting it well that's a big no no
True. Bakal po siya. So nalulusaw yan pag mainit
Karamihan ng simpleng bahay sa korea containers. Wala naman issue. Sobrang Strict ang korea sa health ng mga mamamayan.
container homes are also a trend in USA... maybe you just have to make sure to remove the led paint or any harmful chem
In australia very common na ito wala naman nagkakasaki.
eto yung lgi ko sinseaech sa youtube.
kc mas mganda tingnn tas eco friendly.

Very nice..
My only concern with using used shipping containers. We’ll never know if hazardous chemicals or radioactive materials have been stored in it.
Wala nmn.pintura lang.lilinisin lang and keeping it rust free
There is a number on the container that you can check online what kind of products it transports before so your aware exactly.

kahit sobrang daming container sa port natin or pwedeng bilin.. 1st problem, walang company yata dito sa PH ang nagrerestore ng container or alteas have all the requirements, permits etc neccesary needed to pass para magamit as residential .. very hazardous and poisonous kasi yung mga chemical na nakadikit sa containers specially yun mga nagamit sa shipping (magastos ang restoration nyan).. 2nd problem, kung magiimport ka from china or ready made na pang residential use sobrang mahal na nun, not practical na... 3rd problem, sa sobrang liit ng kalsada dito sa PH ang hirap maka pasok yung mga mobile crane.. ex. dito sa village namin sa QC, gusto namin ilagay sa backyard yan pero i think hindi kakayanin makapasok or ma lift ng crane.. even yun sa vacant lot namin sa tagaytay ganun din, tingin namin hindi din kakayanin.. 4th problem, wala masayadong contractor or architect ang nakakaalam sa mga ganyan dito sa PH.. marami ako friends or kakilala na engineer, archi, construction business.. pero lahat sila walang idea masyado sa container van housing.. sasabihin lang nila maganda yun and mura pero yung knowledge wala talaga... 5th, since interested ako before sa container van.. nag compute ako na for a 20ft simple design aabot kana ng P1Mil+.. 40ft nasa P2mil+ all in (decent design, interior/exterior furnitures) so hindi totoo makakamura ka.. maganda lang sya tignan kasi kaiba.. makakmura ka lang kung very basic design lang like for dorms, simple cottage, storage, mobile campsite, shelter for the poors..
